@@valeria-ll2fe that is true, but how people walk can't actually tell the full story. For exmaple: when someone told me that according to a study, if you walk with your back humped, you aren't confident, and in my mind I was like "oh yeah, it's not like osteoporosis exists." It's not fully accurate, but it was studied. We just can't really paint the whole picture sometimes

I guess I am in “The Show-Boat” category. I like to walk like I am a runway model even in public. Makes me feel way more comfortable because it’s in my nature and it’s harder to hide that energy inside my body. There is no use in putting your confidence in a jail! You will feel way more confident when you walk like the way you feel comfy :)

How weird- for once I don't really find myself falling into one category. I feel I'm more of a combo between the executive and the worrier since I don't got a lot of confidence but I want others to feel like I do. Great vid as always Psych! :D

I've noticed that my walking style is usually The Worrier, as I do often look down sometimes when walking, but also still looking forward a bit. But I also do a bit of The Chiller as well, especially if I happen to be wearing a hoodie of sometime. I'd say these definitely match up with me, as I am fairly laid-back introvert.

So I'm thinking I'm an Executive Walker. Now, I do pay attention to my surroundings--for the simple fact of how I was raised to do so for safety reasons and as an adult you should always notice everything no matter your walking pace. But, yes I walk fast. Hell, I have places to be! Even at work I walk fast.💁🏾‍♀️🤣🤣 I really love these videos, there so soothing to my soul and of course educational in the same breath. 😁

My EX is 6'5" When he walks, he sticks his nose in the air and sets out at MAXIMUM stride, so that all the little (and even normal) people around him are forced to scuttle to keep up with him. Disney world SUCKED, but I lost like 12 lbs in 2 weeks, and our son (but only for a little bit)..... I can't imagine THAT being a desirable executive trait... Dictator, MAYBE....

Based on the walks here, the ones I do the most: 1:04 Executive - I do this all the time nowadays. There's never enough time. 2:45 Chiller - This is the main walk I do when I finally do all the things I need to do so I can chill wherever I want (or a time where I'm forced to relax) I used to be a worrier 2:10 for most of my time growing up and in my early 20s. However, I stopped once someone told me that one way to reduce how depressed you are is to keep your head up. They said it had something to do with blood flow, but I'm not sure what it was. Whether it's placebo effect or not, I don't care because it worked for me, and anyone that I tell it to will come back to me in a couple weeks telling me it works for them. Combine these 3 things and you can kinda sum up a large chunk of my life. I used to be someone with very sensitive emotions and was always depressed and had anxiety. So I worried all the time about how I could make it all better when walking to places since it was the only real time I had to be able to think. So head down, looking down, walking slowly was a constant. Upon taking steps to fix my life slowly overtime, I stopped worrying, stopped being depressed all the time. However, there's always more to be done if I want to do what I want in life, so I generally walk quickly because I want stuff done asap. Then when everything is done, the chiller walks come out, as I'm happy with all improvements that have happened in my life, and happy with everything that I've done. Life will always get better as long as you put in the effort to improve it, and it will become easier to do so in the future. = )

Perhaps you aren't aware of your walking style as a default worrier and are mis-categorizing yourself as a chiller. It's more about your natural style and you can't just choose between different situations. Executive personality is the polar opposite of the worrier and very confident to the point of arrogance.

That sounds more like the showboat walking style. The video just describes executive walker as someone that is very focused on their goals and getting it done and walking quickly. When I started walking with the executive style it was when I had to walk in public places more often and my anxiety was at it's worst. Walking to places quickly so I didn't have to be in a stressful environment anymore. Head up was mainly to move to a different area whenever possible, and to lookout for things that could cause some embarrassing situation. There's a reason why I said "I used to be a worrier". Events can change who you are, so have a good chunk of my life story explaining why I was something but now no longer. Here is my long journey from being one of the most skittish people you've ever seen, to someone that is just a quiet emotional person that'll sometimes take charge if no one else wants to. When I was younger, depression and anxiety basically ruled my life. When my anxiety was at it's worst, I was basically agoraphobic, just existing outside the house felt extremely terrible. Being in the same room as another person made me feel horrible, and if I stayed near people for too long, my body would feel very weak, which would make for very unproductive days since it would drain my energy, which would then lead to more depression for not getting things done. This is why I originally started doing the "executive walk", because the longer I was out in public, the more my energy was drained, so my objective done immediately, then that's less time for my emotions to make my body feel sore and stuff. Overtime I did get over that. In Middle school to high school I basically was tired of all the cruddy people I was meeting and stopped talking to everyone except for my current "best friends", and when you don't practice socializing it's just going to cause a lot more anxiety. Around 19 I realized my anxiety was effecting my ability to get a job, which I didn't think would be a problem because I always heard that jobs are easy as heck, quizzes are very hard, I always got A+ on my tests, so theoretically that must make getting a job a breeze, but no, it doesn't work that was. So I decided to look up a online meetup group so I can get over my anxiety and I got lucky with people that were used to people with anxiety which helped a little bit. One time they decided to drag me to a convention. First 2 days I was basically stuck in the hotel room because anxiety was too bad, but the last day I was so bored and said "F it, I'm tired of just being in here, I'm gonna go see what there is" and then had a great time on that last day. Knowing that it was possible for me actually enjoy myself around a large group of people, this did massive wonders for my anxiety. Later on my drive to "master" every game I touched growing up led me to trying to win in some team games. However when you play with randoms, your chances of losing skyrocket. One week I was having a very horrible time in life and was one of the few times I got very irritable. So out of frustration I started leading people, but at first it was not working 'cuz people generally don't want to listen to someone that you can tell is irritable in some way. Then I just gave up and was still giving advice but apathetically. Then people started listening, then I started feeling good especially when people were thanking me for tips. Then I started having an easy time leading people, and even if someone was having a very bad day, it'd take about 5-15 minutes for them to come around and start playing better and start chilling. This did absolute wonders for getting over my anxiety which would then pave the way for the last large step with getting over anxiety. Basically a few years ago I got VR because I was attempting to get remove anxiety (after all I've tried many many things in the past to remove anxiety, this seemed more likely than a lot of those things). Turns out I'm incredibly sensitive to it, more than I ever thought possible, even to the point of getting phantom sense and whatnot (Which is nice sometimes, but other times annoying as there is no "off button" for phantom sense). So because I'm so sensitive to it, talking to people in VR, it feels like I'm actually talking to them IRL. I was a wallflower to the extreme, but luckily there were some games that could be played am I'm extremely familiar with playing games which lowered the anxiety a little bit. So I played a lot of murder and "never have I ever" when I first played in VR until I was able to find a nice friend group. Then slowly overtime I stopped being so nervous, and I even look at people in the face with no problems anymore. The feeling of something horrible is about to happen IRL was now gone, as I now feel comforted being in the presence of other people IRL. Nowadays I don't feel anxiety unless it's someone entirely new in an area where there is literally nothing to do and I know nothing about them. Lots of awkward moments until I can figure out what kind of person they are. I prefer finding friends through friends because it can be hard to keep up with all the friends I have already, so no reason to not meet someone without the mutual friend there. Also past few months I've started yanking other people out of their comfort zones since so many of my friends wanted to do the same things but were too nervous to start anything because they were nervous about wasting someone's time or whatever. I know this so I've starting up weekly/monthly things recently. Also, I have a massive confidence boost recently because I saw the 1997 berserk anime (watch it if you don't know spoilers!). Saw this character named Griffith, and he did quite a few things I could relate too and he seems like a cool dude. Seeing enough of him I was like "gasp, is this the first character in anything that I could possibly actually idolize in my life? I'm 33 right now, I never thought I'd see the day". However, at first I was depressed for a bit because Griffith makes a little bit of an oopsies near the end that makes Guts a bit grumpy. Then it made me realize I metaphorically did the same oopsies multiple times in the past of my life. Stopped being sad when someone was like "dude, you worry too much, you'd never do that nowadays", which calmed me down, after all the group of friends I have now are much different from "friends" of before where previous friends were either bullies pretending to be friends when I was a kid because they love seeing how I cry at the littlest things and stealing my stuff, or just random people I met in video games but never talked about anything other than the game itself. So now I have the most massive motivation boost because before I was just trying to improve myself to be the best I can be, now I'm happy with where I am, but now I want to be even better, and set an example that other people can look over to make them want to achieve their goals and get out of their ruts as well. I've done stuff like that in video games before, but now I'm trying to set an example so people get out of their IRL stuff. So yeah, I really love berserk and now know why a lot of series get inspired by it. Definitely reading into Friedrich Nietzsche stuff after I read the Berserk Manga since apparently Berserk pulls a lot of inspiration from him. I'm very happy with where I am right now with the things I've achieved and the good friends I have now I still have much more improvement to go, but I enjoy so much of everything in life now and I'm strong enough to make a path to whatever destination I want. So when I'm relaxing/forced to relax, I walk with the chill walk because it feels nice and I don't really have anywhere I need to be. I'm no longer the person that never had control over their life because they were too weak emotionally, physically, and socially, clinging onto the only thing that they knew that would make them happy in hopes that that thing would help their life. A person that was all alone with no support, and no way of knowing how they can get themselves out of that situation. I hope you understand why I said "used to be" now. I assume you just didn't see that part, but saying this here for anyone who did see but still think that someone can't change, also to feel better about where I am now, and venting a little bit. Seeing people say that no one ever changes their personality ever is just a little annoying to me since I've seen so many people change into vastly different people over the years (some of them making changes based on advice I've given them, changing their perspective on life) and myself having a huge emphasis on improving in my life, so even if there's a little implication that people with a certain type of personality are stuck in that one personality and are doomed to be that way can bother me. As for anyone who read all that, congratulations on surviving the wall of text! I like to be thorough, but I usually try to be more concise for a reason nowadays. Though every now and then I feel the need to say all the things =p

I used to be the person who walked like kinda fast (I was used to getting everywhere at the last minute, so I always had to walk fast and now it's kinda a habit + I got used to it especially by my older sister, who always used to walk fast, which she learned by the eldest sister of ours), keeping my head down, because of my lack of confidence. Then once, I suddenly said to myself (in my head) _Girl stop. You have to look more confident, so your head will be up. You might look down, but keep your head up._ and well with that I kinda gained some confidence (even though it's still low, but not as low as before, so I'm proud of myself ^^). At least my appearance doesn't look as weak as it used to (not calling anyone out, except for my past self). So now I walk quick, keeping my head up, appearing more confident, while I'm actually not really... And it's also good to confuse people I think, because I might appear like an extrovert, while I'm an introvert 😈. Just if anyone asks - yes, I hate people 😂...

Sounds like I'm in the same boat with you. I couldn't find my type in any of the described types in the video. I'm a typical introvert and still lacking of self confidence (impostor syndrome is quite strong in me) but I'll constantly remind myself to hold my head up high and shoulders straight. I love walking fast while taking huge steps and get kind of annoyed with people who walks too slow 🤣 especially healthy people who are younger and of my age. So if I'm by myself or with my siblings, I walk pretty fast. Just so used to it. The only time I walk slow is when I'm close to nature or hiking, enjoying the greens.

I'm sorta the arm-crosser at times. Other times, I walk fast, like the executive. Usually, it's because I'm insecure of my chest area, so I use my arms to hide it. Other times, when I'm just nervous and insecure all together, I will walk at a quick pace, hoping to escape others. Great video! 😊❤

I'd have to agree that I have the Exceptive walk. I do take into consideration that I have walked at a faster pace than a majority of people and I think it's funny or rather I enjoy that kind of walk as I cover more ground at a faster pace and it immediately gets people out of my way when I need to get things done. Also, I love this channel as it helped me through a... difficult time for lack of a better word. Please keep up the amazing videos

I definitely walk like an executive. My friend used to have trouble keeping up with my strides even though I'm shorter than her. I've also unintentionally passed a lot of people I know in public places because I'm lost in my own thoughts. Only when they call out to do I respond 😅

I'm completely the Arm-Crosser, but the thing is that I cross my hands. My nature way of walking is always with the hand crossing, which I don't think the rest of people notice, but it can appear kinda weird to see a person walking like that xd. That's basically why I like the sweatshirts, with those front pockets which you can use to put your hands. I think... That I don't really feel safe or confident at all

I'm an introvert, with depression and anxiety....so I used to take slow steps with my head low and my back arched. It sucked being like this for years but I currently can walk with head high and with proper posture. Gotta say tho, even when I cure my depression and anxiety (hopefully), I'll probably still focus in the ground and sink in my deep thoughts, the difference is that they will no longer be 90% negative. I swear there's just something appealing to this stereotypical introverted walk for me (maybe cuz I'm an introvert lol)

I'm an executive walker, though I do pay some attention to my surroundings. I walk with a purpose, not like I got all day. I've been told to slow down by friends, who I may leave behind, and that I'm intimidating by those who don't know me. I'm not mean to people, but they assume I'm angry or that I'm short-tempered. I tried to slow my walking, but it felt just...wrong.

I feel like most people walk with a mix of all of these different types. If I'm in a hurry to get somewhere I walk like the executive, but if I don't give a shit about anything and am just chilling I walk like a chiller. If I feel self conscious for whatever reason I walk a little bit like a worrier. It all depends on mood and circumstance.

I walk leaning forward, arms tightly to my sides (sometimes one on my chin), head down (autism style), going 90 mph, not because I want to get to class early, but because I want to spend as little time in the hallway. I also want to make it before the human walls begin to form. It’s damn near impossible to walk past them.

To those saying how does psych apply to something like walking. Well what psychology does is try to identify and explain thought patterns, once you do that you can determine how a person will approach tasks (i.e walking, how they stand in a crowd, where a person will position themselves in respect to exits, etc.). Your thought patterns determine how you do everything, it’s just varying degrees of scale depending on the task.

For months I've purposefully walked almost exactly like Pierce Brosnan in his gunbarrel opening; So much so that it's become a habit. Just from that, walking itself has become fun because I feel extremely confident overall and i feel it makes me come off as open, yet determined.

As I walk with speed a bit higher then medium, keep my head high, my gestures are usually limited by a small amplitude of arms going back and forth, I believe that I suit Politician the most. And that's interesting because I am studying at "State and Municipal government" faculty. XD But more interesting is how had I got this walk. In 8th grade of so I was going to confess my feelings to a girl whom I loved for several years and I was really worried. My classmate told me that I have no chances because of my "looser walk" (I had a "worrier" walk then) and "girls only like confident people". Wince then I started walking like I walk now. Even though my classmate's words were a bit mean and I was rejected, I believe, that everything that led me to the current situation is for good: I became much more confident and open since that time.

I’ve been told I walk like a celebrity- the one foot in front of the other, hips swaying thing. By my gym teacher in PE a few years ago- it was flattering and flustering. So probably showboat? I am rather self absorbed- at first it was a conscious effort when a friend encouraged me a few years ago, saying it looked good to sway the hips more when I walk. She really hyped me up and gave me the confidence to walk like that. Before that I was a mix of executive and worrier- walking fast and focusing on the ground. Nervous- very introverted. So in all honesty, just changing a little thing like the way I walk gave me so much more confidence. Probably an intimidating amount- I even find I like to dance now. For fun. My body naturally moves to the music. The whole holding my head up high, really observing the decorations on the walls and smiling more to say “good morning”.. I find myself able to enjoy the environment around me so much more than I did back then. Part of walking like a showboat is just being comfortable with yourself and confident in who you are. One foot directly in front of the other. Shoulders back. And head held ‘high’.

I have a unique Walking Style. The Ninja. I walk fast like Executive, but very soft steps, with very sure footing. Up hill? Keeping the same pace. All while making very little noise.

As a komi-san walker type, close ppl used to tell me to raise my head up high and try to be more mindful of the surroundings. I have to admit it helped me a bit later on (but still my head’s in the clouds regardless :D )

I have multiple traits I would walk fast while in school and while walking alone, and I'd usually have my nose in a book. Now I walk quickly because I don't have the leg stamina to wait around and will usually be watching for cracks in the sidewalk where I can trip When I was with friends I'd slow down to walk behind them to hear the conversation I'm also an introvert

I'm not exactly sure witch one I'm most like, but I've had a couple of people stop me while while walking around the amusement park I work at and complement the way I walk. I found it odd and confusing at first lol. I even made a note of it: An older dark skinned lady stopped me and told me I have a "hip-hop walk", (I have a cool walk she said to clarify) Also recently started wearing a loud bell on my belt to signify my location because I keep accidently keep sneaking up on co-workers and unintentionally scaring them so I was like why not wear a loud bell? I also get compared to a cat a lot too.

This is hugely interesting - especially as I walk A LOT and am very aware that my own mood influences how I walk each day ( fast and decisive some days and utterly shambolic on others 😄) I walk at a good pace and take in both my surroundings and those around me (I smile at people and their dogs A LOT 😁💖👍). I can wrap my arms around myself but that's generally to warm myself up! I love walking as it cheers me up, helps to keep my blood sugars balanced (I'm a type 1 diabetic) and gets me out and about every day.plus it's free and keeps me fit. I love it! It's such a wonderful way to mentally process problems and boost your mood (I know it definitely does that for me!) 😉👍

mine are a mix of the stomper, executive and the showboat, mainly i really can't help but to walk loudly. im also attuned to slow walkers because i am mostly walking in the city, where its imperiative to walk fast so that carries for me. i also tend to walk with my feet pointing outward and not forward (which seems to signal meticulousness and introversion imo). the first time i noticed my walking style was when my mum pointed out that my now ex and i walked in the exact same way. (i'd also add that we were fairly similar people too).

Huh. I don't walk like any of these. I keep my head low and look at the ground just ahead of me, keeping a lookout for tripping hazards etc-- but I take long strides & move quickly, wanting to get to my goal quickly.

The psychoanalysis of walking styles is actually a bit more complex than this. For example, the degree to which one swings their arms while walking usually speaks to how introverted or extroverted they are (extroverts generally engage their arms more). The way you walk may also fluctuate with your mood somewhat. For example, I generally try to walk with my head high and shoulders back. This is not a reflection of my confidence, since my self-esteem is generally low, but rather, an effort on my part to maintain good posture for health reasons. However, when I am very depressed, I find it hard to hold my head up and my shoulders slump forward. Even though I dislike this because I know it is bad for me physically, it is very hard to correct it when I’m down in the dumps. However, regardless of my mood and its effect on my posture, I tend to walk with a purposeful stride. Despite that, I don’t swing my arms much because I am an introvert. One’s gait can also be affected by physiological factors that are unrelated to the psyche. For example, I tend to look down when I walk because my balance is poor and it reduces the chances that I will stumble… also, I am always looking out for potential hazards in my walking path. Anything from an unexpected incline, a low step I didn’t notice, or even a small pothole could cause me to fall. I’m not worried, I’m experienced. Similarly, because I have an invisible disability, my gait is slower than the average person’s. Enough that I got bullied for it in middle school. I’m not walking slowly deliberately, but unless I am either speed walking on purpose or in a really upbeat and energetic mood, my “fast, purposeful” walking is slow by other people’s standards. And I generally try to avoid speed walking even when I’m excited because if I don’t pace myself, I’ll become exhausted no matter how happy I am and wind up walking slowly while stumbling around like I’m drunk because my body has no strength left. Walking is tough for some of us, man.

I think I have an executive type walk. I tend to walk fast (long strides, not quick movements) and with purpose. Side note: I’ve heard that the way someone angles their feet when they walk can be indicative of how open of a person they are.

I'm the executive walker minus the confidence. I've always been fast, even when walking. I just have energy to spend, but I'm not sure exhibit that same executive confidence per-say. If I'm looking at my phone, I use my peripherals to avoid any incoming obstacles; otherwise, I'm taking in the view, or trying to plot my direction and figure out how to even get where I'm going, but generally, I'm aware of myself.

A person's health probably determines their walking style than their personality. I have arthritis and high blood pressure which causes me to walk slowly - if you walk too fast with arthritis, you are likely to trip, miss a step and fall over and high blood pressure can give you a headache and an uncomfortably fast heart rate if you walk too fast. I wouldn't put any stock on this at all.

I think and ponder alot, and im chill. However if im thinking alot when walking I have my arms crossed. Probably because subconsciously I dont want to be bothered when im deep in thought. When with friends Ill have my hands in my pocket, or behind my back grabbing my wrist as my arms are loose. Im an introvert, however im also social and open. I just dont have a large battery life for social activity. I wouldnt say im agreeable though. If someone is wrong about something, I casually tell them because to me, letting someone be wrong means you dont care about them or what they think. However if you mean agreeable as in go with the flow, im definitely that. Super lax about everything. Like if my friend asks which resteraunt I want to eat at, ill tell them "you decide man, I can go for about anything" If im alone though, in a state of hyperfocus while pondering ill pace in circles around the room im in. Looking down with my hand on my chin and mouth. I dont think this covers nearly all the different walking styles, or even tries to. But body language subconsciously mimics your mental state so it makes sense. Im closest to the chill walker in the vid, all things considered. But if I had my own walking style id call it "the thinker" since im constantly lost in thought.

Now I do tend to walk while looking at the ground half the time, but not while walking slow. That's usually a no-go in New York, especially since I already walk at a fast pace when I'm out and about.

I have no idea which one I fall into. I don't usually put a lot of thought into the way I walk at all, but I've observed that I walk at a fast pace, while trying to not attract too much attention to me, usually keeping my head low. My main goal when walking in this way is to get to where I'm going at a faster pace than usual, while not trying to look like I don't want to be there.

I think I might be a politician but I used to be the nervous walker type. It's crazy to see how much my walking style changed now that I'm recovering from severe depression. I hold my head up high , i smile more and initiate eye contact. I walk fast with my chest bumped but I can occasionally slow down to admire my surroundings.
