The SP 500 Index (~13%) and Nasdaq-100 Index (~20%) had a higher 10-year average annual return than Warren Buffett (~10%). This is mainly do to his lack of diversification in his portfolio. You can play with the data here: www.portfoliovisualizer.com/efficient-frontier#analysisResults

Thank you. Warren Buffett is a freaking investing genius. This video is a real eye opener on how to invest intelligently. One of Warren Buffet's investment principles concerning looking at a company's management, they takeaway for me is the question, "Are they true capitalists?"

This is the best Buffet video I've heard. A lot of it is the same, invest in what you know, invest cheap, ect. But these are the missing points. Especially the part about if it's your best stock don't trade it just because it's allocation is big. Usually people tell you to rebalance, but after this it makes no sense to rebalance unless it looks like the company is done growing and you can make more money elsewhere

11:41 is a great list!! My advice: take the amount of money you want to invest and calculate your possible returns. If you are not able to see your portfolio go down 30% you should not go into stocks. If you’re sure about the company‘s your invested in, you will add more shares in time of fear.Sounds easy but it is tough! At least: don’t sell off, if it is a great company!

This seems very interesting. I agree with WB's view on less diversification. What I need to do more research on is, at what point (capital point/life point) does the average investor needs to switch from more focused to less focused investing or vice versa. Maybe I am overthinking it but in markets like the ones today, i feel like being diverse or maybe holding larger amounts of cash could be a great choice as well. MHO

From what I've read about Warren Buffett, it sounds as if he utilizes several investment approaches or strategies that in many ways are interwoven and maybe even extensions of some of the strategies. I've read Buffett's name linked to Contrarian Investing [this seems to be illustrated at 9:02], but I've never seen any book summaries on this approach on the Swedish Investor's site; unless it goes by another name. I'm going to have to look at this video a few more times.

100% of active investors think they can beat the market. By definition, half of them are wrong. Whilst this may work great for Warren Buffet, its unlikely that most ordinary people will be able to beat the market.

It is not as simple for the average investor to concentrate their portfolio like Buffett or try to imitate his style. Firstly, he has access to CEO’s of companies he invests in and him, Charlie Munger and Buffett’s son are on the board of directors of various companies and knows the intricacies of their balance sheets. He doesn’t have to report his trades to the public for 45 days after completed. He also buys and sells warrants on individual companies as well as loan companies money such as he did in 07-09 with incredible stock options that the average person could only dream of.

It is true that Warren Buffett and the status he has achieved today has made certain deals possible that aren't possible for the smaller investor. But at the same time, there are many more opportunities that the smaller investor can profit from that wouldn't make any real difference for Berkshire today. I think the smaller investor has the advantage when it comes to the number of opportunities :)

Frank0020 I got through college by answering fewer questions than that (a lot of them were good though!). I'll give it a try: - The grey area is represented by earnings of other companies, but Buffett also invests in bonds sometimes - I don't know much about the bank deals, but I'm pretty sure Buffett himself wouldn't call it a swing trade - He leaves a stock once he has found something better, or once the company of the stock has deteriorated so that something else becomes better. The game of investing is all about opportunity costs.

The with more stocks has more diversification and the standard deviation is way lesser. Just the one with less stocks can reach high returns it can also reach zero with same probability. The graph is best example of why focus investing is bad
