My only comment: I come to sites like this for relief from politics of any stripe and world events. Feelings are running high today in the US and around the world, but it would be nice to keep a focus on the spectacular work this family and friends are doing here on the buildings and grounds, even if the non-LaLacelle comments are subtle. Hey guys, the lead-in with the drone approaching the chateau through the dense fog was great. It made the viewer feel the atmosphere and feel like a part of the site. But it also highlighted the moss growing on the small roofline over the dormer on the top window of the tower. You could have sprayed that when Terry painted the wood white, but you should put that on your long list of to-do's for the future. Keep the lead-in, but get rid of the moss. s Ash, your work on the walled garden is amazing. I have a long-range suggestion for the future. You should find someone to help you layout a computer grid of the garden identifying the plantings by name if they put the mouse on each planting area, and then add a cross-reference to an index showing the characteristics of the plant - such as varietal name, why that variety instead or another was chosen for this environment, time of blooming, color of the flowers, etc. Then you could take the software to someone who has a large-format color printer and print out a glass-covered display at the garden entrance for visitors - to answer their questions on what the heck is that rose and why did you choose it. Or, you could print a smaller handout which might be folded in a brochure to sell to visitors so they could carry it as they walk through the garden. Visitors always want to know what they are looking at and why it is there, and you can not afford to staff and train human guides.
@wendybacon90152 ай бұрын
To walk leisurely through your walled garden taking in all the splendor of sights and smells will without a doubt entice all ones senses with color, sound and fragrance. It is beautiful to see it unfolding after the original wall fell and Terry's heart broke into pieces. A garden only fitting to the splendor of the rooms you are recreating within the chateau itself.

I love your choice of plants. There are 2 plants I really want to recommend, if it's possible and suitable to your region, and if possible to get hold of in France. You will not be disappointed. The one is Day lilies "Hemerocallis". "All parts of the daylily are edible. The tender foliage can be eaten as a spring green. The buds and flowers can be eaten raw or in soups. The swollen portions of the root can be boiled and eaten. " We normally plant them not too far from Agapanthus. The original field plant has an orange flower. Beautiful with the purple of the Agapanthus. Then these days there are so many Colours of flowers, but I specifically thought of the deep yellow for your garden. They multiply and you can divide them after each season. They die down a bit, but not totally in winter, but their growth are vigorous in spring and they flower for months on end. Then the other one is a shrub, or rambler, that you can train as a hedge, or you can let it loosely fall over that gorgeous garden wall or you can trim it in a stiff square or rectangular bush of any height or shape. Thus looking informal or formal. It is called Plumbago "Auriculata". One get a light blue variety who's flowers shine like fairy lights in the dark. Or the dark blue/purple is also gorgeous. They grow fast and you can also divide them to make them more, just like the day lilies. Both need very little water and caring , are inexpensive and keep weeds away. It will look gorgeous with those formal "Yews"...spelling?....that can be planted in front of it. Just saying, worth a consideration. Best wishes with your beautiful garden.

I agree wholeheartedly with Shane keeping weeds to a minimum by having lots of plants. I’ve attempted to do that in both the gardens I have put together with my generous husband.
