My parents brought me and my sisters down to freshwater holiday park (just along from west bay) many times when we were young and that bread such a love of the area that I had to live down this way one day. Lucky for me we made it happen 7 years ago. I thought it was only me but both my sisters have followed me down here. Clearly there is something special about this part of the world. It's not just me

You are so lucky to live there. I have always loved the sea, especially the Dorset area.@@JoeCoastal

Hi Joe, loved this video. I have subscribed 😊ive really learnt a lot, we travel to westbay every year, we stay at Freshwater Holiday Park, and you've shared extra info I never knew ,thank you 😊

Thanks. I'm pleased you enjoyed it. Freshwater was how I discovered the area. My parents took me there as a kid. Still my favourite caravan park but I don't stay there much these days as I only live up the road in Weymouth.

Going there week after next to the parkdean place,can't wait 👍

Never actually stayed on that site but it's hard perfect place to explore from. Hope you get some decent weather.

@@JoeCoastal to be honest I'm not too worried, just looking forward to getting away,my missus suffers from anxiety and going to the coast is her perfect calming place. We own a caravan at a parkdean site at great Yarmouth so get 25 percent off all other parks! 👍. We're hiring out for the first time this year,done really well
@JoeCoastal Жыл бұрын
@paulshorney3465 Then I'm sure you'll have a great time. We have a cousin with a parkdean caravan so I know about that discount. Just a little heads up. The Dorset echo website says something about a walkway being closed around the harbour. I can't even find it now an I doubt it will effect your holiday but thought I should mention it

A nice video, the pier at West Bay was built using over 1700 tonnes of steel sheet piling...
@JoeCoastal Жыл бұрын
Is that just the new extension?
@timdavies4679 Жыл бұрын
It was the new pier and the harbour, the sheet piles were rolled in Corus' Scunthorpe mills and the pier was constructed by the main contractor Costain. A lot of the piles were Larssen 6 and upto an inch thick. One night during a very heavy storm in West Bay the strong waves snapped the steel in half...

Hello Joe, and thank you for this beautiful video and the history lesson 😊 I have heard about the cliff falls here, and it is obviously dangerous to be strolling on the beach below. I believe the coastal path above has been moved a bit inland too...?
@JoeCoastal Жыл бұрын
From what I can see the coast path still follows the edge. I know it was moved temporarily after a previous land slip but there are no diversion signs and I climbed to the top of East Hill for some clips and it all seemed normal. People were walking past me towards Burton Bradstock anyway.
@TravellingTorunn Жыл бұрын
@@JoeCoastal That is great 🙂 But I wouldn't trust the edges now after several cliff falls the last few years.
@JoeCoastal Жыл бұрын
I understand what you're saying but the path does run far enough away from the edge that I'd still trust it. Also the coast path association usually know if a section needs closing. They always err on the side of caution. I trust their decision too. I definitely wouldn't choose to wander too close underneath the cliff though.
@TravellingTorunn Жыл бұрын
@@JoeCoastal I agree. I totally trust the SWCP Association and am sure the paths are in a safe distance from the sheer drops and danger👍😊 But some people are daredevils and want to sit on the edge 🤪😊
@JoeCoastal Жыл бұрын
Yes. You won't find me doing that though ✋️
