I use these often. I like them in wheel and horizontal as well as wall planes. They work quite nicely in rolling weaves to switch from handle to head grip to then steer from the front of the movement. (Think head held barrel rolls, or a sock version of contact or tracing ...) Also fun for direction changes while pirouetting... And your U shaped upstalls on 180s from a decade ago... noice!

And while I appreciate your efforts to logically codify the jargon and attribute gains to early explorers... ... I'm not going to use that term for this.

I love playing with these. I've even seen folks perform a g-catch to form a loop with the tether, then kinda "throw" the other poi through that loop to start a tangle.

This is such a cool trick and definitely have to play around with it. So have to practice this in different timing and direction modes and thank you for sharing this.

Ive always played around with these, but less as something used in performances, and just as ways to get the poi into my hand quickly along with the handle, often when im done using the poi. (Or throwing them out to within 2 inches of a friend's face and pulling the poi right back to scare them) This video has helped a ton to see ways they can used in performances!

Check out the poi dance videos I've been uploading on Sundays for the past couple months--I've been making use of the technique extensively!

I would personally go with g catch. G snatch comes with imagery because of what snatch can meen in my home country and the g string it can come in 😂

It's a good point. I did actually consider calling it a G catch at one point, but thought that G snatch was a little catchier given that it requires fewer glottal stops to pronounce.
