Even if he tops out as a great 3C, he'll still be a quality impact player. Kid just seems to have the smarts and work ethic for a long career.

I don't think him ending up as a 3C would get a coach canned. Think it'd just be a reflection of his capability against top-tier talent. It's his most likely projection, and if Lambert takes the next step forward that we're anticipating, Brad will be the one to get that 2C slot.

@@Tlilancalqui Faceoffs have a relatively low correlation with offensive success in the NHL, and +/- is an outdated, context-less stat. Yager has outshone Lambert in pre-season to a degree, but Brad already has an entire season's worth of high-level, pro-calibre success with the Moose. Neither is ready for the 2C role, and I'm going to trust the elite skating and offensive ability that Lambert has shown at previous levels as an indicator for what his potential ceiling is. Yager is a great prospect in his own right, but does not have the same tools that Brad has. It's entirely possible Yager one day becomes the 2C, but based on his current junior trajectory, I don't see that as the likely outcome.

I'd argue it would be very fun to play in the AHL. Rutger will be lucky if he becomes a full time NHL player. Jumping from college to the NHL is extremely difficult.

McGroarty thought he could force his way onto an NHL roster. He is not NHL ready. Reality is hitting him hard now after thinking he could bypass the AHL. Maybe Winnipeg fans can greet him when Scanton comes to play the Moose. 😅

Bro did absolutely 0 research on how well Rutger was doing in the preseason. Top 10 in the preseason for xGF. His defensive metrics have actually been really good too. The only reason he would have been going to the A to start the year is because of the flexibility of being waiver exempt. Thats the only speculation there's been with the coaches remarks for other players , not McGroarty. It's also been understood that if he were to start the year in the AHL, it would be very short lived and that he would be joining the team in a month or two and never looking back. Jets fan(s) can't accept the fact he just didn't want to play in Winnipeg and that's why he wanted out. It was never about guaranteed NHL playing time. There's no source anywhere thay confirms that. Just Winnipeg copium because they still can't wrap their head around people not wanting to play for them. Oh, and I really like Yager - but how many preseason games did he play in? What were his underlying numbers looking like? Hmmmm.

Not yet officially, but there's a lot of speculation (plus some of Pittsburgh's own coaching staff's remarks) that he'll start in the A this year.
