I'm a bit confused about the reasoning behind "comics are boring because you can tell the same story just through words". Does that means the same can be applied to paintings or any other piece of graphic media? Is a painting boring because you can describe it in its entirety with text? Anyway, great episode as always!
@nualln11 жыл бұрын
Its an order of operations thing. Do you first look at the panel and then read the text, or do you read the text and then look at the illustration? It's like subtitled movies. You end up staring at tiny text at the bottom of the screen and you miss half of the interesting visuals and expressions on people's faces. I don't have a problem with comic strips, but comic books are like torture to me.

the walking dead story about rick and shane and the whole love triangle was the best part , and the fact that he killed shane and then becomes what shane was to survive is awesome and maybe the 3 or 4 episodes centered on the govoner when he was surviven on his own until he went to the prison with the tank , other than that it's lost some steam

Gregg and Colin, my question is in reference to the film, The Final Cut with Robbin Williams. What do you think if your parents implanted a device into your head that records your every action in life and then used as a memorial at your funeral (granted someone goes through it all and selects pieces of memories for the rest to see)? Thanks and keep up the great vids!

I couldn't read comics as a kid. I only ever focused on the single frame. As ive gotten older my imagination has "improved". Now when i see a single frame in a comic or a "picture" i am able to see much more than just the one image in front of me. You flesh comics out yourself, if you arent imaginative comics arent for you.

I've only played the game and seen the first season of the show, but The Walking Dead is not "useless" or pointless, Colin. It's not about what happened, it's about the characters and their interactions with each other. That's where the real, human, emotional drama comes from.

Reading a book is an experience, you sit in a quiet space, open the book, teleport yourself to that universe, so everything becomes exciting, and I must say that while I like comics (I don't read many, though) but in NO way I find them more exciting than a good book, because there's this whole experience, this whole envolvement while reading a book, and I don't feel that with comics, it's not about images or text, it's hard to explain, only someone who likes reading can understand.

I tried getting into comics, but had a hard time investing time with them because I may forget to get the new issue and lose interest rather than reading a novel. I really enjoy the art in comics and because they get to continue lore I enjoyed as a kid (i.e. X-Men, Transformers) to new stuff like KOTOR. KOTOR was the last comic I still kind of follow. I wrote a fan book and writing a new novel and I enjoy reading something and using my imagination rather than a comic.
@soraFF21311 жыл бұрын
My question is, if we go through this whole ordeal in the show or comics of what happened and why, how would it benefit the characters in the long run? I dont see how. Finding out will add to the story, but i believe the Walking Dead is a character driven medium. If it wasnt, it would be excruciatingly boring. I like the consistent focus of survival, morals, and people's actions affecting others

@jkeely12311 жыл бұрын
Totally agree with Colin in regards to the "what happened?" aspect of The Walking Dead. The best post-apocalyptic stories deal with this question in clever ways. Just look at The Last Of Us. We're not sure EXACTLY how shit went down in the beginning, but twenty years on we see what has happened to civilisation, what remains of the government and how people carve out an existence in this world. In The Walking Dead, they just sit around arguing, crying and fending off zombies all day.

A) A picture is worth a thousand words Colin. Give the comic a shot. B) The story is about the survival, and the new story of humanity. It doesn't matter what happened, its seemingly never going away. And what it is is a parasite. We have no idea if there IS a governement at this point. There may be, but there may not be.

With regards to Comics V Novels I'm leaning towards Colin. I like comic books, but there's so many stories, so many issues and the cost is too high. I'd love a few novels a year that were the main continuity that I could really sink my teeth into.
