@@tylerlewis6813 Many experts think the wheel probably wasn't invented until we'd successfully domesticated dray animals already, probably for thousands of years. How eager would *you* be to invent a cart if you have to pull the damn thing? AFAIK, we'd long been using animals to pull carts when someone brilliantly realized how cheap human labour was when you didn't have to pay the workers and invented the wheelbarrow, and not very long ago, 3 or 4k years ago IIRC. It's a different story when you can make an ox do the work, or a horse, or a donkey, or even a big dog, especially if you don't have slaves/serfs. Lots of human societies had no use for the wheel (and didn't have them as such as a result), and they all lacked creatures suited to drawing a cart (due to the lack of available dray animals in those regions). The wheel isn't universal by any means! That said, most cultures didn't have doors period afaik, hanging cloth/strings weren't unusual I gather, but that's not a door. A house in many places might have one door in it, the front one, so you can lock it. Doors are very common now, but that's probably because they are super-cheap to make at this point.

Well that may be true, but then there are also SO MANY non-building things that have doors. I take your apartment and raise you a tanker. Just 1 solitary tanker can have around 20,000 doors. Also you may be using a more loose definition for what constitutes a wheel than your definition for what constitutes a door. It's all subjective based on your own interpretation of the dictionary definition of wheel and door or your generic definition of what we should mean when we say wheel like vs door like objects. If we go by the dictionary definition then a wheel is a circular object that revolves on an axle and is fixed below a vehicle or other object to enable it to move easily over the ground. If it moves over a surface that isn't the ground ( i.e a solid surface of the earth ), or it isn't currently affixed to an axle ( i.e spare tire ), or it isn't below the object then it isn't a wheel. that means I have zero wheels in my house. A door is a hinged, sliding, or revolving barrier at the entrance to a building, room, or vehicle, or in the framework of a cupboard. that means I have 12 doors, which is 12 more doors than wheels. However if I just say anything that is wheel like in design and purpose, i.e it is a circular object that revolves on an axis for smoother movement which is closer to what people actually think of as a wheel then my number goes from 0 to 24 and includes toys, chairs, and luggage. Now I have 24 wheels and only 12 doors. However if I If I also use a very loose definition of a door as any hinged, sliding or revolving barrier that can be opened and closed, then the number goes from 12 to..... well let's just say I stopped counting in the 40's. this now includes windows, draws, toys, storage containers and my washing machine. Of course you may say, well a draw is a draw not a door, but a draw is a sliding barrier that can be opened and closed, so it is essentially a type of door, as is a window. In the end our differing results may have nothing to do with our math and everything to do with our terms.

The debate depends on the definition of wheel, as there are wheels in everything, idler wheels, belt tensioner, conveyor belts, pin bearing (each pin could be defined as a wheel), childrens toys, gears could be called interlocking wheels, etc. I've counted my door vs wheel ratio and it's far in the wheel direction, before I've even factored in all the different weirder defined wheels. Mind you, I do live in my van, lol.

Absolutely. If you factor toys into the discussion there are WAY more wheels than doors. For every toy car, the doors don't open and you have at least four wheels. Lego wheels, kinex wheels, hot wheels, etc. Even toy houses and things are usually open concept without really any doors built in. Drawers have wheels, vacuum cleaners have wheels, roller skates/blades have at least four per shoe, the little wheels that spin your microwave plate, bicycles, motorcycles, four wheelers, tricycles, snow tires for about half the world, steering wheels, carriage wheels. I dunno man. Seems pretty cut and dried to me. Tldr; if we're counting ALL wheels, not just cars, it's gotta be more wheels than doors.

Gears, cogs, locking mechanisms, dials, flywheels, almost any application of a technology that requires physical rotation is an application of the wheel. There is 1 door to get in & I have 1 cupboard door. I used a lift/elevator with who knows how many wheels & 1 door in order to get up here. There are hundreds of rooms in my accommodation. How is this a debate? Lol.

It's gotta be doors. My thought was that with all the cars in the world, it's gotta be wheels but then I remember the vast majority of cars have doors also. With more buildings than cars and a bunch of doors inside buildings, it's quite simple. Gotta be doors. Big doors, tiny doors, doors on machines and equipment. But is an elevator 2 doors on each floor or 1 door?

Trucks can have 14 wheels but only 2 doors. Every shopping cart has wheels and no doors. Then there are toy cars that have no doors but 4 wheels. Bikes also have wheels and no doors, and there are a billion bikes and 200 million motor bikes. Then there are quad bikes with 4 wheels and no doors. There are way more wheels that go unnoticed then doors, so much so that people forget that many doors have wheels
