Online fan meets, music shows, variety shows, shooting behind the scenes content, not to mention the stuff we do not see behind the scenes in terms of planning and strict schedules. This is just something people like to say to explain the situation but no, she does promote on idol programming. You can see Spicy on both M Countdown and Inkigayo. None of the songs performed well commercially in Korea or abroad and the album only moved 13k units which would’ve been a bomb even in the older days. Her best case scenario was promotions being cheap and barely breaking even. She was also on a ton of variety shows including Knowing Bros the idea that she avoided the idol circuit for that album is fictional and revisionist.

I would NOT underestimate her. She’s incredibly talented and she has connections both here in the US and many in S. Korea, France and Japan. I know she mentioned new music recently in a promotional session with Jay Park and Bam Bam. I believe this commentary loves to create drama where there isn’t any. She’s beloved by many many fans. I listen to her music even to this day. I don’t care for any K-pop groups from this generation..I love the 2nd generation but this is my personal choice.

IF we take a look at the last 5 years for CL.... Scooter&YG both treated CL wrong, empty promises and whatnot. The death of her mother suddenly... being alone in LA for a long time... I think she sees how messed up the US music game and Korea music game is... Dara wanted to sing rather than act and she has released her new music just 2 months ago under her current agency The Abyss Company. So at least she is still active in Kpop industry. Minzy has not released any music since late 2021 although she is still running her own agency MZ Entertainment. Bom is still in hiatus due to her ongoing health issue but I heard that she is better now. Hope to see her soon. As for CL, that is a mystery.

Sigh. Y'all always underestimate Dara because she isn't a strong vocalist. Dara belongs on the stage. She is passionate about music and performing and anyone who has seen her perform could tell. She has great charisma and energy and always gives her 110%. And more importantly, unlike many idols today (not in a derogatory manner), her goal wasn't to live the kpop idol life. Firstly, we can blame YG, because he is known for having huge history of misogyny when it came to treating his girl groups and female solo artists so badly before Blackpink came to the big picture, but now those are his money making machine, and I say this as a blink. The “tricky” thing with CL is that, in a group, she does amazing. As a solo artist, not as well. She’s amazingly talented but if I’m being brutally honest, her look was never going to take her to superstardom (as a solo act) in Korea bc they’re so damn focused on physical appearances. US market should be more ideal for her, but no one did their best to promote her and in the west, artists coming from K-pop backgrounds often aren’t taken as seriously, it’s much better these days but during her days, not so much.

I’m not really expecting for her to do what others would expect her to do because like she has finally found her best version of herself as an artist and as a human being. As a grown up GZB, I feel the happiest seeing her having a full creative control with her works and working with the right people. There’s no such thing as like “wasted potential” if you’re objectifying it as some sort of a superstar. Anyway, in our mind and heart, she’s the brightest star.

Before y’all come at me with "YG could’ve kept promoting her" I mean they could’ve but she wasn’t really making any noise in the west, her song was a hit but it wasn’t a massive hit or a sellout. YG is known to pay their Artist lot of money instead of taking their money themselves, so she had the time to promote herself even if she wasn’t on any variety shows or making music back then. She left the company and release new music now but now it feels old or unoriginal. We get she lost 200 songs to YG but if you can make 200 songs, make others and try to make more hits that are different not the same songs you lost from YG

Like we havent seen many artists that are put in YG basement after they ran their careers to the ground and by then creating scarcity until those careers fade away. We have seen this before with YG. Also you talk like korean artists have some agency in their careers on an industry as tight as kpop. Getting free of contract that are strangling some artists careers is impossible and the industry is so controlling that what artists say or do is heavily monitored. Thats why your comment makes no sense. Koreans artists have zero agency about themselves when they sign a contract. They are not american artists.

She's still a force to be reckoned with, and is very much still an icon that everyone acknowleges. Just because these new kpop stans who only stan because of visuals dont know who she is, doesnt mean that she stopped exisisting or being relevant. Ig she's just sick and tired of the kpop industry and chose not to be part of it anymore which is something i dont blame her for. For 7 years her and her grouo were bullied by their former label "YG" and the GP for not looking "pretty" like the other gg despite CL being one of the 1st female idols to be involved in the writing and production concept and wasnt just sitting aroynd waiting for a new comeback to grace her. To this day, no female idol comes even close to her in terms of stage presence, lyricism and rap. One could argue that Soyeon and Hwasa are the 3rd and 4th gen version of CL (They are queens in their own way and i love them both) but CL is clearly on another level.
