Kudo's to you Judy Norton, you do a wonderful job keeping the memories of the Walton's alive. You were alway's my favorite, not to take away from the other actor's, they were excellent as well. Your a beautiful woman, still watch the reruns every day at 12 noon. Grew up watching that show, they had the family I wish I had. Being an only child I was very lonely. At the age of 66 now, will keep watching till the end of time.

The Jon Walmsley story was so relatable as all of us have been in that situation no matter what line of work we were in and age. Ralph's honesty of how he responded to that situation was also understandable. It's such a good lesson in life of how we can be our own worst enemy with how we react to situations. We live and we learn each and every day.

As far as I am concerned Judy, none of you on the Waltons were 'replaceable'. At least in my mind, you were Mary Ellen and nobody else could fill that role. The same with all the characters of the Waltons. It never resonated with me when they brought in the new John Boy actor.

Thanks for the segment Judy. I recently watch a couple of episodes of Hart to Hart, that Ralph directed, and they were among the best of the series, also saw a clip of Ralph get acquainted again after many years with William Shatner and would love to hear about his experiences with the Star Trek episodes he directed. Also he directed a few Fugitive episodes with David Jamsen and those episodes were among my favorites. Also he did some Dynasty episodes would love to hear about those as well as a couple of Twilight Zones. My thoughts. Take care!

In a later episode when Mary Ellen found out Curt was alive and went to see him, Curt had changed emotionally because of what happened during the war. These segments w Ralph are awesome. He is a true treasure and wealth of knowledge. The stolen baby storyline was not my favorite. There were definitely times, especially in seasons, after Richard left, and Michael left, which made me scratch my head & question. It is funny bc there were storylines such as this one that I didn't like as a kid but didn't know why. As for the threats to re-cast, I believe that it would have immediately ended the show. Thank you, Judy & Ralph! Happy Thanksgiving xo

I can't imagine them telling you (repeatedly) that "you all are replaceable" which naturally would cause a little push-back from the cast. I wonder: was there increased stress at that time and if so, what was the nature/cause of it. I think I like your new format.

Judy, I love hearing stories about the Golden Age of Hollywood and the production of an episode of Tbe Waltons. I want to let you know that none of the cast members were replaceable contrary to the beliefs of the executives. I felt that Robert Wightman did an excellent job as John Boy, but you will always remember it as Richard 's role. I don't think that the executives could forsee the longevity and love of the show and it's characters. Thankfully, they chose not to replace Ellen during her recovery or Will after his passing. On a personal note, you look lovely in your autumnal colors.

I remember the story of when Barbara Stanwyck took more than one take. It was during the filming of the Titanic 1953 movie. Barbara was in a lifeboat during the sinking scene. All of a sudden, she realized the significance of that scene and became inconsolable. It took her a few hours to regain her composure. Ralph Senensky makes some great points.

I've been watching the 70s TV series "Family". Different from The Walton family, but a good show. I've seen some writers that also wrote Walton episodes on Family. Last night in one of the last episodes where the mother finds out she's pregnant, I saw Susan Krebs who played Hazel Lamphere, Elizabeth's teacher in "The Idol". I'd never seen "Family" until last year.

So interesting to hear him speak about the ways he felt things were stretched or could have been different script wise. I always admire your takeaway of it all because you were in the middle of iconic-tv at it's best. I know you didn't know them what the show would become, but I'm personally grateful for re-runs, even during the years you were because of the seasons, you'd be off for "vacation" so to speak. 13 off/13 on. Grateful for DVD's, i have the collection, and get to binge stuff when I want to....but I digressed...to see you speak with the directors is such a joy because Iove how you make them "shine". The "fly on the wall" is a great description, it's kinda of how i feel when I watch you here. Growing "older with you" is great, sometimes I can't believe we have the same Birthday. I'm 1960, but my parents and I, would watch your show religiously and my mom loved the fact i got to meet you in NJ and watch the "Homecoming" together. Which brings me to a question....I see "John boy" talking about the Homecoming, i keep catching blurs of it, is it the old one or did they make a new one? I happened to catch, by pure accident, the new walton Thanksgiving. I loved the fact, your family adopted that kid, I would have done the same thing. ❤

*Judy what an amazing real inside look into behind the scenes on any filming sets. Ralph has so much knowledge so I am so pleased that you got to interview him again. 🙂 I also want to wish Ralph good health, as I know that him being on oxygen is not great. But I just love seeing him telling and passing on his great wisdom 🙂nz*

Great interview, Judy! As others have commented, I could listen to the two of you for hours. So interesting, looking forward to more! One question, I know Richard Thomas directed a few Walton episodes, and he is still living, but do you know if any other directors are still living besides Mr. Senensky, just curious? Thanks!

Hey Judy, I've kind of taken a break from The Walton's for a few months, but my wife recently taped The Best Christmas (season 5, episode 11) and we watched it 2 nights ago. It was good to see everyone again as I didn't know how much I missed seeing The Walton's re-runs until I viewed it after a few months off. The Best Christmas was the perfect "kickoff to this year's Christmas season for me. Oh, one other item. A friend of mine is a long-haul trucker and also a KZbinr. I just watched where he exited I-5 @ Lebec for the big Flying J there and you could see the mountains that surround Frazier Park in the video in the distance through his windshield. I couldn't help but think of y'all and the series when I saw them. That's all for now. Happy Thanksgiving to you & your family and to all the other Walton's actors and their families.

Hi Judy. Happy Thanksgiving. Glad to know that you're starting a weekend series. Anyway, regarding being told you were replaceable, it's interesting that besides Richard Thomas, none of the other siblings left during the series. Did any of you get other offers to act in other shows, while the Waltons was being filmed? I think you said that you did other smaller gigs, but did you (or the other siblings) get such offers, sticking to the producers that you were, in fact, irreplaceable? Because the truth was, you were irreplaceable. I couldn't stomach Robert Wightman as the new "John Boy," and I've only watched "The Homecoming" once because I saw it after I watched the series, and it felt weird having a different mom, dad and grandpa.

Good day Judy...a weekend series... the golden age of television... yippee!!! My weekends just became brighter. Mr. Ralph, our own Mr Google, at the helm to kick off the series is a natural choice. His recall and insight to details and plots that occurred decades ago is really amazing. I know everyone's memories aren't the same. I have a friend in his 60's who doesn't remember where he leaves his memory aid tablets. I'm a fly on the wall and want to hear everything. Enjoyed hearing about the Grandchild. That was pretty funny about the dancer appearing on crutches. Sounds like something from a sitcom. Looking forward to your weekend series. Thank you for doing this. Have a question for you. Actually the question is for Mr Ralph. Feel free to add your thoughts. Who is better at taking directions...adults or children? Thanks Judy.

Hi Judy, I just wanted to wish you and your family a very, very blessed Thanksgiving and also to tell you how much I enjoy your videos and I think this is a great idea. You put out a weekly video like this is great. I love it. I had to laugh when you were calling it the golden age on this video is funny here I am 68 years old older than my mother. She died at 54 and I remember going up as a child thinking how old mom and dad was and I was scared to death of old people older than them and now here I am a senior citizen so when I think of golden age, I hear that I have to laugh. This video couldn’t come out on a better day as you may remember I am totally blind and I had an accident on Halloween day. I guess you can say I had a trick but no treat. I ended up tripping over a post that is supposed to the buildings well personally I never thought they did any good but anyway, my cane didn’t find it and I went flying over it and broke my arm, so I’ve been in a lot of pain since then and trying to get that taken care of, so I need a good laugh and something very enjoyable to listen to like this video today, so thanks a lot what the doctor ordered or she say just what nurse Maryellen ordered. There is one episode that has always bothered me a lot. I wish it would’ve been done differently and that was the one about how you found out that Kurt was alive and that you went to see him And I can understand the anger he was going through. I’m sure it was PDSD or PTSD that since he was a soldier and seriously injured. It just bothered me that they didn’t write it in a way that Mary Ellen and Kurt would have gotten back together And that it should’ve been a two-part episode and not just one part it was. I just felt like when you and she said Mary Ellen and Kurt got through talking. It was like OK bye see you later. Have a good day. Yeah that’s how I kind of felt like they needed to add a whole lot more to it butbut I still liked it. I like all of the episodes to Waltons dead all of them were great. Anyway, talking to ear off so you take care have a wonderful Thanksgiving and keep up the great work. We love it. Susan from Houston, Texas.

Not sure if Ralph Sendesky has shared his thoughts on his extraordinary longevity. His mind is so sharp with his detailed recollections. Another important member of the Walton's experience showcased thanks to your channel. :-) BTW interesting about the first take reputation some of you actors have. I always enjoyed The Big Valley, now I will see Barbra with a new appreciation !

Hi Judy. What a lovely surprise and great idea! Well,I am a fan of many golden age series and films, so I will certainly enjoy this. I do appreciate Ralph Senensky's authenticity. He is such a true professional and always graceful in the way he expresses his opinions and ideas. And I understand what he meant when he said that the plot of Cassie stealing Mary Ellen's baby, didn't fit in the 'framework' of The Waltons. I also found that it made the plot too dark. I know that the Waltons explored various themes that were not always sugar sweet, but this seemed too dark or negative, although it ended as always, positive. This is just my opinion. And I loved Ralph Senensky's alternate idea,he's always thinking!! What did you think,Judy?

Wow! What a career Ralph had! From Wikipedia: Senensky directed multiple episodes for dozens of television shows from 1961 to 1988, including The Fugitive, the original series of Star Trek, The Partridge Family and The Waltons. He turned 100 on May 1, 2023. So interesting to hear from him. Thank you, Judy!
