University dorm - 3am - my friends and I put this on after a night at the bars and all hell erupted in the room. The lights went out, things were thrown, drinks everywhere, people jumping around going wild, a broom ended up stuck handle first in the ceiling. I don't talk to any of those guys anymore, 12 years on I don't even know what they're all up to, but that memory and this song will stick with me forever because of those few minutes.

First time I heard this song, over 12 years ago, I though it was an energetic and furious song. Now after a recent break up and painful divorce, the lyrics makes soooooo much sense to me, that has been greatly helpful releasing my anger and make me through with a lot of sadness. Music masterpieces live longer thru ages, but some lyrics connect with real and common feelings about millions of people: pain, sadness, hopeless, inertial numbness, that songs like this are the most powerful tool to move on.

Nice try, but when "past decade" is used (properly), it refers to within the last ten years from that point. If you wish to refer to a specific decade you need to do that, i.e. 80s, 90, 00's. The 00s aren't any more "the past decade" than the 80s are. But yeah, great song.

Not too often this kind of energy and commitment make it to a recording, and it's what every band that has a heart tries for. Closest I have seen -- Afghan Whigs live "Debonair," -- on Conan O'Brien here on yew tewb. And also, Jawbox "Savory" on Letterman or Conan.

@seanoneil277 8 ай бұрын
@@robertmcmanus9185 Which one did you think had "strange" vocals? Each of those songs is on a very good album worth listening to. Probably the best album either band ever did. Jawbox, a band from my hometown after I'd left my hometown, never saw them live. J Robbins from Jawbox later had a band called Burning Airlines, poor choice of name as the band debuted right around the time the Twin Towers were hit by airliner. Afghan Whigs - OH origins, like Devo or Pere Ubu or The Amps / The Breeders. Dulli apparently fascinated by soul singers of the 60s and 70s, almost like a Hall & Oates gone rock. But less "Philly Soul" and more like what you hear on Debonair. One internet resource you can use to find new music -- these days it's really a CF with so many ads, but they have album and band reviews, and for each artist or band there is a tab called "Related" and one called "Similar Artist" or "Similar Album." The website is allmusic dot com. Back in the early-mid 00s I found quite a few interesting bands through those similar or related tab lists.

This morning I thought I'd play 'Bows & Arrows' in the car on the way to work. Track 2 (this) came on & I smiled, then laughed, then crashed the car. As I was dying, my last thought was: "That's quite possibly the best rock song since the Modern Lovers' Roadrunner." The more I think about it - in my dead state, of course - the more I agree with myself.
