I''m an amateur hack repair guy (only my own watches) and this video has given me a new technique. I have an old oris which has a wonky hairpsring. I've been struggling with getting the hairspring just right. Now I'll be checking the collet hole is dead centre by placing it on the flipped balance arm. top tip!

Still learning as much as possible before attempting my first cheap watch disassembly, lube and reassembly. Hairspring technology is just absolutely fascinating.

Sir, I take my weather beaten cowboy hat off to you, you are indeed a true artist, very nice work and I’m sure that you could get the watch to within a couple of seconds a day. What a skill!!!

Hey, Mark, watching your videos again and, now being a little more knowledgeable, I noticed that you were using a computer instead of a timegrapher. Any recommendations on parts and software? Is it the same as a $150 timegrapher? Now it’s easier to understand some of the actions and terms you use. Just like the video about twisted hairspring, at first I couldn’t get the lifting the spring to put it over the regulator but, after a dumb moment I realize that, when you lift the balance cock, the lower parts are the ones which will stay down while the outer goes up, and it really makes it easier to place it over it! Who knew that Mark could be right, once again!!!! Lol Thank you very much!

The things people do to watches :-) I find it interesting that someone who's skillful enough to handle a hairspring without damaging would still use a huge blob of glue as a method to fix it.

Besides superglue ;-) and magnetism, what are some other possible causes of a movement running fast (if the hairspring looks relatively intact and not distorted)?

So I assume hole punch effectively squeezed the collet and widening it? Pretty clever

Great video. Never seen that before but will be on the look out for it. I bought an old pocket watch that had glue on the bottom of the balance rim to give it more weight. Crazy things people do.

Does hitting your watch by accident at work all the time, can mess with the regulation ? I have an omega geneve 1960s was keeping 3 sec a day +/- and when the power reserve is extremely low it showed -250sec/day. I quickly turned the crown to the full and dropped to a -50sec/day.

One of those internet watchmakers fixed that watch. You know the people that watch a few videos and think they’re experts. No BS watchmaker had some guy calling him a amateur, the man calling him that learned how to service a movement 6 months prior from videos online.

Great video as always Mark! I wondered if you can help me, my watch with an eta 2824-2 that I've had for exactly a year has started losing three minutes a day, it's never been drop or banged and has been welled look after. What could be a sudden cause for it to start losing so much time, can this timing error be corrected just by regulating or is it in need of a service? Many thanks :)
@WatchRepairChannel7 жыл бұрын
Seems like it might need to be serviced. Intervals should be around 3 years.

I am not as knowledgeable as I would like. Can someone help me out and explain amplitude as relates to watches? I have a background in math, and degrees of amplitude confuses me a bit ;) Seems like it's a measure of degrees of motion of the balance wheel?
@andersekman83786 жыл бұрын
I am a novice like yourself, but my reasoning is this: In the case of a pendulum, the amplitude is the furthest distance the pendulum travels from the point of equilibrium. The balance wheel has the same role as a pendulum as the time keeping element, so the amplitude must be the angle measured from the point of equilibrium to the point where the wheel changes direction.
