@@Athils It's implied that he is underhanded, a liar, manipulator, someone who would use bribing, assassination, etc. in real life. All those things are "cheating" too; the point is, you can do it, and it grants you victory.
@redlok3455
@redlok3455 3 жыл бұрын
@@Athils "Cheating" is not the point here. The point Radovid wants to tell in playing Chess is "Why should I follow any redundant "rules" someone else made up, which, in a game of survival and death, were not supposed to exist in the first place?" If you accept rules, you are a fool. If you even follow the rules, you are an even bigger fool. This is a KING's superior logic. There is no such thing as cheating. A true King is a realist - only then, you can claim victory when you win the game. Otherwise winning or loosing become delusional. This is basically how real life works, too. He thinks more far and beyond anyone else, up to the point where he suspects his own allies of today as his potential enemies of tomorrow. He does the move before his "allies" come up with such an idea. TL;DR: Radovid invented "Among Us" before it was cool.

...Becoming a beloved martyr in the process, her crimes erased by history and time. Though that assumes the timeline hasn't been fundamentally altered by Geralt and Ciri's choices in the games. Radovid can't burn any witches from beyond the grave. And in all fairness to Triss, she *did* turn against them when she realized the extent of Sile and Phillipa's plans. Most of the Lodge had been kept in the dark about Letho and their little pet dragon.

Despite his cruelty Radovid is very tragic character. He was abused by Philipa his whole childhood. She also killed his father. Power doesn't always corrupt. It reveals the character. When all that pain and suffering could go outside, it turned him evil. Though I think he has always been racist. Because his family has always been racist.
@andreasvd9137
@andreasvd9137 5 жыл бұрын
He's not really racist. Redania was fine when Vizimir was king. Radovid doesn't care about race, he cares about beating Nilfgaard and is prepared to do anything to do that. Even if it means letting Hierarch Hemmelfart and his witch hunters kill hundreds of non humans. If you save Triss in Witcher 2, he will not burn every mage. He has the conclave and keeps them on a short leash like Nilfgaard does. Only the mages who protest will die. Also, according to the book canon, the witch hunts start in 1272 and only hundreds will die. However, if Nilfgaard wins there will be rape, slavery, mass murder of foreigners so their own settlers will go there. In this scenario thousands will die. Also I'd like to make clear that my main choice is not Radovid. It's Dijkstra.

To both Roche as well as all the people here talking about Radovid being a lunatic, well, simply put, he isn't. Yes he is brutal towards non- humans and even more brutal towards sorceresses (even though that is somewhat understandable given what he has personally experienced and given the copious track record of sorceresses in treason, sowing war and regicide and subverting and undermining royal power, power that is meant by a ruler to use to serve the people's interest, to serve their own interests). But remember that this Radovid, if you don't kill him, goes on to unite the entire North, kick Nilfgaard's ass (despite overwhelming odds). A madman cannot do that. And as he said, the whole bit about Chess men, he didn't mean it literally. That sort of thing happens to the best of us. When we are in too much stress, sometimes we see shapes on fire or in the clouds and our minds meander off into random directions.

A person can be insane but still be highly intelligent. A person can unite an entire nation under one banner however if that person is a Madman he would be uniting them under a banner of fear. A sane person would not be intentionally killing people just because they can do magic, anyone that was not human, nor would he be killing doctors. There is no doubt about the fact that he is a brilliant military tactician however he is insane.
@andreasvd9137
@andreasvd9137 5 жыл бұрын
@@razielodimm666 yes, but you do know that Radovid is *NOT* in charge of the witch hunters? That is Hierarch Hemmelfart. Novigrad has always been pro eternal fire. Radovid only allows the witch hunters to do his thing. They work for him, but they follow the orders of Hierarch Hemmelfart. Radovid made an extremely reckless choice by allying himself with them. But he did that to take Novigrad before Nilfgaard would. It was his attempt to repel the Nilfgaardians. And in the year 1276 the witch hunts end and they get disbanded.

People who are pissed about Radovid's personality in this game clearly didn't pay attention in the first two. Even in the first game, Radovid only helped you for his own selfish purposes. He was always manipulative and amoral. He was brought up spoiled and in nobility, thus he had little grip on the impacts of his decisions, since he only commanded from afar and let his troops die for him, unlike Foltest, who not only walked along the siege tower and helped his soldiers against the La Valettes, but he even joined them in battle on the front lines. Witcher 2 was when his breakdown occurred, not 3. After the conspiracy by the Council of Mages was uncovered, lead by Phillippa Eilhart, the woman who practically raised him, he went full Stalin and became paranoid of everyone, blaming all mages for the crimes of the Council by staging mass executions, including all of his former mage advisors. So this is really just the aftermath of those events. He even says in this scene that in chess, a king can even be put in check by his own pieces, and chess is the art of "sacrificing your own pieces", a pretty thinly veiled metaphor for the mass executions of mages he ordered. tl;dr: He is called Radovid the Stern for a very good reason, even it is an understatement.

what a bunch of bullshit. in the first game some temerian plebs say that they wanna move to redania from their temerian shithole cuz non humans and humans live peacefully in redania because of radovid. if you side with yaevinn radovid will accept his demands. he tried to make an alliance and help that piece of shit foltest. in witcher 2 in my playthrough he created the conclave of mages and henselt with radovid divided their temerian shithole. these new writers of witcher 3 are just retarded. it is said in the books tah rad becomes the best king of redania. foltest let his striga kill tons of people and does nothing to solve his political problems of his country. in the game he even started wars with his own people because of his penis.

Radovid's not mad. He's saying himself that he's talking here metaphorically if Geralt makes fun of him. His point is that real life is different from chess, with different rules and more inequalities between the "player", but he's also saying that the status of king is similar. You have a different view of the wide picture, but are surrounded by other that can block your way and lead the enemy to checkmate you. That explains his character as he's persecuting mages only to gain support from the north and making the city weaker (it's stated that when he wins the war, persecutions stop a few years later), and show the future of Emhyr who's killed by his follower in the timeline when Radovid is still alive and winning the war.

And even in 1, he was already practicing the use of proxy factions to fight his battles. Having the pupil of Phillippa Eilhart become a paranoid, cynical egomaniac once everything goes his way - that makes a lot of sense tbh

bullshit he refuses to work with salamandra because of their methods and in w2 he just tortures phillipa nothing more.

Jarmam this is BS, he refused to work with salamandra, worked to establish an alliance with temeria instead. In witcher 2, he removed philippa's eyes for murdering Vizimir but still sent for a trial of law against her regicide. This is also extended to sile, who was accused of the regicide of demavend. In witcher 3, they made him out to be mad. Total character assasination.

Any chess experts here? Please confirm, did this game place the chess pieces accurately, or like most movies just put a chessboard, randomized the position of pieces, and left it there because chess is confusing?

I'm no expert, but I'll explain what Black was doing. Black had castled, which means that the King went to a corner of the board for protection. With two rooks guarding each other, there is no legal way to take one of the rooks without the other one counterattacking. So, Radovid cheated and knocked one of the rooks out of the way so he could take the other one. Because the King couldn't move out of the way (because the pawns happen to be blocking the King's path), it was checkmate. I'll also add that with that many pieces off of the board, the game was near its endpoint. The only strong piece that Radovid had was the Queen, which was also under threat by that rook. If he didn't move it, he would have lost it.

The Emperor who invades and kills and burns as part of a mad plan to be delivered to a promised ruler in prophecy. The King who grows mad and extreme that he misplaces his talence in war as if it is nothing but a game to be won. And there is also the Witchers who face the Wild Hunt bravely while the kings and emperors doing the pointless killing.

I did not like this radical change of character for Radovid from Witcher 2 to 3. It's like a completely different guy.

1:14 Radovid actually makes a very intriguing and revealing observation. Chess represents a very limited environment if one actually seeks to engage with true warfare and governance strategy concepts. Chess appears to be a more logical and mathematical exercise rather than anything resembling the chaotic, uncertain and nuanced nature of warfare. Just in military terms, Chess simply doesn't approach aspects such as logistics, espionage, sabotage, equipment, morale, topography, technology, weather and so on. His observations are, from my point of view, criminally underrated. Shame he's considered somewhat out of his mind in those scenes.

Radovid is a sad man that I do Sympathies too. I understand why he wants Mages ( especialy the fucking lodge ) gone. they are to influencial They almost remind me of the Preatorians of the Roman empire, supose to be the Emperors but they sheme and kill who ever they dont like and crown the one they do like. But Radovid does go to far way to far. He became a lunatic ( which is also Philppa's fault ) and just destroys everything that isnt human. Thats why I am doing the Vassal route with Roche. and then try and make Ciri empres. so that Niflgaard has a good ruler
