@@randystabbage4821 As much as I love Witcher 3, it does feel like some of these finer details got sidelined because they stretched themselves so thin with how big of a game and story Witcher 3 was. Ciri's storyline took the main focus, so things like Radovid fell by the wayside toward the end, sadly.

This was always there. The period that ultimately defined Radovid's personality was the regency, where the king to be suffered humiliation after humiliation by politicking nobles fighting for influence as he and his mother were powerless to resist. And in the center of all of this was Phillipa Eilhart, who had his father assassinated, and who was particularly abusive. This left definite psychological scars, resentment and a festering desire to make everyone who had slighted him pay. Radovid's chief motivation is to repay the humiliations of his youth, and while that is centered on Phillipa he appears to have generalized his hatred to all mages. Part of the reason it gets so bad in Witcher 3 is that he can't find Phillipa. My read on it is that his actions against the rest of the North's mages are basically him venting him displacing his hatred for her onto a convenient and more readily available proxy.

***** Why? Women can't rule in Temeria. In my game Radovid was married to Adda, her older half-sister - and thereby had the best claim. So I gave him Anais as well, to make things more stable in the face of the Nilfgaardian invasion. Best have one guy in charge.

dIRECT0R anais becomes the ward of natalis.so in essence natalis isthe one who rules until anais comes of age(when he will probably marry her to someone worthy of elading rightfully..or even marry her himself-he is not that kind of guy though- ). It's the same thing Radovid does. Now the question is who is better to have her?natalis who cares about temeria and its people or radovid the classic power hungry king?i think its an obvious answer.in fact if you give her to radovid its made quite clear he intends to never even let her near the throne.
@dIRECTOR259
@dIRECTOR259 9 жыл бұрын
Enel97 And why would he? Boussy was one thing, but if all that's left are legitimized bastard daughters, then of the two - Adda the White, Radovid's wife(!), is much older. Radovid is the obvious successor to Foltest, his children will be Foltest's grandchildren. Anais can live out her life as the king's sister-in-law. But most importantly, with the Black Ones coming - is it a good idea to foster factionalism (by granting legitimacy to Natalis) - or unity, by simply giving Radovid the other child of Foltest. Like I said, war is coming, best to have oneguy in charge. And Radovid is a military genius...

yeah definitely. Each game had different emphasis. Witcher 1 had a fun experience and tons of quests/rewards. Witcher 2 seemed to improve all aspects over its predecessor: graphics, combat, story-telling, cinematics, voice-overs, etc. Both had different paths; i.e. Order of Flaming Rose vs Scoia'tael or Iorveth vs Vernon Roche. Witcher 3 had to stand out over Witcher 2 by pleasing all audiences (even newcomers by making it easier to understand), while witcher 2 seemed like a continuation / branched extension of Witcher 1 by being somewhat more deeper yet complicated for some. Witcher 3 tries to cater to being open world with an abundance of adventure, storylines, choices and memorable characters, and for that - it's the best out of the trilogy IMO.
@vanguard-pv5mc
@vanguard-pv5mc 7 жыл бұрын
I think that might be due in part to TW3 not really being about the Northern Realms and who's on which throne. Ciri came back and thus all the political drama was immediately shuffled way down Geralt's priority list. The political drama is thus not as involved because it's no longer central to the story.
@TheTexasDice
@TheTexasDice 7 жыл бұрын
There simply isn't as much political drama. The Witcher 3 plays in the midst of a war and the only leaders left alive are Emhir and Radovid, none of which have any reason or occasion to meet in person for political debating. Still, there are lots of great interactions with nobles in the Witcher 3. Don't forget how Nilgaard made you shave and dress up before meeting the leader of an empire, rather than have you walk in there armed and will worn leather armor like some boar in Skyrim.
@MrKILLINOOBZ
@MrKILLINOOBZ 7 жыл бұрын
Texas Dice but you can subsequently walk in like some boar from Skyrim when you meet the Emperor again later. Also, I'm glad the La Valettes' or more specifically, Louisa La Valette returned albeit briefly, and they also address prince Ansies and Meve, Queen of Lyria and Rivia and how they took Geralts' sudden leave of absence in Blood and Wine which also implies that Lyria and Rivia bent the knee to Nilfgaard/accepted vassalization. However, there are still some issues that never really get addressed, Anais, what happened to Iorveth and the Scoia Tael, how did Kaedwen go from strong AF depending on how the Witcher 2 ends to a whimpy pushover, why vassalize Temeria yet leave Aedirn, Mahakam and etc. out in the blue, why wasn't there more Francesca Findibair and her small kingdom (especially a since they are technically vassals of Nilfgaard) etc.

It very much didn't. Radovid in 3 is the last strong Northern monarch and one of the two people able to beat back Nilfgaard (the other being Dijkstra). His insanity and fanaticism were already teased in TW2 by revealing his connections with the Flaming Rose, he simply showed a more diplomatic face at Loc Muinne because it was advantageous for him.

What they did to Radovid in TW3 is the _single biggest disappointment of the whole game._ They claim he's mad. We don't see that. We see a grim, brooding, merciless monarch. And probably the greatest Northern king of all time: if you leave him alone, he manages to unite the entire North. Radovid V *the Great,* I say. He blinded Philippa Eilheart? SHE MURDERED HIS FATHER, and tormented/humiliated him throughout his childhood. She is a traitor, conspirator, and assassin - in the Middle Ages they'd have her _drawn and quartered,_ not blinded. I can't believe they let her have revenge. He goes after mages? So far as he knows, a conspiracy of mages killed two Northern monarchs, tried to kill a third, all in order to weaken the North for Nilfgaard. And in coordination with the Nilfgaardian invasion. Not only that, but going after these people will get him money he desperately needs to fight Nilfgaard. Ruthless, merciless, even cruel? Perhaps. Insane? No.

Shalnark Kun Yah. Makes perfect sense to me. A mage betrayed and murdered my father, then tormented and dominated my childhood. Then a conspiracy of traitor mages and nonhumans murdered three out of four Northern monarchs including my father-in-law, me being the lucky exception - and all in apparent coordination with the Nilfgaardian Empire. Which has now devastated and taken over virtually half the North. I need money to save the North, and at last unite it (which would be great for the Northerners - no more petty wars between the kingdoms). I'm a military genius of immense skill... I say screw the mages and the nonhumans, time to pay them back for their treason, and me to get my hands on their money to save those whom their kind betrayed. Remember that nonhumans fought for Nilfgaard in the last war... Unscrupulous? Sure. "Mad"? Pffff - no way.

Kind of late to this topic, but I think that Radovid has been sociopath from his childhood. His father was assasinated when Radovid was still but a child. And after that incident with Filippa he became more paranoid and unstable. Also at this time in TW2 there still was some other ruling elements in Northern Kingdom. In TW3 he is the last king of the Northern Kingdoms and as such he is no longer concerned with disguising his true nature.

Dunno nothing about this. I sided with Roche in act 2 and in Loch Mouinne I simple tried to save Triss. Thefore I was busy about getting gear and destroy the gargoyles and that was all I did before the meting and the end. After I defeated the dragon I saw Roche, who I didn't helped for some gargoyle reason. He was ... a little uptset with me, but alive and with Anais. So I bet was everything ok. No, because you stoped the possibility of a mage massacre in Loc Muinne, allowing the Conclave to survive. I had the same end, and even if i was worried for Temeria´s future, i think its not the worst, its better than a Temeria ruled by Radovid and a mage massacre.

Well.. Now that we know how things turn out. The most logical choices (from the perspective of the North's interests against Nilfgaard) are #1 to kill Henselt, allowing Radovid to more easily take over Kaedwen (which he'll do anyway), #2 give Anais to Radovid - ensuring there's as little ambiguity as possible as to who is the strongest claimant to the Temerian throne. He may kill her, sure, but that's for the best: her life is not worth the lives of those who might die in factional strife. Moreover, even if she were to somehow manage to illegally take power (women can not rule in Temeria), she would be a minor. A minority, and a little girl on the throne, is not what anyone needs at the time of a massive invasion.

+Giannis k. I didn't - and frankly I prefer it this way. I was once excited about these choices transferring to the next game, but now I see all they do is severely limit storytelling, as its apparent developers simply can not waste money on aspects that probably won't be seen. I now prefer the _Deus Ex_ model - multiple endings - only one canon.

I don't think Adda will allow Radovid to kill her baby sister. But I'm sure Adda and Radovid would just shape Anais to become a Redanian puppet and probably get her to marry some Redanian noble and make that guy the king of Temeria. Or just have Anais announce Temeria becoming a province of Redania.
