Todd Bridges is a nice guy for sure. My wife and I were contestants on his game show Lovers and Losers at the Plaza Hotel. Todd helped me up the steps. We actually won! We won a trip to Florida. So we decided to do a cruise to the Bahamas. After we got back from the cruise we went to Disney World. Todd is great!!!! So are you! I'm catching up to you. Come September I will be 66 too. Appreciate the channel. I still watch the show on METV!

Thank you so much, Judy, for inviting Todd Bridges and Todd for sharing your time and stories with us! I loved the Walton's storyline of Verdi and Hal's adopting you. It's amazing how many shows you were in! Such a talented young person. How wonderful your Mom taught you acting! Every guest Judy has hosted mentions how kind everyone on The Walton's was/is! Roots was quite spectacular, riveting stories, wonderful actors, terrible history. Yes, it's difficult to accept Ralph Waite as a slave owner in Roots. You were wonderful in LHOTP too! A charming and gifted child and still charming and gifted. Bless Walton's everywhere! ❤

I am so glad that Todd brought up growing up in the San Francisco Bay Area. I grew up there as well during the sixties and seventies, and I tell my children that there really wasn't any racism in that area at that time. It didn't make any difference what color you were, in fact, there were so few black people at my junior high, that if you were black, you were pretty popular. My sewing teacher in junior high was black, and I still have fond memories of her. Just sad what society does. Maybe someday we'll all get along and skin color won't matter. Enjoyed the interview.

This was a great interview, Judy. I recently watched “The Wisdom of Solomon” which was the Little House on the Prairie episode that Todd did. The storyline was similar to “The Stray” episode of The Waltons. Todd had two very memorable and thought-provoking lines in that episode. When the teacher, Miss Beadle, asked the children to name something they didn’t like, his answer was “Being a n*****” except he actually used the ‘n’ word. (I hope I don’t get censored for that). In another scene he asked Charles Ingalls if he’d rather be white and live to be 50 or black and live to be 100. He was a wonderful child actor on both Little House and The Waltons and everything else he was in. Thank you for another great video.

Thanks for sharing that line, “grade1teacher”, comparing 50 & 100 with different societal conditions. I’ve rarely seen the show & missed that episode. That’s fine writing & the question can still be applied well to ask when people claim racism is gone. I agree, Todd Bridges has always been a very good actor. Plus, I’m glad he’s had periods without feeling conditions of racism. Though I think one of many indicators of racism nationally was noticeable even passively: As recently as when Oprah aired (through mid-2011) in many markets that was the only time many commercials featured families who were black. Things have improved and more sharing seems critical to keep evolution building. Thanks for teaching, caring and sharing - here, too.

I may be young, but there are a few things I know about the world and how it works. People fear what they don’t understand, and they hate what they fear. Growing up in North Chesterfield, Richmond, Virginia, I have faced discrimination being a young African American. The educational system treated me differently and so did some of the kids my age. When Todd was on Little House on The Prairie, him saying he disliked being a N !! Everybody was speechless in the classroom. And when he asked one of the characters about living to be 100 years old. “Would you rather be black and live to be 100 or white and live to be 50?!” Micheal Landon really pondered that !!

I like how in Todd's episode the character Ike from the general store revealed himself to be a segregationist. Where does he sleep? he asked John Walton, implying in polite white society Todd should have been banned from the household. Ralph Waite's face gave the perfect answer. It was the Depression. Some rules were relaxed. Touching episode.

I think all non-white actors ( male and female) dealt with racism ( even to this day). So sad. So much ignorance and hate continuing to pass from one generation to the next like some sort of heirloom. Like Maya Angelou said, " Still I Rise". Diversity adds spice to life. ❤Thanks for not backing away or skipping over an ugly truth. Todd Bridges. Amazing actor. Thanks Judy, like I said, you don't disappoint.

Todd Bridges was just so cute and Adorable on the waltons he had so many great roles in that show. other fav was when verdie came out to the porch and found josh sweeping the porch when he was asked because it was the scene where got caught playing craps on the side of Godseys store with little jefferey. ❤

It was great seeing Todd Bridges. I love it when he says That woman is mean on clean. Todd is absolutely right about it's not about talent anymore i can't even watch any of the new shows i just stick with the ones made from the 60s thru the 90s. Thank you once again Judy for having another excellent actor on. God bless.

Todd was a talented, versatile child actor. He had great dramatic roles on The Waltons and Little House. And he stole every scene he was in on the short-lived sitcom Fish (a spinoff of Barney Miller).

Todd, Judy You two made my day! Thank you both so much for this exchange. I love your perspectives on the “business” as children and now adults. The Stray episode was as excellent as television can be. All shows, past, present & future should strive for that level of achievement. Todd, YOU are the reason that The Stray episode was so exceptional. Your acting was superlative. Were you nominated for an Emmy for that? If not, you should have been! I watch the Waltons every day w/ my husband. I love remembering where/when I saw the episode I’m watching for the first time back in the’70’s & 80’s. Keep up the GREAT work on these interviews Judy. Todd, keep on doing what you love to do in acting, writing & directing. Both of you are true treasures of our generations. Mary Z. Walker

LOVE his shirt: Whatchoo talkin' 'bout Willis? Great interview! I know Todd Bridges has had his share of problems growing up, and I'm glad to see he's overcome all that as an adult. Regarding racism: When my kids were small (we're white), probably 6 & 7 years old, a black family moved into the apartment next door. They were the Atta Mensa family and came directly from Africa. My kids brought the two little neighbor boys over to introduce them to me. Never once did my kids mention the color of those boys' skin. They just played together like kids are supposed to, and that made me happy.

I’m so happy for Todd that he has made such a success of his life personally and professionally. As for racism - I always think back to the song in South Pacific “You Have to be Carefully Taught” that basically says racism is taught. Clearly you didn’t give your children any reason to have the thought. Well done.

Judy, you look 40. You take such care of yourself. Oh Judy. I really wished you followed up on Red Foxx. Plus he worked with Michael Fox and Bob Denver and so many other stars. I would have loved to know more about his perspective on those people, but I also know your channel is about the Waltons. Loved the interview. Seems like a cool guy. Glad he talked about racism. So important in any era.

Yes, the old shows, however dated, were very well made. Today's t.v. and most movies are extremely fake and void of any talent. There's a reason I have the entire dvd collections of, The Waltons, Little House, Mash, Cagney and Lacey, Dr. Quinn, E.R. They had substance and talent across the board.

Great coup getting Mr. Bridges! It was interesting to hear how he came into acting via getting inspired with 'Sanford and Son'! It makes sense that he'd have already been friends with a good number of other African-American performers including his 'adoptive parents' Mr. Williams and Miss Hamilton - and Miss Hamilton had the interesting role in the series playing Dr. Haley's Cousin Georgia who had kept all the oral history alive and inspired him to seek out his African roots (and let's not forget that Verdie DID trace her family to the first place they were brought to in the US and hoped to find her OWN 'deepest' roots)! He's right that a performer needs to do drama first in order to master comedy (and also that comedy is drama with better timing- e.g. a pie in the face is funny to watch but rather annoying to deal with in real life). I hope he's able to get his bio produced one day. Thanks for this!

I liked hearing that Todd did not experience prejudice earlier in his life (i.e. not knowing N-word). I had a similar experience, during elementary school we all intermixed without negative reference to genetic background. When I got to junior high, kids from other elementary schools brought in negative attitudes of Us vs Them regarding skin color. Up until then, prejudice was something that happened elsewhere. People should be evaluated according to their actions, do they strive to be good to others or are they causing harm to others, not anything else. Too bad the Different Strokes reboot never happened. I would have loved to see Todd and Kim do a reverse angle on the first series. We are after all the same race, the human race!
