Do you know what that means? Ishamael joined Satan because he calculated that mankind will have to fight forever in order to keep the Dark One in his prison, but the Dark One himself will have to win only once. Also, Ishamael led the drilling of the Bore, which he did because of math. That means that the universe was almost wiped out due to MATH!! THAT SUBJECT IS EVIL!!!!!!!!!

Watched this to get my hyped on the series around this time last year. Today I finally cracked “Memory of Light” and although I don’t regret reading the series it’s felt like 73833936393927 pages of posturing and boring political talk and maybe 1000 pages that had me pumping my fist or super engaged. This lore that wot starts with is so intriguing but now, near the end, I feel like it hasn’t lived up to what I expected. That being said I still have about 900 pages to go on memory of light and I’m sure lots is going to happen so I should shut up. Hoping it all comes together fantastically. - a first time reader.

@@chicodepuertorico1450 I think I read this book series almost a decade ago. Such good memories. A very beautiful and intricately created world. Sadly, the author had reduced the series to something of a gossip mag towards the end. I remember that at around book 10-ish still there was no sign of the final battle I think. Frankly speaking, if the same author had continued the series , it would have had a very lame ending. Fortunately, one of my favourite authors of all time took up the mantle of finishing this book , and damn did he do a fine job. I understand that much of the plan was previously chalked up, but I am sure if it were upto the original author , the series would have continued till book 20-30 maybe. Speaking of Sanderson , the sheer change that he brought about to the series i.e, the last books , is just mind-blowing . It was like waiting for a hundred years to see a lotus bloom , and in the end the bloom was so beautiful that it makes the long wait all the more worthwhile. If you have time , always check out his other books. Although kindof predictable but the books are amazing. The very peak of Western e-fantasy literature in my opinion.

I'm rusty on my lore, but there are moments where you follow Lews Therin during the beforetimes, or just visions that one or more of the main characters have where they experience the world as it was, complete with what basically amount to laser weapons and flying cars. It definitely touches on what a high technology + high magic society might be like, but only in very brief glimpses and I seem to recall it being done pretty tastefully.

@@nich479 wow I read that and then went to the part about Glass Columns. If you survive entering the columns, you come out with a dragon tattoo. A character named Rand exits the columns with two. So. A character named Rand, enters into a "mystical realm" (memory bank of the ancestors), confronts a dragon (the truth about the ancestors) and comes out with 2 dragon tattoos. Is this an Iron Fist cameo? True, he only has one dragon tattoo, but he comes out with 2 iron fists. Nice

I haven't read the books, but I'm loving the Amazon show. So I just watched this video (spoiler-free for the series, but to get lots of backstory for the world itself). Then I just re-watched the opening narration of Ep 1 of the Amazon show. It's amazing how Moiraine's narration sums up this whole video beautifully in 30 seconds--from a very female Aes Sedai point of view ("Men who were born with great power thought they could cage darkness itself--the arrogance.") Hearing that line now that I have the whole story sent chills up my spine! Watching the Ep 1 opening again AFTER seeing this video was so cool! Thank you, Daniel!

Daniel, I really appreciate your work, but please reconsider what you think of as a spoiler. This video is full of them and completely demystifies the Forsaken and the Age of Legends (Ages in general) for the reader. I don’t know, maybe you’ve read the books so many times it’s not obvious to you anymore. From the first-time reader perspective this information would spoil a lot of fun from discovering this from the books. It doesn’t matter if you don’t give away any of the main plot if so much lore is being revealed ahead of time. I know a lot of it is in the World of the Wheel of Time book, but not everyone would start from this either. For example I despaired to know what the Sharom is from book 4 (I’m at 11 now). Even if I would have no hope of Jordan actually explaining this in the main books, it still held the air of mystery. Not if I’d watch this video first. Or the True Power. Or Ishamael’s motives… Please, reconsider removing the ‘no spoiler’ or at least label it as ‘lore spoilers’, it will be more truthful.

First of Mayene's claim to be direct descendants of Artur Hawkwing, but nobody in-universe treats it seriously, and IIRC even the glossaries included with in the back of the books treat the claim as dubious as well. Also, I'm pretty sure Hawkwing didn't have any heirs that remained in the Westlands. It'd be awfully foolish of Ishamael to leave behind a legitimate heir of Hawkwing who could potentially keep humanity unified until the Last Battle.

FYI, there is no "creator." The Wheel is formed by the rotation of vibration, not by an anthropomorphic creator separate from the creation. The vibration of uncreated creation is the light and dark, and the light and dark do not fight each other. The whole idea of light and dark being at war is ignorance and perversion. The Wheel is the spinning of light and dark and the wheel would cease to turn if there was no light or no dark, that is, if light or dark "won" a war against the other, then the Wheel would be destroyed.

This was truly the history of the latest rotation of the Wheel. Well done! I was expecting some more cultural stuff that are relevant in the Two Rivers, but that is more current history than overarching history. The false Dragons were not mentioned and they would really drive home the point of male channelers being bad news. Could also be good to mention that under Hawkwing's rule the majority of the world was seriously doubting the intentions of the White Tower while acknowledging their use in battle against the shadow and male channelers. 2 small things I suspect would improve the ending and giving a very easy start for new readers. They'll have the prologue with the creation of Dragonmount and then the gossip from Padan Fain, the travelling peddler, would be more impactful. Was a bit surprised that Ba'alzamon was never mentioned and a few spoilers snuck in. With the way you phrased the story Ba'alzamon was able to be ignored.

I want to point out that the Dark One is a part of the Wheel of Time. Its a part of nature, the opposing and pulling part of Light. When Lanfear bore a hole in the fabric of space and time to access the True Power, The Dark One was torn away form the Pattern. Still part of the Pattern but independent on its own will, its own design. So yes, it was all Lanfear's fault. What Rand did was weave the Dark One back into the Pattern like it originally was. He realized it was part of existence and destroying it would make the world out of balance.

A few things. I don't think it's ever established 'when' the Dark One came into existence, just that at the instant of Creation, it was sealed away. It might predate the Wheel. Also, there's some suggestion the Ogier weren't linked to the Stedding originally, but only needed to remain there after the Breaking occurred. There's mention that the Ogier were originally from another world, and came to this one in the Age of Legends. Also, not all Treesingers were Ogier.

Until the end of book 3 however, we are led to believe that the one with that description is the dark one (I watched the video a few chapters away from finishing The Dragon Reborn, and this confused me quite a bit!). At the end of the book moreover, it is only brought as a hypothesis that Rand killed a forsaken instead of Shai'tan. There were some eras that you skipped over. You didn't give any sense of the passage of time during the 3rd age. It was 3000 years since the breaking. The establishment of the Confederacy of the Ten Nations is an important preamble to the Trolloc Wars. Judging by the ruins of Aridhol, humanity had rebuilt a society nearing the wonders of the age of legends, only to have it ripped apart and begin again. It was a long slow recovery to Hawkwing's empire 1000 years after that. Other than the missing time scale and the overarching story of humanity in decline, I thought you did a good job. I would like to see the Ogier maps of the world over time as an animation showing the rise and fall of nations during the 3rd age.

Well, it took 25 years, but I finally finished Robert Jordan’s THE WHEEL OF TIME. This epic 14-book (15, if you count the prequel NEW SPRING) fantasy series pays homage to J.R.R. Tolkien’s THE LORD OF THE RINGS and then surpasses it in every conceivable manner by its sheer ambition, world-building, lore, magic systems, characters, and representation (it has women, something even Tolkien’s imagination couldn’t conceive of). While it’s doing the series an incredible disservice to simply sum it up in one sentence, if I had to do it, it would likely read as such - imagine if someone told you that you were not only born to save the world but destroy it as well. Of course, I'd be remiss if I didn't address the underlying theme of THE WHEEL OF TIME which is if a "chosen one" or "son of God" were to ever return to Earth, we as human beings would likely try everything in our power to politically manipulate him. Kinda depressing, but true if you think about it. At 14 books, getting into THE WHEEL OF TIME may seem daunting, and I won’t lie to you, Books 7 through 10 are going to be a real slog. While the series has the overall arc of good vs evil, the series works best when each book has its own self-contained quest. This is probably why the first three or four books read so easily before Jordan falls a little too in love with his own world. But the final three books are absolutely exhilarating and likely have something to do with the fact that Brandon Sanderson took over when Jordan passed away after completing Book 11. But the ultimate payoff is so worth it. I understand Amazon is turning this into a TV series, which is probably the best way to go as I can’t imagine summing up one of these 1000-page tomes into a single feature film.

Great job, but there is one thing that I think you start to talk about and then sort of dropped: the time scale. The Breaking was 1000 years before the Trolloc wars, and War of 100 Years was 1000 years after that, and current events are 1000 years after that. The way you cut the video made it seem like these events were right on top of each other, when actually vast tracks of time occur between each major war where more knowledge from the Age of Legends is lost, more secrets are buried, and people forget about the Shadow.
