Hey man, great video as always! I was really hoping you do more eminem reactions after the slim shady Lp and here it is! But I just wanted to point out that though this music is a masterpiece and a lot more higher of a standard than his current music which he should be criticised, that makes a lot of sense, but like why? Isn’t this enough though, the man’s 50 years old and the only person to still be making better rap music than most modern day rappers. The fact that this albums was as controversial as it was and it's the best selling rap album of all time shows how everyone was and it's till this day sick of this dumb crap that happens in society, Eminem was the incarnation of freedom of speech, he impacted rap by opening a route to not having to fear expressing your believes while also acknowledging and being aware of your own flaws as a human being.

He still has story telling masterpieces. Bad guy, darkness, legacy, castle/arose… he’s just constantly held to the standard of “Stan” because it was such a success. Yes he is more technical with his rapping lately, but he still has songs with substance. He’s also said that he isn’t really looking to make the big hits anymore. The man is 50 years old and he’s having fun while showing that nobody can out rap him.
@stanners17142 жыл бұрын
To be fair, I think most people who actually listen to em would say that he was still good when he dropped MMLP2(which is the album bad guy and legacy are on) but it think the issue is with the rest of the tracks on those newer albums. His older albums only have a couple of mid/bad tracks at worse whereas there’s a really substantial chunk of his newer albums that just aren’t to the standard of those classic records, not even close.
@xliv2sk8x902 жыл бұрын
@@stanners1714 what standard are those old songs being held to though? If he rapped about the stuff he did back then, he would get hate for not saying anything new. His standard for skill level when rapping on newer songs is leagues above the old. He’s 50 years old and just having fun. He can’t keep repeating the same stories over and over. It’s an unrealistic expectation to have for a music artist

Em is at his best when hes speaking about topics that affect him personally. (Kim, kill you, Stan,The Way I Am, Darkness, Kill Shot, White America, Cleaning out my closet.. etc. ) Of course some of the early songs seem to hit harder and a bit more personally, he was going through a complete change of life with being in the spotlight, and being constantly blamed for being a bad influence. Now hes out of the main public eye, and more making a statement on the current state of the rap game and is content just running lyrical marathons around the garbage that is prevalent out in the mainstream. The problem is that most peoples opinions are still swayed by the drug album years. I was hoping that he would take Games bait and respond with something massive like he did with Kill Shot or The Warning. Still have my fingers crossed that he was on a release blackout because of the RnR HoF induction

The thing with em is a lot of his older music definitely got fuelled by a lot of hate, a lot of anger and ALOT of repressed feelings that needed off his chest. Nowadays em has a pretty great life. He’s not got the same drive or the same story telling in his songs, but I don’t necessarily think he needs it either. He’s earned his praise with all of this older stuff, nowadays he just makes what he wants to whether it lands or doesn’t. And for him being 50 and still doing this and arguably doing it better than a lot half his age is something to be admired. He’ll never make hits like Stan, but songs like stepping stones that came out recently show he still has a touch of that narrative drive buried deep in there somewhere.

Never Love Again and Darkness is up there. Medicine Man verse gives the "White America vibe" although a bit different, Kings Never Dies is mad inspirational, reminds me of Till i Collapse, but its more effective in modern time talking about his legacy rather than the way to the top. Also my all time favourite songs probarbly is Gon Learn and Not Alike actually. I just love the schemes on those two songs..Gon Learn water scheme with reference to Napoleon lost battle at Waterloo and Guns/muscle scheme at Not Alike. There’s no denying the impact of Eminem between 99-02. Those first three albums are timeless classics and Em was undoubtedly the best rapper in the world at that time. It’s a shame none of his music after had quite the same effect but he set the bar extremely high and never quite reached it himself again. But regardless, the first three albums by themselves cement Em’s status and legacy in hip hop.

@@morehoops no, rapping fast doesn’t make it better. It’s quality over quantity, substance over speed. He tries too hard with his rhyme schemes these days and often it ends up sounding messy. Old school Em was much much more listenable and he really had something to say even if it was quite dark at times.

Eminem is doing this and a whole lot more in his new music. It's exactly what he speaks of, that everyone holds him to this album. This is a radio play album minus a few tracks. So it comes across as more nuanced. It's just easier to digest. His new stuff is just harder to casually listen to because the same thing is said within doubles and triples. It just doesn't appeal commercially anymore.

Higher standard for setting his own bar.. I can 100% agree and I think it would be naive for anyone to debate different. Having said that, many tend to forget / gloss over / not take into account that this man overdosed to the point where he needed relearn how to rap. Realistically, “this” EM and the “current” EM are two completely different people / minds. Though I can certainly appreciate the “other” EM, his progression overall is quite honestly nothing short of amazing. Lyrics are subjective but the technicals of music theory are not and to those that truly understand said technicals (not to say you don’t) there is no question that current EM is light years ahead of old EM and practically everyone else. His arsenal is ridiculous but, yes, he’s too good for his own good which is why people feel like he tries too hard / puts too much into a track. It’s almost like he won’t allow himself to be simplistic while staying creative. Great video!

It’s really scary the fact that the day before you did this I decided to listen to this album for the first time in my life. I’m 23 and first heard of him from the album recovery. And has been a fan ever since but somehow never went back to this amazing album😭

Still his best album. A masterpiece. Still haven’t heard a rapper be as funny as Eminem was on this album. Thats whats missing from him these days. Beyond how wild a lot of the shit he was saying was, it was fucking hilarious and you felt bad for finding it so funny.

feud between Em and ICP started before Em was famous, I think it was 1997 after the release of The Slim Shady EP. Eminem was handing flyers with names of other rappers and crews from Detroit who were supposed to play on this party. ICP was one of them and it was something like "ICP will play (maybe)". then Eminem asked them if they want to play or not. Clowns got angry with it because they felt like Em tried to capitalize on them without asking before. after that Em send little shots at ICP in few underground tracks, but it really took off after the success of My Name Is. ICP parodied it as a one big gay joke and called it Slim Anus

In 'Believe' he answers to all the 'it's not the old Em anymore. 'But how do you keep up the pace And the hunger pangs once you've won the race? When that dual exhaust is coolin' off 'Cause you don't got nothin' left to prove at all 'Cause you done already hit 'em with the coup de grâce Still you feel the need to go full tilt That Bruce Willis, that Blue Steel, that true skill When that wheel's loose, I won't lose will Do you still believe?'

I began listening to this at around age 12 (crazy to think back on) but because of this I feel that once you learn music is an outlet and not real shit, you can get past the crazy shit said on most records and not feel bothered. Socially though I wouldn't throw on Marshall Mathers or Kim for obvious reasons in this day and age.
@genosis-4172 жыл бұрын
Marshall Mathers still slaps for obvious reasons 😂 Kim is a bit much but if you can't call two grown ass men who dress up as clowns and made a song called slim anus gay then you are letting people have too much of a hold on you. "Make fun of gay clubs men who wear makeup never care, wake up get a sense of humor. Quit tryna censor music this is for your kids amusement."

I dunno man, I think you can put Zeus right up there with any song from this album. It's a lyrical masterpiece, as you say. The way he puts together that Roots/Planet/Black Thought scheme is one of the most impressive things he's ever done. And he's not rapping fast at all. I think you're nitpicking a little. You can't compare nearly 50 year old Em to his younger, hungrier self. No one stays the same.
