It makes sense though, the narrator is pretty creepy towards the waitress. Mind you, my interpretation of the song was that the waitress isn't his daughter, he sees her as a surrogate daughter because he failed as a father to his actual daughter, hence there's a parasocial relationship.

I've been listening to this track for 3 years now working as a waitress and it has always hit so close for me. +mike sullivan Yes indeed. Like ?Yesterday", where the twist is he is talking about his father and not a past girlfriend. However, I don't think this song has a twist. The waitress is NOT his daughter IMO, she merely reminds him of his daughter and how he should have been a better father. The waitress, in a way, is his only link to humanity and that is why he comes to see he everyday.

Aside from the fact that Slug has said she is his daughter; at the end when he's looking into the mirror and the reflection turns into the waitress it's heavily implied she's his daughter, she has same eye color, same hair color and her face appears right as he says daughter...

This video would benefit from some color grading in post. Jack the contrast, drop the blacks and maybe use different color pallets when the 2 main characters aren't on screen together, maybe a third when they are. Otherwise I'm really happy you decided to tackle this song as a school project :)

Did anyone else get this but, the waitress is the guys daughter. The waitress is mad at the dad bc he wasn't a good dad (as it says at the end). That is also why the daughter wants the dad out and why the dad keeps coming back...he wants to fix his relationship with his daughter.

The great thing about music is it's subjective; not everything is received the same by every audience member. Ha! The whole video is graded heavily, too much now that I look back at it. I chose a cold/blue palette for all scenes when the father is not in the same room as her. Around the waitress, its warm/orange. It shifts at 2:04. In terms of jacking the contrast and throwing away detail of the darks, I've found that to be a very amateurish look lately and I am not a fan of it anymore, personally. Although I will say the black point on this video doesn't look as dark as it was before uploading it.

I don't believe he would be smiling all the time though. i think you missed it there. I think he would be a dirty homeless man only wanting one thing. Just to see her and be in the same place as her.
