This song perfectly punctuates the sense of melancholy growing up actually has. Many people sleepwalk through ageing, blinded by the distant dreams of their perfect, idealised life. So many don’t see those beautifully bittersweet moments underneath our imaginations. Our parents getting old, friends growing distant, interests shifting, love fading, time receding. New family born, new friends made, new interests discovered, new loves arriving, memories growing. Life is incredible. I wish you all a good journey through it.
@caldw6153 жыл бұрын
That wave of melancholy has hit me a lot recently. The past few years of me being away from my parents, living with my partner, seeing my grandfather get sick with cancer and pass... it's a strange feeling. I sometimes long for the simpler times I once had because I didn't know I'd never be able to relive those same moments now. And this is coming from someone who's struggled with depression and anxiety for over 10 years and is only more recently been feeling content with how my life turned out. Everything is bittersweet.

Apologies, I did not see your reply before. Though it can feel brutal & harrowing, death is a part of life as much as birth. I lost my grandmother the other week, the final grandparent to depart & it gave much to reflect on, knowing that entire generation of my tree had now gone forever…very sobering. I understand wanting to return to those old times, even more so with our current perspectives in hand. Oh what potential we would hold! But we reside here & now, so where you can, think and see beyond yourself and enjoy a life that is fuller & fulfilled by the relationships and delights you gain from others. I hope life has been kind since you replied to my comment & that you are able to manage the feelings & temper them with worthy deeds and actions that enrich you 🙂

just thought about this song two days ago when i started a new career path (kind of) and was super nervous. But they told me the only steps that matter are the ones you take all by yourself and I repeated that in my head while walking in. Love the song anf it's message and it has helped me a lot when I was trying to get out of my comfort zone!

I completely agree. I'm just tired of people complaining about/blaming popular artists for the crap that's saturating mainstream music, when ultimately the problem is the average consumer consistently paying the record companies millions of dollars to produce it.

When people say that the Weepies should be more famous I agree, but at the same time I don't want it because then their songs will get over-played on TV and would lose their magic. This is real music, this is beautiful, not the stupid songs that get millions of views on KZbin and don't even deserve half of those views. The Weepies sing meaningful songs... I love them!

I would argue that even the people who came here from a stupid dramatic tv show have to appreciate good music or they never would have bothered looking up the song at all. Even more than that it is amazing that bands get the opportunity to actually be heard in a way only television can truly provide (with radio stations the way they are that is).

some people had issue with the muppets, but I get the feeling this fits with what the song is saying. I grew up with the muppets and the song is about the wistful feelings we have as adults and self doubt, regrets, and feelings of being stuck in our lives. The song is saying (to me) that you didn't loose anything from when you felt safe as a child. You grew, experienced life, and became something more and to not forget all the strength and courage it took to get Here.
