To the sociopath they understand what it means to threaten the livelihood of someone because they have the feeling themselves. What they don't connect as well with is the relation to other people. It's exactly the same way with Todd from breaking bad. He doesn't understand the repercussions of his actions through the relationship of others. Lizzie apologizes for pointing the gun at her, not about the dead person.
@cheggycchig
@cheggycchig Жыл бұрын
"Im sorry I pointed my gun at you. You just needed to wait." that right there gave me chills. She is literally incapable of realizing what she has done wrong. The fact that carol may be upset because she just killed her sister and was about to kill a helpess baby in order to turn them into feral corpses doesnt even seem to cross her mind. Nothing like that even seems to click in her head. She's upset she got caught and they got mad about it, not that she did it. The portrayal of total psychopathic mindset is so accurate here.

Right, remember earlier she didn’t even cry that her father died, she cared more about her favorite walker that died, that was signs that she was messed up in the head, but they just didn’t think she would go this far

She is not psychopathic, she is deranged. Major difference. Psychopaths aren't insane, they just don't have any empathy. Lizzie truly believes she was doing something good by killing her sister and letting her become immortal, and in her mind, she was protecting her sister by pointing the gun at Carol. She was driven insane by this world.

@Dr. xyz she would still have been prosecuted. You don’t get out of a crime by being insane, you just get sent to a secure mental facility. Which instead of a jail sentence you get put in custody of the facility. Meaning if your mental illness is not curable, you’re probably never leaving that facility.

I had my mom watch this episode and she was crying by the end. She doesn't even watch this show but she understood the emotions and turmoil the characters were going through. And when I mentioned that Carol had to see her own zombified daughter be put down, she wondered how she could have kept going. Carol is an amazing character and I love her transformation over the course of the series.

This is honestly the saddest episode of the walking dead. You can just see how much the apocalypse broke Lizzie. I believe she already had mental health problems before the apocalypse and maybe in therapy she learned to look at flowers when she becomes overwhelmed. Lizzie just couldn’t handle the way the world is and her subconscious is trying to forget about all the horrible things she’s seen and that she’s in denial about the walkers and that they’re not human. You can just see how ill she was. There’s obviously no therapists anymore in the world and she cannot get help. This is especially sad for carol, she lost Sophia and then Mika and had to kill a little girl who reminded her of Sophia. This episode left me in shock all night. I believe what carol did was the right thing and the only thing to do in that situation. Lizzies suffering needed to end. If carol didn’t do what she did she could’ve killed other group members and get herself killed in horrific ways by walkers or by other people. R.I.P Lizzie

This scene reminds me of "Of Mice & Men" Both Lizzie and Lenny are similar to each other. Lizzie didn't mean to kill Mika, same with Lenny didn't mean to kill Curley's wife. They both did not know better. Both Carol and George know that Lizzie and Lenny are too dangerous to be kept alive. Even Carol and George say almost the same things. "Look over their" and "look at the flowers Lizzie" I think it is really cool that they sort of put the Mice & Men theme into this episode.
@mgawsmestevan23
@mgawsmestevan23 9 жыл бұрын
Totally different actually. Lenny didn't mean to kill Curley's wife because he didn't know his own strength and she panicked and screamed which made him want to silence her (snap her neck), he still knew what he did was wrong and ran away to the meet up place where George told him to go. Lizzie intentionally stabbed her sister to bring her back as a walker, so yes she did mean to kill her sister and if Carol/Tyreese didn't come back when they did. Judith would have also been a victim. Not only that but moments before Carol shooting her, she felt literally no remorse for killing her sister. She actually thinks Carol is mad at her for pointing a gun at her, not for killing Mika while she was away. I get the theme is similar, but Lizzie was sort of deranged in a darker way than Lenny. In terms of, 'Of Mice and Men' I will agree that both George and Carol realize Lenny/Lizzie are both too far gone and need to basically be put down. Because they are too dangerous.

Considering there are no shrinks, nothing could be done. Remember after the charred walkers attack? Carol asks if Lizzie finally understands to which she responds "I know what I have to do now." That is where BOTH Carol and Tyreese misunderstood her statement. She displayed symptoms of being a borderline sociopath. Mutilating animals for fun, feeding the walkers, and playing around in Glen's blood. You have to remember (including her meltdown on Carol) that these all took place BEFORE her statement. The next day, she kills Mika. From what I gathered, in her mind, Lizzie believes that she did nothing wrong. Walkers are just different. She even believed she could hear them. She was a danger to the group. She tried to kill Judith TWICE. She was too far gone. I believe there should have been more screen time, but this was the best way for her to go. Quick and painless. But look at the emotional trauma their deaths have done to Carol. I don't get why everyone blames her honestly. She's been making all the difficult decisions while Rick played farmer. Karen & David were put down. They would have died. No one considered meds or tea at that time. As for Lizzie? No one else (Maybe Carl) would have done it.

Austin DuRose fun fact, when this situation happened in the comics, it was not with Lizzie and Mica, but siblings Ben and Billy, whom aren’t in the show. But when Ben killed Billy after a somewhat traumatic experience, while everyone was wondering what to do with him, Carl actually walked up to him, looked him in the eye, and shot him. I personally would’ve loved to see something like this unfold in the show, but this scene was still executed fantastically. I 100% agree with your statement.

This is a perfect example of how our morale's would come into play. Yes, shooting a child is wrong, they have a limited understanding of their actions or in Lizzie's case, a very distorted ideal of what is right and what is wrong. However a child or adult is very well just as dangerous in these types of situations. We automatically think we can control and help children better because they're still growing up, but foolish thinking in this scenario. Lizzie was beyond help. She had done so much in attempting to harm and ultimately kill others, HER SISTER AND AN INFANT. Murder to murder is not right, but how would you cope with this? Some people are simply unfit to survive on their own, it may not be the best choice to end their life by your terms, but that's what makes this show and the word apocalypse come alive. What other choice did Carol have? Send her away? Where she'll eventually GET EATEN anyway since she wants to be socializing with the zombies? I guarantee there'll be crazy people that would eat, rape, torture, and kill others if something like this if the world ended up like this. Cry? Or live?

Carol had the balls to do what no one else would do, even Rick who was too busy farming I love Rick btw but carol was spot on there. She was exiled from the group because of soft minded people like yourself. Anyone with a brain cell can see that if she didn’t do that so many more could’ve been dead. It’s like being given the chance to kill a baby hitler if time travel was invented, your doing a mentally challenging fucked up thing killing a baby, but you’d save so many lives including multiple other babies, so i would do that as would carol, whilst people like you point the finger like omg you killed a baby. This is a perfect scene with perfect acting that had the perfect build up throughout the entire season. It's just such a harsh reminder that, in this world, once something gets broken, there's no supplies left to fix it. You either plan ahead and prepare yourself, as Carol tried to get Lizzie to do, or you fall to insanity or death, leaving the world bereft of one more capable human being. Lizzie may have be a psychopath, but she was just a kid. And this is like the only show ever that could show her rise, her growing madness, her fall, and her completely tragic but absolutely NEEDED death, (so that she wouldn't suffer any more and cause more violence without knowing the difference), this way. Nothing else could show this much motherly love, horror, happiness, sadness, and finely written grimness as much as Walking Dead, the television series. Anyone who calls it a 'badly written show' with 'poor acting', watch Season 4 from beginning to this moment and tell me they didn't handle it as well as it could possibly have been handled.

I know a lot of people say Lizzie was sociopathic(in case it was caused by the apocalypse) or psychopathic (in which case she was born with Antisocial personality disorder) but personally i dont think its either of that. I think she had underlying sypmtoms of schizophrenia that truely developed in the apocalypse (trauma can cause the symptoms of an early mental illness to "speed up"). In her case we can see that it isnt her personality that made her do what she did but instead an extreme version of a mind trapped in a delusion (extreme beliefs that are set apart from reality). So in my opinion she had developing schizophrenia with the symptom of delusions starting surface due to trauma.

Yeah I was thinking similarly. She could have been both too though. ASPD with schizophrenia or psychosis. It's not abnormal to see comorbidities between ASPD and schizophrenia/psychosis. I'm not sure if the writers had any of this in mind when writing for these scenes though but I can clearly see both schizophrenia and ASPD symptoms in Lizzie. She has a lack of empathy, lack of remorse, impulsivity, disregard for right and wrong, unnecessary risk taking or dangerous behavior, hostility, significant irritability, agitation, violence, no regard for the safety of others and oneself, failure to consider negative consequences of behavior or learn from them, and serious violations of rules. Then she also has the magical thinking, delusions/delusional thinking, belief that an ordinary event has special and personal meaning, and persecutory delusion. I see more ASPD than schizophrenia or psychosis but again it could definitely be both. Regardless she was a very wounded and truamatized child that couldn't handle the stress like others like Mika could so she broke. It's really sad.

People...the whole idea is that Lizzie knew what she did. However, no one could get through ti her that her ideas were wrong. Carl tried, Tyreese somewhat tried, and Carol tried. However, Lizzie sunk deeper and deeper into insanity. I believe the death of her mother and father caused the majority of this. Things weren't too bad until she explained that she didn't mean to shoot Alisha in the head. She talked to walkers as well. Her killing Mika showed that she became too far gone. Nothing could be done. That's just my thought and no one has to agree.
@TheODLawson23
@TheODLawson23 10 жыл бұрын
Carl tried? No, he had no story to Lizzie's character at all, so it would have had little to no affect on him whatsoever. You believe the death of her mother...? Lizzie never mentioned her mother, but Mika did mention her mom. That makes you think that their mother was killed by a walker? Maybe they saw her turn and that fueled Lizzie's love of walkers and belief that they're still the people they used to be? Because she just couldn't deal with losing her mother? She talked to walkers? Just like at Hershel's farm, when they kept the walkers they were related to or knew well, in the barn. Mika kept insisting how different they were and the looks she kept giving her sister made me think there may have been problems before the ZA.
@austindurose4231
@austindurose4231 10 жыл бұрын
If you paid attention to the beginning of the season, Carl did exactly what Mika did. Told her that walkers just kill and they are NOT people. Lizzie countees by saying they're just different. Also, when she says she has seen them turn, she was referring to her mother. Hershel used to be just like her. However he came to see what really happened. Lizzie couldn't deal with it like Hershel and took an opposite turn. This downspiral is what lead her to death. Carol literally had NO choice. Abandon her, she'll die. Keep her, she can kill and "turn" anyone she wants. Carol is my favorite so of course I'll support her, but she made a decisiom that NO one could have made, including Rick.
@TheODLawson23
@TheODLawson23 10 жыл бұрын
Austin DuRose Why should I pay attention to...? I've already watched the first episode a million times. I knew there was the scene where she and Carl talked about the walkers and she told him they're not dead, just different, and he tried to set her straight, but clearly doesn't. I have to admit that Carl has no story to Lizzie's storyline. She was referring to her mother? There was no mention of her mother in the Lizzie scenes. She may be referring to people and children. It's just your imagine. Carol had no choice? Her decision was WRONG! It would be better if they abandon her, she would be alive or disappear somewhere. Is that the reason why I hate or criticize Carol? Yes, let me tell you everything: I do blame her for for not paying attention or listening to what Lizzie's family was telling her, she didn't realize how crazy Lizzie was even though we could all tell by their conversations, she left Lizzie with Mika, she did not doing anything when she witnessed first hand Lizzie's freak out over killing the female walker I think constant supervision would have been wise or at least a conversation something, the way she treated Mika and Lizzie over having to be there when their father died, how she lied to Lizzie about Sophia saying Sophia wouldn't hurt a fly (when she wanted rick to shoot the walkers) and she didn't want Lizzie to call "Mom" instead of "ma'ma". You'll support her? She's your favorite? Fuck Carol! She is a fucking asshole! I never forget what she done to my favorite Lizzie!

@austindurose4231 10 жыл бұрын
First, please calm down. Also even Melissa herself said Carol had been uneasy about Lizzie since Mika called her messed up. If Lizzie was left alone, she would die or kill people she found. Also if you heard, Carol thought things were set straight AFTER they ran from the charred walkers. She misunderstood Lizzie saying she knew what to do as that she got through to her. Everything was fine! The next day she killed Mika. Paying close attention to these details are important!
@TheODLawson23
@TheODLawson23 10 жыл бұрын
Austin DuRose Lizzie needed special help from Carol and the others, but they didn't. Melissa said Carol had been uneasy about Lizzie? There's not enough of her spending time with Lizzie. Carol had only been in 6 of 16 episodes that have aired, she's more like a guest star. Lizzie receiving most of her development off screen. It's difficult to diagnose Lizzie because the writers are lazy, and I have no faith in any research they would have done in attempting to understand a traumatized and mentally ill child. Kill people she found? No, she isn't an evil child. It seems to me she was/is an angel child. She killed Mika? It could have been an accident because it was not shown in a scene.

I really felt for Carol here. She viewed these girls like her own daughters. She had already lost Sophia in a way that made her feel like it was her fault (by getting separated from her and thus the child got bit), then this, failing (in her eyes) to protect Mika then having to put down (a mercy really for the kid and those around her in the long run) Lizi.

It's unclear if she really thought of the walkers as people. She was still fearful of them in some cases, such as when she and Judith almost got attacked at the beginning of the episode, or the hoard of burnt walkers that she fled and later helped shoot down. Maybe she subconsciously knew that they were dangerous but she wanted the principle of them not being a threat. Her twisted mind kept working around what her instincts told her. Kind of like the governer with his zombified daughter, she probably thought the walkers could be "trained" to get along with people, and only attacked when they weren't trained properly, or something. And she probably thought Mika could be trained as a walker, and still live a good life figuratively speaking. She just wanted everything to be okay.

Can y’all stop calling Lizzie a psychopath? Because she wasn’t. She was just a kid who went insane and was in denial due to the trauma the apocalypse caused her. She loved her sister and genuinely thought she’d come back, she didn’t kill her just for the heck of it. She (wrongfully, of course, but still) had empathy for the Walkers and truly believed they were capable of being good friends. A psychopath wouldn’t believe that. Psychopaths don’t feel empathy, which Lizzie clearly had. That’s what makes this scene even more chilling, imo.

Psychopaths are born that way and they have empathy but in a distorted way. They can love people but they don’t care if they die or get hurt because they don’t understand the impact of death. They don’t feel anxiety and fear, that’s why Lizzie sees walkers as friends. She relates to them because she thinks that, just like psychopaths, they are seen as dangerous by society but they’re misunderstood. That’s why she says they’re just different. And when she shows remorse it’s to appease people and not because she actually feels bad, like she does with carol in this scene.

When she told Carol she was about to kill Judith too, I knew what came next was completely justifiable. It’s sad she had this mindset, but she literally cannot see that she is doing anything wrong and thats dangerous, in our world and this one.

This was depressing to watch. It was sad to see a child with a fragile mental state lose their mind even further to the apocalyse happening around them, with no hope of saving her. By far one of the hardest-to-watch episodes of Walking Dead.

Lizzie easily would of become a psychotic killer and thinking walkers are friends and family. Easily could of become the most dangerous character in The Walking Dead if she was just sent away. Carol did the right thing

Lizzie doesn't recognise that what she's done is wrong. She's more sorry about pointing her gun at Carol than killing Mika - her own sister - in cold blood. It was there all along; Carol didn't have a choice, lest she or Tyrese or even Judith next fall victim. What makes it so poignant is that Lizzie, so bright and young, should fall so heavily victim to the apocalypse. Her slide into madness just made her death all the more moving.

Heartbreaking moment, but I understand why Carol (and Tyresse) had to put Lizzie to rest. Lizzie would've become a threat if she entered any community, due to her belief on walkers. Killing her own sister was the step that showed how far gone she was.

So if it was "teenage rebellion" it would be justified? She was a traumatized little girl. She mentally couldn't handle the constant killing going on around her and for anybody that would fuck with your brain but especially so for a child.

She probably had a undiagnosed mental disorder like schizophrenia that was just agitated by this apocalyptic world. She was a liability and as sad as it is, there is no room for liabilities and errors in this type of environment. She killed her own sister and tried to kill the baby, she doesn't have a grasp of what life is in this world and she had to go.

This is such a heartbreaking story arc. Lizzie didn't understand what she was doing ultimately when she killed Mika, because in her head, the end goal wasn't bad. When she realizes she's in trouble, she thinks it's not because she killed Mika, but because she pointed a gun at Carol. She ultimately dies thinking her only wrong doing was pointing a gun at a grown up, and not the fact she murdered someone, let alone another child.

yeah, i caught the reference too. but like you said, it had to be done. what else could they do? let her live, and its only a matter of time before she slits someone else's throat in the middle of the night. throw her in an asylum? that doesn't exist anymore. a hard choice, but the right one, for this situation

Whereas everyone claims they don’t feel sorry for this little broken child because of what she did before and everyone claims that they feel more sorry for carol. I have this strange breaking feeling that I’m the only one or at least a part of minority that feels and can somehow capture all the feelings lizzy had during this scene. The tragedy of this little girl is just unspeakable… she obviously developed a schizophrenia as a result of reaction to what the world has become (probably had genetical predisposition to have this kind of illness). She couldn’t bare the amount of fear and terror that world would give her and in order to cope with it, her mind must’ve developed a twisted view on the whole world. She would hear walkers talking nice things to her, feel their willingness to play with her, have fun and she would most importantly not perceive them as a threat, which would allow her to feel blissful in the world which could not be perceived as blissful by anyone else… she didn’t and was INCAPABLE of knowing what she did to her sister, because her mind created a twisted view of the world in which death did not mean death but a chance for reincarnation into one’s zombified immortal self, left to live or NOT-LIVE blissfully and happily forever. She would remain misunderstood and viewed as the one who never understood situation well, excluded psycho, but in reality, she just saw the world differently because of her illness. Raising her awareness of what the world really is as well as curing her schizophrenia WAS POSSIBLE, but carol felt totally incapable of doing it, because of lack of psychological and psychiatrical capabilities and knowledge even though she knew all along… Just imagine a blissful little child, really strong enough to live in the world and mature enough to see through the world of humans, but incapable of realizing the truth with regard to the world of zombies… she was really emotional and caring not to hurt anyone, but couldn’t execute her actions properly because she really saw, heard and viewed the world with all her senses totally DIFFERENTLY FROM OTHERS because of her fucking illness… this made me realize that everyone views the world differently and we may not even realize that this is the reason why wars conflicts and all the bad stuff happens… poor little Lizzy… I hope you eventually feel the bliss you sought the whole time in your life even through maniacal illusions, now that you sleep eternally…

This is honestly (for me) the best scene in the walking dead. Imagine being in Tyrese and carols place in the apocalypse. You have to put her down ;( it's so sad but it was the best choice they had no meds or therapy for that girl. She was to far gone. Loved the acting in this episode. It was so deep and emotional. Props to the girls who played lizzie and Mika. Omg.
