Ok, quick things to consider after this badass show: 1. It's never easy to put on a 14 min medley when you have so many hits and good songs and you wanna merge them perfectly together 2. The opening with the choir was insane 3. Considering that the arena was basically empty (maybe 7k people in there) the idea to put the stage on the standings was nice and made the show more tv-oriented 4. Please notice how, during blinding Lights, even the camera crew is dressed in red and black so you don't notice them too much 5. Maybe people was too used to flashy and exaggerated halftime shows that now underestimate this performance (personally I think Abel kinda wanted to take the same approach Prince had in his halftime show, giving all the space needed to his character and the music) 6. Never seen Abel so happy on a stage, don't take this for granted
@jeffdmk65303 жыл бұрын
I would add another one: 7. The Superbowl is a familial event, so kids are also watching. Therefore the playlist had to be family friendly also, while being energetic at the same Time. The weeknd didn't even dropped the dirty/explicit tracks from his catalogue (we all know these bangers 😉), and still managed to deliver a great show. Glad i Saw him during the starboy tour! I think I understand why the "hating" and the critics about this performance and it's mainly because all the past superbowl performances were a lot of dancing, big effects and lot of PERFORMERS combining both of these things with them and people get used to it, and I'm not tryin' to be offensive at all, just objective but The Weeknd barely dances and when he does, he is very Michael Jackson's moves so here is where it comes the hating (confusion) thing and critics, the same happened with Maroon 5, but for those people who don't understand that, he is NOT a performer like Shakira, Beyonce, JLo, Gaga or Michael Jackson, he is an INTERPRETER, and an interpreter sings live! so he doesn't need to dance or be this big expectations where a lot of people got confused, mainly because they don't know how to relate this things with him and a lot of those people saying that were kinda out of the place. He is a visual/theme singer and artist, and with After Hours, he proved that so they need to stop relating two different sides of a performance. This performance was legit and amazing btw.

It’s the OG/ REAL Abel fans that understand this performance and what it means to him, his team and all of us out here than have been following him. He was homeless on the streets of Toronto free styling, doing drugs in his tiny apartment making music as a faceless, nameless artist making music that pierced the souls of the people listening and understanding what he’s really saying. From the beginning of the performance with all of the robot faces representing all of his fans and his presence that only exsisted on the internet to a choir of people singing along with him and cheering him on. To when he’s signing “I can’t feel my face” stumbling around the lit up hallway of mirrors and lights when he really blew up and became more “mainstream” where everyone was saying he got swallowed up by the fame to 7:42 when when he’s LITERALLY on top of the world singing “I feel it coming”. To the FUCKING HOB moment on the field (I know we all lost it at that moment) with what looked like hundreds of faceless Weeknd copies marching and singing along with him directly into “Blinding Lights”. Where he started to where he is now. Incredible. I’m sure there’s more that I missed or interpreted differently than others. Would love to hear others thoughts!

The amount of shit I've seen on twitter about people saying it was shit is unbelievable. The performance was absolutely stunning and took some of his songs to levels i didn't even know they could go to. Couple tears rolled down my face as I'm so proud of this man. XO

I agree. He's one of the performers I must see before I die. Omg his live vocals are so incredible and the production and visuals are fire. Love his music so much. The lyrics, the angelic vocals, the performance, the orchestration, how he flawlessly blends musical genres, instruments, and decades to make something wholly original, while singing from his own unique perspective, he's the true definition of an artist to me. He's a musical & creative genius and one of the best to ever do it.

his performance was amazing but the sound mixing was pretty bad, but it's literally always bad for super bowl performances. people just have a hard time separating the performance itself from the poorly mixed live audio

me and my mum got emotional watching it too, he's just so incredible and from starting with nothing, he really worked his way up. he's so different and naturally talented because most of the artists these days have been to singing schools that just got them an immediate record deal, but this guy truly worked for it and he's the greatest artist of this generation.

To see an artist i have been listening to religiously for the past 8 years come so, so, so far, i could not be any more happier. The emotion in his voice, you can just hear how proud he is, how happy he is, and so are we, the new and the old XO fans.

Abel DID say that this SuperBowl performance would have a Hidden Message for XO fans if they're paying attention and I think that the hidden meaning behind this Super Bowl performance by The Weeknd; is trying to simply explain Hollywood itself, all of the theories that everyone has that they're being controlled in a way where at certain times they aren't in control of themselves, but then afterwards taking the one doing normal things that they do in their normal life. Most of those people got Fame/Fortune for a reason and yes while most of it had to do with hard work, it wasn't luck, it's more like a curse they all have to abide by a certain rule and they all have to hide behind a mask not being insane for their real self but for the image that they've projected for themselves that's why you can see an angel falling from heaven, the angel falling from heaven can explain normal people losing their faith and turning towards the darkness when they choose a life that is so called heaven for normal citizens. and the army of masked up red suit Marchers in the performance, that is probably a little nod to the fact that all of them (Celebrities in/of Hollywood) are working towards/for something, and they are being hidden while doing so.
