One of the things that made this show popular is that it came out right around the time Pokemon was huge and collect-a-thons were really big at the time, both in Pokemon and Nintendo 64 platformers like Banjo-Kazooie. So the built in premise of the show, unintentionally, made it mirror Pokemon's success in "collecting them all" and getting badges. Only with the show, it was talismans and secret doors and boss fights and such. That's why I loved the show so much as a kid; the hook was perfect, at the time.

That's always struck me as odd considering that the slogan "gotta catch 'em all" was coined by someone who had nothing to do with the creation of the games or franchise in general (Norman Grossfeld of 4Kids). I see what you mean about Jade. Like Scrappy (who never bothered me either), she’s a surrogate for us: finds all this stuff cool despite the danger and wants to join in stopping the bad guys. The difference is Jade is able to deal with bad guys her own way on several occasions where as far as I can remember, Scrappy was always overpowered, which is the only thing about him that did piss me off. The writers always made Scrappy as weak as Snarf despite his bravery on the few occasions he actually got to fight instead of Shaggy or Velma snatching him up before he could do anything, ruining his character. They should have made him more like Muscles Mouse (Jerry’s cousin) in Tom & Jerry or the rabbit in Monty Python & the Holy Grail instead. No wonder he became the main villain in the Scooby Doo movie as he was done with everyone’s shit. Someone even made a fanfic of JCA which did a similar thing as the scooby doo movie, with Jade becoming Shadowkhan Queen again. I’ve not actually read it though. Anyway, I really enjoy how Jade was handled better than Scrappy was and she’s one of the best characters besides Uncle, Tohru & Jackie himself.

So when you were talking about how to activate the talisman in episode 4, i don't have the definite answer but i believe i do know I don't remember every episode, but in a later season, the bad guy henchmen have the snake talisman, while they're driving away in a truck. One of them has the idea to put it in the cassette player (or something similar, i don't remember) and it turns the truck invisible (but not the people). This leads me to believe that applying pressure to the talisman is simply enough to activate the powers, and it turned the statue of liberty invisible because the toes gave it enough pressure Also not even spoiler worthy in case anyone wonders. Assuming my memory is correct, its like a 10 second gag that doesn't have any major impact on the episode

I was gonna explain the sheep meaning, but I saw that was taken care of. I think I can explain pig, though. I think one of the best comedic decisions of this series was allowing every character good or bad to have this humility threshold where they stop fighting and say "woah chill out, someone might actually get hurt." Scenes like everyone loosing it when jade knocks out the pilot are both hilarious and humanizing.

That’s definitely a big reason why this show worked so well, and in part why Jackie Chan stood out the way he did in the US. I wouldn’t say I’m a marvel fan, but its explosion in popularity in the 2010s was in part because superhero stuff was very stoic, but they combined action with pauses for comedy, like you said

@@Colby2D Yeah I'd argue he was one of the main inspirations for a lot newer age movies. His comedy feels like the consequence of being a stunt man; having fun, but checking in to see if he pulled his punches well enough. 22:41 the astral projecting sheep thing is because it is common to "count sheep" to help you fall asleep, which is also the state someone astral projecting would externally appear as doing. Pkus fluffy wool = clouds, and clouds also connect to sleeping

Thank you for covering one of my favorite series. Here’s a few things that some people don’t realize about this show. 1. The show does very good foreshadowing like you pointed out Jackie in 1 episode mentions about the free doughnuts and when tohru wants to help after the shendu incident he was asked why do you want to help and he mentions what Jackie told him a few episodes before. There is also no such thing as filler in this series because characters that you don’t think would show up again do in either continuing episodes or seasons plots. 2. The series has a lot of Easter eggs and homages to Jackie’s career. From episode titles, to stunts, fights, etc. Hell his archeologists outfit is based of his movie armor of god.
@Colby2D6 ай бұрын
I didn’t know the archaeologist outfit was a reference, that’s really cool! I’ve heard some of the specific fights are references to movies, but I haven’t seen enough of his movies to recognize a lot of them yet! Thanks for checking this out

With the car thing Jackie did is it so unbelievable because he did them all at the same time? Because in the shot you see both his feet so we can assume he opened the doors doing the splits and kicking them open. Then he jumped up through the already open sunroof. Both are things that he can physically do.
@Colby2D6 ай бұрын
I thought it looked like his legs would’ve had to be a bit longer to do the split, but I guess with enough force he could just kick them open and not have to open the doors with his feet lol
