Academic and former diplomat Kishore Mahbubani is the author of the provocative book “Has the West Lost It?”. The answer, he says, "is no or not yet. But I fear the West is about to lose it." Find out what the Asian century and the rise of China mean for Switzerland-and the world.

I grown up in 80's in a small town in China, called ZhongGuan Village, when China was poor (it is still poor in my opinion because I have high expectation for my country). I did admire American and European life style and richness when I was a kid, and I acknowledge that the US is the most powerful dominant country in the world. I am totally fine and indifferent letting the US or any country be the No. 1. But the point is, I never feel shameful or bothered about "we are poor now or we are no longer No.1". I never thought about this No.1 issue. I know a little about Chinese history, and I know our goal and our historical position in this world. The history of our civilization and culture give me confidence and a peace of mind. I will just do my part of work, be a decent civilized individual, as best as a Chinese can do, then our nation will be what it supposed to be, I don't care who is the No. 1, and everyone in this world deserve a better life, that's for sure.

Kishore is a gentleman who says things logically but very tenderly and try not to offend. But I will retranslate. Because the West fails to confront the fact that just because you are born white, you do not earn the right of superiority. If the West fails to confront the superiority mentality, they will see the rise of China as a Yellow Peril of 12 Century. The worst mental block comes from the Angelo Saxon nations. If the mental block continues, it will lead to war. Kishore and other like minded scholars such as Martin Jacques are trying their best to avert the catastrophic event by talking to the wall.

I have seen various aspects of the very old chinese cultures and intellectual systems. Would it not be a useful thought that there is a form of Chinese pluralism all of which happens "under the heaven" and is utterly complex, and that further thoughtful increase of such pluralism would create a buffer zone, where the adverse western minds can cool down and walk millions of miles, exhausting their crave of superiority? The Western mind is curious and nosy. If it becomes interested enough, it will walk a million exciting paths. To create this effect, soft power is required. But the powers of supremacy cannot be other than centrist. They will have to enforce their centrism on their own minds, that became aware of an exciting, diverse and multipolar world. This will become a very interesting contradiction.

@@neovxr Thoughts on utopia is interesting. However the world is not flat from the Western point of view. Freedom Democracy and Equality are all sugar coatings to the human weakness. The jaundice view that the West sees is racial stratified world. Racial purification is the underlying philosophy for the Nazis and still in the DNA of the West. G7 AUKUS and the Five Eye Nations are all about the color of White.

@@estchu You are right, it exists, but a remarkable number of "white" people do not want it, or never wanted that, and they do not believe that they are "owned" by their race or nation and by their elites as if they were cattle. Many leaders and journalists are riding on the vehicle of race (today more in the culturalist way), but at the same time hide behind idealist preachings. One of the contradictions the West is crashing into, exists right within the "judeo-christian" paradigm, that had been used also as a colonial tool box, including domestic colonization of their own. But with what is happening in Ukraine, I am expecting a major falling-out. Remember history, it was among allegedly white ethnicities. i am supporting a multipolar world. I want to reveal that the "West-Supremacy" full with hypocritic preachings of equality and rule based order, is on its way to fall back into White Supremacy. This insight is important and has aspects that are not trivial. It helps to deconstruct the official rationale. It is not even understood by most Westerners.

We don’t have any colonies, we don’t have a caste system, we don’t, as China does, kill millions of its own citizens who think outside of the box. Aside from the comparison of JFK versus Beijing airports as a sign of modern development, it also shows in their infrastructures, China has high speed trains throughout its country while USA is running their outdated slow trains. Confucianism is also a state philosophy propagated by monarchs to control the populace. During the warring state periods, authoritarianism was systemic and largely down to the highly authoritarian past of the Zhou and Shang dynasties. One beget another as leaders copied each other's meticulous methods of complete control. Chinese warlords and kings have always been power hungry and never wanted to share power. This is fact from history. The only forward thinking Chinese is Sun Yat Sen. That's it. The rest of you are just communist Marxist loving bastards. Which is of course a German's ideal, not really a Chinese one at all. Leftist, freedom hating, Stockholm syndrome robots that hate religion and diversity. Marxism itself wants control and control over the family and the mind of men. You can shove that poisonous garbage back I your own country because it's not convincing the intellectuals in the west.

His 200+ large ships feet had 20,000 crews. The largest ship's width was longer than the length of Columbus' 3-ship fleet Santa Maria which was the fastest. China might have such a long history with all these dynasties, but the US is the only country in the world that has outpaced and out grew any other country in the world in such a short period of time. Make it clear, Europe was once conquered by Mongolian, not Chinese, and even earlier by the Turks. China was attacked and ruled by Turks and Mongolian as well, but pacified and mingled by Chinese civilization, not militarily. So Chinese is no menace to world peace historically or even now. Rather it is a stabilizing stone to world peace and progress. So far, battles fought by Chinese in the past 80 years were with the US only. Whereas the wars in the past 100 years found the involvement of the US. Who is the devil, you judge!

Also America literally supported Mao to win the battle against Generalissimo Chiang and helped finally kick the Japanese out of the entire Asian continent and pacific. Without the intervention Japan would have a Long term foothold on China to this very day. You are all looking at America with rose tinted lenses. Yes there have been bad presidents and many of them are but Trump on the other hand wants to end all the wars and is the first populist choice since Eisenhower and the first good President since JFK. Americans generally have good will to her trade partners and are always willing to grow and prosper together. psychology is an inner process of the individual, and it can become collective via known social and instinctive mechanisms. we have to make a strong distinction from public morals and ideology, which is the creation of an environment by the few. the worry should be about the american moralist system that wants to define china as evil, for the purpose to not allow its growth. then, ideology is being used to create some logic backup for this strategic will and definition. then further, the connection between religion and the state apparatus and its elites wants to inject a religious interpretation that also confirms that china ostensibly has to be seen as an evil danger, threatening the judeo-christian value system.
