That is true, my African and Caribbean family and church people told me as if I didn't know, saying don't gain anymore weight, and my mother asked my cousin if she gained weight, that's not acceptable. It's even embarrassing. Everybody should mind their own business.
@MsBrooklyn112328 жыл бұрын
My family is from the Caribbean islands and Caribbean people love to comment on people's weight. If you are heavy they make comments about you and make fun of you, and if you are very skinny they comment on it and make fun of you. I personally don't like it when people comment on my weight because it is a sensitive subject to me. However I agree with Loni, heavy people already know that they are big and skinny people already know that they are small. They do not need you to come up to them and say rude comments about their weight. If a heavy person wants to lose weight that is a decision that they have to make and they will lose weight when there are ready.

These topics are getting redundant. Every topic seems to be along the lines of Adrienne's marriage, self-esteem/weight issues, same-old sex questions, Adrienne's marriage, cheating, rumors, Tamera's kids, Shade segments, and more on Adrienne's marriage. Here's a list of things I believe they should talk about. *Your thoughts on corporal punishment on children. *Pleasing your husband/wife sexually in spontaneous ways. Kind of like what Steve Harvey did on his show. *Colorism in the Black community. *Thoughts on women going shirtless in public. *Dating online advice. Is it a good idea. *Mainstream music of today *Your thoughts on marijuana. *Heck, even the topic, would you move to Mars? (NASA was given the greenlight to send volunteers to live on Mars) would be better. Those are just a few thoughts. Sorry if it's long. 😂

Well back in Africa we are not that sensitive. If u gain weight everyone will tell you about it,they be like "man you've put on some weight,I see you living well" that's when its just a few pounds. When u getting to big they start telling you to hit the gym or do something about it. I used to be very big and my mum will tell me stop eating when she noticed i've had enough. Now she is very big and I gave her money to pay for the gym though she has never done it. It all depends on where i come from but i think people are over sensitive these days.
@LozerChic78 жыл бұрын
there is nothing wrong with being sensitive. I'm kenyan and a lot of my family do that but that's cultural it has nothing to do with being 'insensitive' or too 'sensitive' we are human beings and being empathetic and sensitive is a core part of who we are and it's okay to comment on someone's appearance if it's a friend or family but if they tell you they are uncomfortable you should respect it

Thank you. Being insensitive is actually an abnormality, and sadly in Nigeria we have a lot of people like that. They don't consider your feelings or what you're going through. They just straight up tell you that you've gotten fat. When I was pregnant with my first child , the amount of ppl that kept telling me i've added weight and need to hit the gym was overwhelming. Telling a pregnant woman she is fat and needs to lose weight is extremely inhumane if you ask me.

I will DEFINETLY tell a friend/bf that they're gaining weight because I would want them to tell me. To be honest catching it early at 10-20 pounds is better then letting them be 40-50 pounds overweight and struggling to loose that weight. Then I could offer to work out with them or give them better eating habits. But if I don't tell them and they get huge and hate themselves for it then i'd defiantly will feel partly responsible. Sometimes people know they are gaining weight but you saying something will help them realize that it is NOTICEABLE and they'll be more likely to change it.

When it comes to others i feel like you don't know the reason for their weight. It could be a health reason or medication. You never know. I just say what I feel. As long as your healthy and you feel good about yourself, that's what matters. If you don't, let me know how I can be supportive. As far as telling someone they're getting heavy or too thin, I don't. But then I get yelled at. " omg, I didn't realize i let myself get this far. Why didn't you say anything?!!" I'd rather only say something if you bring it up and start the convo. My family, however, never has a problem critiquing my weight. I'm petite, only 4'11, so when I'm gaining too much, they let me know cuz "too much weight on a short person is not a good look". But I also lose weight quickly, especially if I'm stressed out, and that's when they're like, "stop stressing. Your getting too thin. That's not healthy either". I don't mind cuz I know it's out of concern for my health - either way.

After her constantly doing this I developed a bad body image of myself and even developed an eating disorder, bulimia to be exact, that I’m still fighting 1 year later. I’m trying to stop and love my body for what it is, but it’s really hard, but I don’t want to be bulimic anymore and I just want to love myself. Is anyone going through the same stuff as me?

I think it depends on the person and the situation. If someone gains a noticeable amount of weight in a short time it could be related to some sort of emotional or personal issue and in that case, it's not so much the weight that I'd be concerned about but the cause for the weight gain. I also think a good approach would be to talk about your own weight and goals and then somehow casually ask the person if they want to go walking or jogging with you and make it seem like you just want company.

My mom is naturally rude and intrusive and she'll be negative just from seeing you holding a case of cupcakes. You can spend most months eating light, but one day you buy something like pizza, cupcakes, cake, etc and from that she'll say you're getting fat...really, I just took a bite 2 seconds ago, how does that work mom?! And cupcakes, croissants, breadsticks come in multiples, I don't want just one, so when she sees you eating them throughout the week she says, you need to pull out the scale so you can see the difference, really, there's a difference in 1-2 days mom?! And she'll say, "I can't help you eat it because I'm trying to lose ?pounds", Good, because I didn't ask for your help. I don't gain much weight and she knows it, but she's just naturally judgmental and it's whack. You definitely don't want people like my mom "helping" you are saying anything at all.

I used to always weigh between 115-120, I started college and gained 60 pounds. The worst thing I heard was through a friend, she told me someone had asked her if I was pregnant....I have since lost 50 pounds and counting. Use comments like that as motivation to get you where you want to be at.

Personally I would never EVER bring up something like that, either to a man or a woman. Chances are that they are well aware that they have gained some weight and they either 1) don't care so don't feel like it needs to be addressed, or 2) know that they gained weight and are trying to do something about it but doesn't think there needs to be a conversation.

My family will straight up tell you sometimes my mom well talk about them behind their back and I'm like Mama please have a little respect. Others are sensitive they don't have the same feelings like you do.

I wish my family was supportive... I wasn't obese but just had little rolls at the age of 13 and my sister would never let me wear her bottoms because I would "stretch them out". When I lost a few kilograms (I was 15) and became just a bit underweight my uncle told me "Have you lost weight?" and I said "yeah", he said "Great, you look neat now"..... so what, I wasn't good-looking before???? I need to have bones poking out of my tummy to clasify as fine?

Why is it that the people who say have something about my weight gain are bigger than me! They have a lot of nerve. 😑 Especially when the cause of my weight gain was health problems.

If a person gains like 20 pounds, wouldn't it be better for someone to nicely bring it to their attention and work on it with them if they want to, instead of waiting until they gain 40 pounds and notice it themselves and have twice as much work to do?

It all depends on your intentions & if that person & you have a bond, mutual trust & respect. If not I would be mindful & just mind my business.

I'm naturally skinny, no matter how much I eat I don't gain weight. People always offer me food or dietary advice all the time. I really take offence to that

Some people are in denial about being overweight and don't see it as a problem.

Loni is preaching. Fat people don’t need people to tell them they’re fat? Like this blows my mind that anyone would think they needed to tell someone they’ve gained weight. THEY KNOW.
