Even excluding the fact that Gilgamesh has A+ Independent Action, this skill alone would allow him to remain without a master for days, he also has one of the highest mana reserves out of all Servants. Even higher than most Caster Servants.

So there are some things that should be explained since you will likely not read the visual novel. The main part of lancelots story that affects this plot is that lancelot had an affair with sabers wife. Which saber did not mind because she and her queen were only married for appearances and were only close friends, and so she thought they deserved happiness. But when the affair was discovered the court of camelot had them tried and convicted while saber was away. But as they were on the execution block lancelot saved gwenevere(the former queen) and escaped, although having to kill other knights of the round table to do so. He was so personally disgraced and conflicted by this that he wanted Saber to condemn him and shame his name, but she secretly made clear that she did not begrudge him even then which pushed him into despair thus eventually becoming a berserker servant. The difference between the zero urobuchi timeline of events and the nasu timeline of events is that in the original events saber knew and predicted Lancelot's fall and despair and blamed herself for it while alive. Whereas in urobuchis canon saber did not know about Lancelot falling into despair and so in zero it became a big shock and despair point for her and even more incentive to gain the grail to save the country. As for the grail itself, the fuyuki grail is cursed by the evil spirit angra mainyu. Angra is representative of all the human vices and evils of the world and so can be considered the greatest evil. Because it has corrupted the grail, the wish is always cursed to be a monkey paw involving mass death and destruction. So like, you wish to be the richest person in the world? it will kill everyone in the world besides yourself and you are now the richest. This is why it claimed kiritsugu was like itself. It showed kiritsugu his methods and the fatal flaw of his way of living in that every conflict was resolved through murder and destruction at the cost of lesser of two evils thus making peace impossible, which is what saber warned him about earlier. Which makes it super ironic that it did not predict what kiritsugu would do. It showed him what he really wanted which was his family, but as it was a monkey paw, it would give him his family at the cost of the rest of the world. Which was symbolized by the windows in the room turning to pure black besides the 3 of them. So kiritsugu ended up choosing what he always did. The lesser of two evils. He killed his chance at seeing his family again by symbolically killing them to protect the rest of the world that would be destroyed.

Archer class servants specifically have a class skill "Independent Action". Tokiomi mentions this in like episode 3. It means that Archers can operate without a master for some time. But even without that, Gilgamesh probably has something in his Gate of Babylon that could give him mana :D

Yeah actually he's capable drawing the mana directly from his weapons making them defective but boosting himself up in exchange.Ea is probably the only weapon he need's to use it for cuz gate of babylon don't take much mana to use.And his independant action is A+ whitch means that as long as he won't run out of mana he doesn't need a master at all.🤣

I love the detail of how deranged Saber is at this point, it doesn't translate well in English, but she uses very simple words in Japanese, barely being able to string words together, showing how mentally drained she is after loosing Iri (she was never able to rescue her after getting kidnapped) and the shock of Lancelot's fight. Also Kiritsugu doesn't has great mana reserves, so I imagine she must be quite drained by this point.

God, I hate Gilgamesh's Independent Action. Every time he shows up in different Fate series, his rank varies from A to EX. Now he has a rank A, which means that, by conserving mana, he can survive for about a week or two but can't use Ea (at least, that’s what I think, since the effects of this skill also keep changing)."
