Any questions on any acronyms? DHT is distributed hash table. Want me to elaborate on a topic? Just ask and subscribe so we can keep going. At 25 minutes already, not everything could make the cut. This is a starting point. Links to related good videos in the description!

Hi! I study linguistics and mathematics and propose that our solutions aren't to be found in technological innovation, but rather in self-organization strategies. Open-source and federation social media solutions don't do this, because there is no protocol over words, that is there is not protocol for sharing meaning with functional benefit. This is my long term project.

I like where this thinking is heading, have been there a few times, this gets hard when you enter politics and deliberate missinformation and misdirectioning of fact interptetation

I want people to look at the numbers. I'm not pandering with the wind, and a lot of people who can get on board with this are not yet close to the conversation. Changes in an idea landscape only happen with a lot of individual action. We need sneaker-net action to be able to get through the popular discourse. People have to talk. It's about DMs, emails, conversations, and meet-ups in meatspace.

Nice video. I think one of the reasons for "open source" software losing was that the FSF has been asleep since GCC. You'd expect them to protect the GPL worldwide, capture emerging software markets with new GNU projects (like the browser market) and do much more in general. I guess the failure of Mach must've made them slow down?
@Positron-gv7do
@Positron-gv7do 10 күн бұрын
By Mach do you mean Herd? I kind of thought that was part of ESR's main point in C&B, that the FSF and GNU got completely run over by Linux because they were so insistent on doing Herd in a very particular closed development way.

@@Positron-gv7do Oh yeah I meant Hurd (Herd?). Lisp machine curse

@ Well, the fact that we can't agree on the spelling is evidence that the FSF was not the leadership we wanted or deserved.

@@nebkor to attempt to be brief in a sprawling intersection of problems and heated discourse, I was motivated into this problem space by governance problems, not finance problems. In about 2014, I was very explicitly flirting with the idea of building a better Reddit, which I find to be better for some things than email but still atrocious in other ways. What I found in social decision theory is that the discourse is stuck in the 1800's when we communicated with horses. I developed my solutions from first-principle, in light of the information technology era. I'm having to adapt them for the gen-AI era. Secondly, the problems people wanted to affect are not affected by what was achieved. Determinate systems is open for business. Nix will still receive targeted improvements, likely delivered under pseudonym. Nix is just not the right place to try and solve problems like the over-concentration of top-down energy in places like Russia, China, DPRK, and even Hamas. As long as countries like Russia will occasionally decide to roll over countries like Ukraine in response to their own bottom-up transformation, there is a need for a strong defense industrial base in countries that are not dominated by runaway top-down power, and I would prefer that defense base to not be rife with stupid competition. Evolving governance in the world solves these problems. Fighting over Nix is perhaps a "garden of democracy." Something else we pull from software engineering is that complex systems are built from small systems that work. However, I find the nature of the Nix fight focused on outcomes rather than an evolution of process. Too often, people try to directly achieve outcomes in bad processes, and it's just divisive and leaves everyone quite bitter. Positron is going to ship good processes.

@@Positron-gv7do You are losing me on the geopolitical analysis, or maybe my english is not good enough. Did you just suggest that top-down energy was Russia/China/Hamas/Hitler ?
@Positron-gv7do
@Positron-gv7do 7 күн бұрын
@@MMABeijing Mr. Beijing, I'm glad you asked. Russia and China are run in a top-down fashion, with decisions and authority concentrated at the top. The suppression of political opponents by Hamas and Hitler (who I did not mention lol) are also characteristics of top-down energy. I look forward to your spirited reply.
