You'll find most sea shanties are pretty catchy. That was the whole point of a shanty, to get the crew working together in rythmic motion on a specific task. There are different types of shanty for different tasks aboard a sailing ship - short haul shanties, halyard shanties, pumping shanties, capstan shanties etc.

Ok, so this song is amazing and all the singers and musicians who joined in are just incredible, but to be honest, my absolute favorite version is when it's just the group of guys up until 0:24. Not to say that any of the other singers were bad, but I just like it when the guys' voices come together in that deep harmonizing way, and the higher-pitched voice the girl at 0:25 adds to it, while great-sounding, doesn't have the same effect that just gives me that mystical sound of those deeper-voiced men harmonizing so perfectly. She gave it a different feel, more like a song out of a Disney Musical, while the first one transports me right onto an old ship swapping the deck with my fellow crewmates

Tonguing actually refers to the butchering of a whale. When they say, “one day when the tonguing is done, we’ll take our leave and go” refers to taking a cut of meat, leaving the dried husk of the whale, and taking the tea, sugar, and rum as payment

At fairs it's not uncommon to find someone belting out a sea shanty. Give it 5 minutes or less and 10 people who don't know each other join in. I hope that after Coronavirus that these folks start a Kickstarter to all meet up and record some songs. I love the idea that they've created something so beautiful together, without even knowing each other. But I'd love to see them get a chance to meet and laugh and hug. I'm not crying, you're crying.
