Amazing how a black belt like yourself could learn so much from Professor Ribeiro. A true master indeed, and I am honoured to be learning this art from one of his black belts.

A lot of knowledge right there man. The beautiful thing about jiujitsu is just what Saulo said about age and the journey. You could be a forty year old brown belt with tons of mat time yet the journey is just beginning. You can be a twenty year old black belt yet learn from the same brown belt. Then you get meetings like this with these guys and it just shows how this game is so expansive.

I have spent MONTHS just going to my back at every opportunity and letting people get side control, mount and knee on belly, JUST to test out Saulo's defensive stuff. It sucked for a while but now I am so comfortable going to my back and have no fear except against the top 4-5 guys at my club. Thing is those guys are the only guys that can now challenge my defense. The black belts still cut through my defense like butter but that just means I have some place to make gains in my BJJ.

Wish it were longer. I find myself looki g for words of wisdom regarding jiu jitsu more than a technique. I mean I search on KZbin for technique too, but wise words, are awesome, like Saulo here, or Ryan Hall both very wise teachers who teach serious concepts, not cookie cutter tecnique.

I agree, it's a great book. I just started out a couple weeks ago but I refer to the book as well as Roy Dean's Blue Belt Essentials DVD after nearly every class to see what I did right or wrong. I've actually come to enjoy being in disadvantageous positions just to see if I can "survive". BTW, I love this video...it just goes to show that learning in Jiu Jitsu doesn't stop once you reach black belt. Thanks Roy!

I got Saulos book and I have learned so much from the white belt section and I'm a PURPLE BELT!!! Stuff like blocking the cross face and connecting your knees and elbows have taken my game to new levels. I'm not ashamed to say I learned from the white belt section. Of all the books I have Saulos is the ONLY one that is beat up, worn out with ragged pages. I keep it in the bath room and read it when I am ......ok I'll keep that to myself....LOL. GREAT BOOK. Please Saluo write another one.

@laser1ish Oh hell yeah. I hope Saulo does another book with more positions. I noticed north south was missing from the book, which is fine. There is only so much you can cram in one book. I have even taught some classes after using the cross face block for 6-8 months. Now guys in my club are using it against me and it is making life miserable. How awesome is that? I use one of Saulo's techniques, teach it to other guys at my club and they are using it right away. Great stuff.

man this guy looks like he's a down ass person. id like to meet him. recently started bjj,2 months in. always getting tapped but its great. his book , like the other guy said is something you wont regret. man, as a white belt , i just need to be humble , learn from the others, and just survive. and thats what iam doing. bjj is so addictive and it helps you in your daily life.. its true youll be having a tough day, than you go to bjj class , and you always come out feeling 100 percent better
@underboss8712 жыл бұрын
Starting BJJ is probably the best decision I've ever made in my life. I have experience in Muay Thai and always wanted to try BJJ but to be honest it intimidated me. I finally decided to just roll with it (excuse the pun) and dive into BJJ as a complete newbie, knowing nothing, and having to even borrow a gi without a belt that was around 3 sizes too big for me. I quickly learned that you get over embarrassment VERY quickly in this game. It is something you have to experience for yourself.

@thebuzzcjc It's amazing that no one has really developed a book that lays out the necessities for a person to concentrate on in each belt level like Saulo has. Obviously the white belt can still work sweeps and subs, but the main focus should be on survival. As a purple with 8 years of BJJ I have to say that the white belt section has taken my defense to an entirely new level. People at the club say things like: "Man your defense is tight!" and I have helped others learn Saulo's stuff too.
