What a gorgeous song. It would be a career high for most bands, but it's just an outtake for The Who. Amazing...

Roger once said "I'd rather hit the emotion than note" Proves it here. The Doctor who fixed his voice is owed a huge debt by the world's One Million Who Fns.

My all time fave Who song - and an outtake to boot! A very rare live outing - last time in full concert but was heard in sound check at Leeds December 2014, alas didn't appear in "Hits 50" any sets that followed (so far!)

I disagree roger just hadn’t sung this song in such a long time. Or was sick who knows. I live in the desert and saw the who in 2000. His voice was pretty damn good considering the dry night air.

Roger had a rough voice that night, but the Show Must Go On!! I'm glad to have this version to watch and hear from 1999, so thanks for uploading the song!! Us old Who Fans know this but if You want a real treat, listen to this song on Pete's first solo LP. "Who Came First", Pete had the perfect voice for this type of song! One of my favorite Album Covers, Look at him Standing there on those "eggs" ! in those boots, in his jumpsuit!! Classic Pete!

I saw the Who in Florida Nov 2006. Daltrey looked as great as when I saw them in the 70's and 80's and I was shocked at how great they sounded, because I'd seen some live concert footage which wasn't so good, but here they rocked and he sounded better than this video, he even did the screams....Just FABULOUS!!!!

From what I read, this was literally the first time this song was played live since 1971. The Who never included it in their sets all these years.

I don't one way or another but on the album as the unbelievably beautiful "The Song Is Over" ends; this *mysterious, wonderous* P&E coda slips in. What is... *that*?! Well in '71 (Forrest Hills Std ) right after the opener "Love Ain't For Keeping"... These familiar chords start up, and omg it's *that song, it's a whole song*; not just a coda! Then we had to wait (back then) ?2 more years for Odds & Sods. Listen to the 7/31/71 FH version.

i don't know. i think if you listened to starkey's drumming rather than watched him, you'd find that a lot of it is just as powerful as moon's was, just a little bit cleaner. you're right though in that its not the same without his persona behind the drums--not only did he play the stuff, he did it while screaming, spinning sticks, making faces and doing whatever else pleased him. lol great organ on this song, especially at the end...that guy rocks

Remember Pete sang all the demos. Some were not so easy for Roger to sing like this one! Brilliant music though!
@catherinechurko40412 жыл бұрын
Actually if you listen to the Forrest Hills Stadium of July 29, and especially the 31st *1971* you'll hear Roger sing it in perfect form. I know I was there for both, and recorded the 7/31 version. 👍 Also the Young Vic version

"I hope I die...before I get...OLD..." ? All kidding aside, this is a great song from Townshend's solo album of what was it, '72 or so, where he's standing in a space suit on top of a bunch of eggs? One of my favorite songs---one of you Whodocks ought to find the studio version of this and make a slide-show and post it.
