The book pretty much described how they acted when harnessing Saidar and casting the elements. And that's definitely not what she's doing here. The other commenter is right, this looks more apt for an Avatar Airbender movie than WoT. The spell casting in "Doctor Strange" movies is more apt for the Aes Sedai IMO.

I think as a show it has a lot more to offer. But I feel people don't give enough credit for this scene alone. Personally I think it's one of the if not the best spell casting scene in any fantasy film or series. I like how slow channeling each spell take, also her movement is so graceful. Magic is so powerful, but it puts the channellers in such a vulnerable state to even cast the spell, which makes the synergy between her and her ward that much more awesome. Also I like how each spell she casts is stronger than the one before, but it's not too ridiculous either, considering she's quite powerful you can tell the limitation. I think it's just something you don't quite see when it involves magic or super powers.

She certainly is not drawing in the sheer amount of raw power that was channeled by others at the end of season 1. However, even with the limited amount she could channel, Moiraine's skill in Weaving Saidar with that many elemental affinities is incredible! She is Aes Sedai, and her skill in weaving the One Power is amongst the best of the Sisters in the White Tower.
@jefferymuter4659 Жыл бұрын
I haven't seen the show. Still reading the books. But I was curious to see the special effects of a weave. My favorite was how she used so many of the building's stones. It was the only real weapon around. My guess is it was the lowest cost, compared to constantly using fire or lightning. But you could definitely imagine the villagers blaming her as much as the Trollecks for the damage, as she destroyed so many buildings in her casting. The slowness of it was very beautiful as well. I could imagine weaving to be so experiential, so present, that it would be like a drug to use. Beautifully well done in sparking that through the visuals.

Its ironic to me that Moiraine isnt a member of the Green Ajah, who are trained as warriors, yet shows this wide variety of offensive attacks given that during the battle with Logain's army, none of the Green Ajah show nearly this level of skill. The most we see are them generating explosions.
@draconicon2 Жыл бұрын
Moiraine is very good, but at the same time, there's a certain awareness of your surroundings required. In the battle with Logain's army, the Green were limited. If you conjured fire or lightning or something like that in a forest, you're going to be setting the whole thing on fair. The trees cut the number of air blasts that they could use with those weaves. Water might have been of some use, but limited. So, earth-blasts of the sort they did was their best option, strategy-wise. And they were doing it MUCH faster than Moiraine's fireballs and lightning. That said, even I'll admit that it's justifying some of the shortcomings of that fight, good as it was.
@shauntempley9757 Жыл бұрын
You will find out why Moiraine and the other Aes Sedai that fought Logain's army behaved differently.
@aylinpatacsil846 Жыл бұрын
There are actually a lot of examples in the Books. Why Moiraine is better than a lot of Greens and why most Greens suck. But it's mostly because 90% of Greens just think they are warriors. They rarely have real battle experience cloistered in the Tower, while Moiraine is out there learning dirty songs in some seedy underground tavern.
@ShallowSedai Жыл бұрын
She spent 20 years traveling the world looking for the Dragon Reborn. Many Aes Sedai stick to the tower. In traveling she likely encountered many skills from wilders etc. who often have their own way of channeling and own secret weaves. Also, Moiraine's level in the power is in the top 5% of the Aes Sedai introduced at this point in the story; much higher than many, and so there a lot of Green who don't have the power level to create the weaves Moiraine can.
@luismadrid8526 Жыл бұрын
At this point in the story, Moiraine is considered exceptionally powerful among the Aes Sedai. Among the active Aes Sedai, only Siuan and Elaida (not introduced in the series yet) can compare to her. Moiraine herself admits that she has some considerable skill in offensive weaves and healing (so she most certainly could have been a Green or a Yellow, if she so desired). But she chose Blue!
@ShadowRiderxx100 Жыл бұрын
It just bugs me that afterward the Two Rivers folks were so ungrateful for her help here especially Rand even when she'd just saved his dad. Moraine''s the best character of this show and she gets so little appreciation from basically every other character sans Lan.
@jeffreyeshbach9372 Жыл бұрын
That’s because Aes Sedai are highly untrusted in the world of WoT. They are seen as manipulators and mistrusted because of their secretive nature. A huge theme throughout the entire book series is that people both fear and hate the Aes Sedai for how they operate. But, also in the book, there’s only a small group of people who are hostile to Moiraine after the Winters Night events and eventually apologize for their actions after they are chided by the Mayor and Moiraine tells a story about the honorable history of the Two Rivers. Guess the show runners just figured it was better to cut that scene for other stuff.

Eh, I hate when magic is reduced to simple telekinesis. That isn't magic or fantasy. It's sci-fi. It's also lazy. You're telling me with the millions per episode they spent on this show they couldn't make some decent goddamn fireballs? Or freezing ice? Nope. Moraine throws rocks. Yawn.

They have blamed the pandemic as the reason why the FX were so underwhelming, and apparently it will be better in S2.

@@ingGS They had millions of dollars an episode in S1, and given the unbelievably bad effects in RoP, I doubt WoT is getting any better.

The weaving system of WOT is one of the most intricate magic systems in fantasy but they screwed up this show on epic proportions, didn’t stick to source material at all.

This is the best magic showdown we've seen in ages. No recent mage like the Red Woman nor Gandalf unleashed so much magic in a fight. You must be crazy.
