Oh look! It's one of the greatest live performances of any song in the history of recorded sound.

And they have yet to build an amplifier loud enough for it.

An utterly perfect piece of explosive, inspiring and wild stuff. I can think of nothing more spot on. Geniuses all, the Who nailed it for me, and forever.

This is the greatest live drumming album of all time.

Keith Moon had this Unique ability to play as both a Lead and Rythmn Drummer. By constantly crashing the Cymbals, Moon created a Rythmic sound or pattern to go along with, what I would call, his Lead Fills and Grooves, which would periodically change throughout any particular Who song. Some people would say it's a sloppy way to play and not technically correct. I find it to be incredibly brilliant. And these 2 songs together are a perfect example of that brilliance. That's why I consider Moon to be the best.

What can you say? One of the greatest musical forces ever. Glad we all got to enjoy this for 50 +.
@Belano19116 жыл бұрын
It's hard to believe that there are only three guys playing instruments and one guy singing. This full , rich , powerful , sound seems like there at least twice that number. This has to be the greatest rock album of all time and it will certainly never equalled in it's sheer force and virtuosity.

Awesome interplay between the musicians, best live album by an English mile.

Agreed. I've heard several live albums and this one's the best especially in its current 2 disc format of over 2 hours with Tommy performed nearly in its entirety (though Roger and Pete have said they did it better in 1969 because it hadn't gotten tiring for them by that point but man do they kick ass with this tune!). I've never heard a band come across so amazingly electric and savagely powerful and all with just vocals, one electric guitar, drums and bass guitar. A testament to the Who!

Moon would take Pete's seemingly simple songs and make them more interesting with variations on his fills. The whole band worked really well together, given that they were all almost on completely different pages most of the time. Some live Who I cannot even listen to and some is just sublime. That's why they remain interesting after so many years.

Moon could be subtle and powerful, sometimers seemingly at the same time. His instincts would have fit in with the best symphonic orchestras just as his drumming fit in with the best live band of all time...

dlanodrelda SYMPHONIC!!!The EXACT word I've used to describe Keith Moon 🌙!!
@johnoberle97503 жыл бұрын
Keith didn’t know how good he was. Always shunned by the traditional law of drumming. Guy was Eddie Van Halen and Jimi Hendrix of the drums.
@carlweaver32432 жыл бұрын
Moon would go off on a Tangent alot of the time but in a good way that was still true the song. He also had enough sense to reel it in when needed.

4:18 - 4:37...awesome Entwistle solo. Subtle and tasteful, like most of his baselines of this era

Keith was on it during Amazing Journey/Sparks....no one yet has even come close to being as instinctive or as rapid yet & he's been dead 40 yrs...The Who was my first concert at 14 in '71...

I am not worthy...my first concert was Steppenwof in 71 then 3 Dog night..Saw the ooo in 82 sans Moon

I envy you that my friend, The Who at 14. My first was Jethro Tull, April of 1971, when I was late 13.

One of my favorite song(s) on the Tommy LP. However, this live version is just in another stratosphere. Truthfully though, I have yet to hear a live rendition of this that doesn't sound great. They had this uncanny ability to sound beautiful, yet dangerous at the same time. Just an outstanding group at a time when they were peerless as a live act and we're still waiting for someone to come along to do it better.

It you were unfortunate to never have witnessed this band play live in their hay day, you truly missed something special and exciting.

This fit so perfectly on the expanded "Live At Leeds" in 1995. The best choice from their "Tommy" set that night.

My first concert ever...June 7th 1970 New York Metropolitan Opera House. I was 12. Every time I hear this album I go back in time to that night. The power of powerful music...

Keith Moon is awesome but also Johns basslines are amazing jeez!

@pilesovinyl I totally agree. Moon was the ultimate in controlled chaos.. he could open up the energy, yet he let the song breathe on it's own. He had a great orchestral sense, really.

Saw them play this in Cork in 2007, even without Keith and John it was still fantastic. With them though it's from another planet.

Saw em at "the Boston Tea Party", Lansdown Street I think, in 1969 just after Woodstock. I was 15-20 feet from stage, place only held 1500. Moon was COSMIC! and that doesn,t do it justice or even close to it. He was playing lead....Townsend was following him!!! I can still picture every moment.....WOW

Deaf, dumb and blind boy He's in a quiet vibration land Strange as it seems His musical dreams Ain't quite so bad Ten years old With thoughts as bold As thought can be Loving life and becoming wise In simplicity Sickness can surely take the mind Where minds can't usually go Come on the amazing journey And learn all you should know A vague haze of delirium Creeps up on me All at once a tall stranger I suddenly see He's dressed in a silver-sparked Glittering gown And his golden beard flows Nearly down to the ground Nothing to say, and nothing to hear And nothing to see Each sensation makes a note In my symphony Sickness can surely take the mind Where minds can't usually go Come on the amazing journey And learn all you should know His eyes are the eyes That transmit all they know Sparkle warm crystalline glances to show That he is your leader And he is your guide On the amazing journey together you'll ride

The WHO - Great live band, one of the few bands that sound great live. Live at Leeds 1970
@learnthroughmusicandlyrics63615 жыл бұрын
What is interesting about this rendition of Amazing Journey/Sparks from Live At Leeds is that it was remastered for CD release on the compact disc edition of Live At Leeds from 1995--featuring 14 tracks including this one. However, it would not be until 2001 when The Who's live performance of Tommy in its entirety at their landmark concert at London's Leeds University in 1970, would make it onto CD. And yes, "Amazing Journey-Sparks" is my favorite song from Tommy. :)

@jamesgroome30725 жыл бұрын
They may have disliked it cause there was a pitch problem in the video not the band. idk. You never know what people are thinking though; but yea I found that there's something wrong with how they put it on here. The song itself is brilliant of course.
