You say family is the root of everything, although it is the basis of a stable life in the dunya some people do not hav families for various reasons, those without a family God gives the knowledge that the root goes deeper, and that's your connection to Allah(swt). Family is nice but if you don't have it read surah al-duha, you always have Allah(swt) the Most high, the Excellent.

In the modern societies of today, you still need money to start a family. They don't just pop out of the Earth. Families break up because of money due to lack of it not abundance.

Studies suggest at least 10yrs ago for example money salary of 40k (nominal units) where happiness does not increase. The threshold = Basic Material Needs Are Met. For relation to this nominal threshold, average income = 25-30k in the context. Thus there's 2 truths for this Western context: 1) Society designed poorly for many women to raise their children. 2) After the Material Threshold, Knowledge and Social Capital becomes much more important. Eg Jewish family disaspora skew towards successful outcomes in numerous nations of different contexts. Why? Because their culture values Education. Are they happier? That is not analysed. But the relationship is Material -> Intangible. Do note the crass use of GDP in Western economic "science" only measures material so is inherently LIMITED and foolish !! Equally all those salaries on 100k+... I think a coined term is "golden handcuffs" which is quite an eloquent phrase or in classical teaching "Gilded Cage". This all aligned with the concept or Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs. Children are very expensive as you rightly point out. Protection of this system traditionally is MARRIAGE. Islam has this correct. West has destroyed this institution and continues to do so for macro policy outcomes - willfully. Women behaviour is economic-driven. Thus Males as Earners = market-place for females eg female earns 30k expects a male to be 60k at least ie double her own income = successful pair bonding for children raising for her rationale or life-cycle outcome = Mothering and Family structure environment beneficial to children. Ideally the economic conditions would favour outcomes where all females in stable strong marriage environments would have sufficient access to money resources to raise children and society would be built around developing the intangible developments eg social capital such as Islam provides. For adult life I view more liberalism as preferrable but for family structure of society stronger adherence to Islam "principles" is superior model.

I guess you haven't grasped the point he's making. It's true that you need money to pay for essential items but if you make money focus of your life and forget about family or other important things then you're at loss. Money is something but not everything
