So glad you enjoyed this series! I do love how it deals with the trauma of the past. Bloody Anne is such a good character! The right tools for the right job.....

To my mind, this is one of the most underrated series. Not enough booktubers are talking about this series! Glad you liked it. I'll have to read the Last War now. I absolutely love the First Law and this series.

The narrator for the audiobooks was top notch!

I really enjoyed this quartet when I read it a while ago. Heavily inspired and at time borrows ( a ton) from peaky blinders however, think P. McLean nails the grittiness of gangs and court politics. Excited to see where he goes next.

Fantastic series. Read it last year and is one of my favs. Read it with my brother in law and each book he loved it more.

I love this series; had a great time reading them. And yeah, the last two books being physically smaller than the first two irks me to no end! Glad you enjoyed it.

Once, twice, sold!! You have me very pumped to try this series, and I don’t mind some dark and gritty elements at all. I love a protagonist with a lot of vivid voice, so that is music to my ears

And another one of those brilliant series reviews that I will be pointing anyone and everyone to when I want to convince them to pick up this criminally underrated series! Can't wait for more stories by McLean, he is a brilliant author and storyteller 🤩 Also, Bloody Anne is the bloody f'ing best!!

The problem is, it is quite literally a copy of Peaky Blinders. I started the 1st book and it’s basically the same.

I can only agree with you, great series. I loved it as an audiobook where the narrator adds a lot. Bought the actual books for the wife and she loved it as well.

Got the first one already Mike, thanks! If i like it half as much as First Law and Prince of Thorns, its worth the money🥳

(The Second Apocalypse)

I just finished this series. I loved the first 2 installments but I feel like McLean fumbled the end. Everything was rushed! This was frustrating because the author extended the trilogy to a quartet because he wanted to give the plot space to breathe. I did get chills during the last passage though. The series is a flawed masterpiece for sure.

Mike you might check out The Grim Company. I enjoyed it and i would consider it grim dark but a little lighter then mike shackle. Probably in line with Abercrombie

So i just finished book 3 today These are my thoughts Book 1 and book 2 i enjoyed But both books for me suffered from the same thing A rush ending The middle in both books felt amzaing. Felt like the author in book 1 was flushing out the characthers and in book 2 felt he was flushing out the world then comes the ending. It was like the author only was aloud to write a excat number of pages and then he rushed through the ending to get everything done. Both books would have benefited if he slowed down the endings and added a few more chapters Now book 3 God damn was that awful If i have to read 1 more time the line And that is how it is my head will explode I enjoyed the start but then everything we enjoyed in the first book was gone Tomas felt like a diffrent characther and like others saif he did notbing in this book I was waiting for kind of nackstabing plan from tomas on vogel at the end and we get nothing Vogel: go kill this person Tomas: okay and that is how it is Also vogels plan which we found out he was planni g it for years feels so un belivble. Like all the pieaces just fall i to place for him without no setbacks and the way some characthers were written in previous books it is strange to me that tomas asile and igain just followed vogel no questions asked. I thoight those 3 were going to atleast do something All in all will read the 4th book but yep hated book 3

Since I’m not much of a fan of grim dark and was just lukewarm on The First Law trilogy, I’ll probably not pick this series up, even though it does sound pretty interesting. I also am not a fan of when authors reuse the same word or phrase over and over. Like you said, it’s a nitpick but man, can it get annoying and break immersion. Abercrombie did it in TFL with every character constantly saying “erm”. And in The Faithful and the Fallen series (which I love) characters are constantly “shrugging”, sometimes when it seems odd for them to do so. Yeah, def a nitpick but hard not to notice. lol. Keep up the great content!

Just finished the final book and can’t lie I was disappointed, the ending was very predictable and the book was build up and then pay off for 30 pages. It was way too rushed for me personally, but I enjoyed the series as a whole.

I felt the last book was rushed, and i did not like where he went with Billy the Boy. What stays with me til this day is no matter what, Tomas must take his piss!
