You know it doesn't all end? Something ends something begins and although The Witcher 3 ends as a game, the story never does. But Vesemir's adventure ended where he had always wintered. [*]

Before the battle of Kaer Morhen, this song sounds like a peaceful and relaxing break from everything Geralt dealt with in White Orchard, Velen, Novigrad and Skellige. After the battle, it sounds sentimental and sad. I don't know if anyone else feels that, but it's an amazing song when it can capture two completely different sets of emotions.

Just think about it... Vesemir died... Lambert left with Keira to far lands, to never come back. Eskel said he is going to far lands as well, to never come back. Geralt settled with Yen in Toussaint or with Triss in Kovir, to also never comeback. Kaer Morhen, once the fortress of the greatest witchers of all time, now abandoned, deserted, forgotten. Left to crumble to its own age, until nature takes care of it once for all, burying all secrets of the witchers forever, a forsaken race in extinction. Man... this game left a great void in me.

Best rembered memory of this game is when I didn't even know what it was. One day, I walked into my brothers room. Playing videogames as he normally did, then I saw the funniest thing ever, him falling off the tutorial balcony place of Kaer Morhen into the snow. Around 5 years later to 2022-23 I asked him what game that was and unbeknownst to me it was the brand new game I downloaded off his steam account. The Witcher 3. Now, I will forever hold this game as my all time favourite.

When I first came to kaer morhen, as a newcomer to the witcher series with the witcher 3, I was overwhelmed with peace. I thought to myself, "wow, finally a break from all the monsters and armies in the broader world" Now that Ive been playing in an empty world for three years I can't even stay at kaer morhen without feeling depressed. *!SPOILER ALERT IF YOU HAVEN'T BEATEN WITCHER 3!* i think this song is the reason post witcher 3 depression exists, after beating the game i felt so empty, kinda like the halls of kaer morhen itself. Vesemir was killed, Eskel and Lambert went their seperate ways and the only one left in the long decaying castle is Geralt at the end, you don't even see Yen, Triss or Ciri. I never played the 1st and 2nd game before, since this was my introduction to the series but even when i was unfamiliar with the setting and characters it really did feel like home, the music was relaxing and calm, but also very melancholic at the same time, but when vesemir was killed, it really became more sad than anything. its crazy how a songs feelings can change based on the context, really. Currently I'm on my 2nd playthrough of the game, I'm tempted to just not continue with the main quest, I don't want vesemir to die! I really don't, but there's nothing I can do about it, sadly.

* Spoiler Alert * But I'm assuming that anyone who's here has finished the game by now. As I started this magnificent game, and Geralt stared down at Ciri from the castle balcony while she trained on the pendulums, I remembered their time together during Blood of Elves: when Triss proved unable to teach Ciri to control her clairvoyance (and seizures), she recommended that Ciri be sent to the Temple of Melitele in Ellander to be educated and trained as a sorceress by Yennefer. Ciri DID NOT want to go. She climbed onto a precarious ledge above the courtyard and practiced a dangerous spinning technique with her sword, declaring that she wouldn't leave Kaer Morhen. Then she slipped. Geralt dove and caught her at the last instant, and from that point forward, they both knew how much they needed one another. Geralt's familial bond with Ciri endured all throughout Sapkowski's saga and the events of the games, despite years-long separations. When Geralt finally found her again on the Isle of Mists, after thinking she were dead, I just about cried my eyes out. Then I proceeded to beat the game, read the books again, and then beat the game another two times. Even dedicated LOTR or Harry Potter fans have to admit that this is the most emotionally gripping and relatable fantasy series of all time. Zoltan and I will fight anyone who says otherwise.

In my opinion, the books are good but not that good. However, the games, and by that I mean most especially the third, rose it to the ranks of legend. Everything fits perfectly. Dialogues, world design, music, sory lines... In the books, Geralt was too talkative and not that original. In the series he was too stupid/conan the barbarian-like. In the games however he was perfectly in between. Don't talk too much but always in a meaninglful way, with the sarcasm of those who know how the world is. Trully that game is a masterpiece in narration. To me it created the depth the books needed. The chatacters are much more likable now.

Vesemir was a very good witcher. He was a friend of Geralt and other witchers from Kaer Morhen. He was Ciri's teacher and uncle, and despite his years, he moved like a frisky young boy. And when in The Witcher 3 he is a rather calm man, we know that in his youth he was upset there. That is why they will die in a very noble way ... like a Hero!

i dont think there were really any "schools" since they werent really indicated even in the books..i think it was just something the game added esp in the 2nd and last installment..i think they had the idea from when (this is in the novel) Ciri gave Geralt and Yen a witchers medallions after she (*spoiler*) stole it from someone (*i changed somethings in that so that you dont really know what happened till you read it*)..it was a wolf, bear, and cat medallion if i recall correctly..she kept the cat, yen was given the bear, and geralt the wolf ( he lost his original one)..

God, pretty sure I've already commented this exact thing before, but I can't believe how amazingly this piece, and the setting around it are crafted. When it began, this music felt so whimsical, it felt so fantastic and peaceful, with promise of adventure. Before you know it you're gone, it was all a dream, how ironic? The next time you hear it, its bittersweet. You've completed your mission, but your biggest hardship is ahead, and oh boy, we all know how hard it really was. Then you say your final goodbyes, and wave this song a sad goodbye.. only to return, on your own accord. Is it for memories sake? Or maybe to see if you missed anything? Or just to visit their graves. When this theme plays in those moments, it rings the most true. It's packed full of emotion - every note carries a sad emptiness, a longing for what once was, like the piece knew from the beginning what was going to happen, but you couldn't see it. And now, as you roam the walls of your former home, you feel.. lost.

Most peaceful and nostalgic track on the OST I'd probably say. You can almost feel like Geralt feels, coming back to the place where he spent his stolen childhood, only now being much stronger, wiser and with heavy bag of life experience.

Wish there was like.. a dlc or something where alot of other witchers, Lambert, Eskel and all would go to Kaer Morhen again.. Could never see this Legendary fortress abandoned.. Hell I'd love if it was rebuild in Vesemirs honor to be "Vesemirs deep, keep-" Something.. Simply is the saddest location in the game after you finish it..
@Tmanowns
@Tmanowns 5 жыл бұрын
Nah, it makes sense. Even Geralt wasn't particularly fond of having to go through becoming a witcher. Even when Vesemir was alive, the witchers would rarely go to Kaer Morhen. Lambert resents that his father's life was spared, only for his own life to be ruined. Eskel has a duty, but also feels empty with Vesemir gone. Ciri's time in Kaer Morhen has come to an end as well, she no longer needs training, instead it is time for her to help the world. And Geralt has more to do, more lands to see, and monsters to slay, more people to save. The games don't do as good of a job conveying it, but the time of monsters and witchers has been coming to an end. A silver blade is rarely needed any more. Kaer Morhen is simply a monument to a dark time, when men had a horrible solution to an even worse situation: brutally training young boys, many of them dying before the real danger of mutating them into sterile and emotionless killers, which killed nearly three quarters of the boys who went through it. Boys who never had a choice. Kaer Morhen may be "home," but it is also a grave, one which none of the characters wish to see any more.

@@Tmanowns Even with this being the case, seems everywhere you go in the game there's tons of enemies. Can't even go into the forest or by the wter without getting attacked. Can't go underground without being attacked. Can't go into any town without there being a contract for a silver blade. Usually some mystery murder in every town that needs solving. And that's just the little bit of Geralts life we've played. Doesn't seem like work one Witcher can do alone. I've been playing Dungeons and Dragons, and I created a Witcher to play, because after finishing this game and its dlc, I wanted more action of a Witchers life. So I made a witcher, and I go through this new world of DnD taking contracts much in the same fashion. as I played through world shaking events and mystical adventures, I had acquired my own fighting style, and specialized in my own methods of defeating creatures. Whenever I came across a dragon, I would attempt to bond with it, as Witchers refuse to kill Dragons, it only made sense to try to save them, as they are an exotic race. One thing lead to another, and I was kind of knighted by a Dragon. Once my Witcher retired, he took on 2 new students. Willing, twin sisters, who saw what I did, and new there always had to be a Witcher in the world to balance the fact that there would always be evil in the world. They were teenage girls. They asked me to subject them to the Trial of the Grasses, and so I did. I trained them in my new school, a personal art I had developed throughout my years as a Witcher. It is called, The Witcher School of the Dragon. So the Witcher's will eventually die out. But we won't go down without a fight. As long as there are monsters that threaten the innocent, there will be others trained with the sense of obligation to deal with such threat. It's no different from a military draft in the real world. Which is a necessary evil if you all want your freedom.

@@Tmanowns So I just finished the game and... I refuse to let Kaer Morhen die... It's a beautiful place with maybe over a millenium's worth of history and memories... Can't we reinstantiate it into something else? Something similar, training disciples to help the world, pitting them against trials, but not the mutation parts, no deaths, no loneliness, just a bunch of determined friends/students sitting by the campfire gazing to the night sky... It shall be called Kaer Vesemir...

Sometimes you play a game and the memories you had make the game seem cooler than it really was. You go back and you’re surprised at how beautiful it looked in your memory and how different it looks now that you’ve actually come back to it. The graphics, the epic moments, the difficulty, nothing seems like it did. The Witcher is not one of those games. My memory of the game and the actual game are indistinguishable, no matter how many times I go back and play it. Truly a masterpiece that won’t soon be obsolete despite reaching its epic conclusion years ago.

Even though many who have already commented were years ago already by now.. I just want to thank everyone here, I feel very understood when I read your experiences. Finishing this game was like falling into a void, for me an even deeper one because of the nightmare I was living in real life at the time, finishing this game was like losing a friend you know you shall never see again. An amazing friend, with whom you made so many absolutely great, fond memories. I wouldn't trade the memories I have, nor the intense emotions that come with it, for anything in the world. It's been 5 years since I started playing this masterpiece of a game at the very day it came out. I remember telling my mother I had already reached level 6/7/8 when I stopped playing that day, I played the enitre game on my xbox stationed and connected to the TV screen in my parents' bedroom. 5 long, yet at the same time short years ( I was 15). People at CDPR and the phenomenal musicians who worked at this game, if you ever read this, I want to thank you from the bottom of my being for this game, and world that you together have created. Again, it's been 5 years, but Geralt, his friends, his wife (whomever he had chosen in your experience), are my friends, and shall forever live on in me. I immerse myself back into this world, and I try to forget at hard as I can, that it is not on earth and that I will only ever be able to visit it in my dreams and thoughts. You have created a world so great that I have a hard time accepting I will never physically meet Geralt of Rivia, my friend and hero. Thank you, truly, you have made my life a lot more full and more wonderful than what it otherwise would have been. Thank you, thank you, thank you.

The great thing about video games, better than movies, is that they put you in the drivers seat of the experience. Every damn person that has played this game can say “I am Geralt of Rivia.” I listen to this music and it brings me back to a time when I battled the Wild Hunt. When I searched for Ciri. When I couldn’t make a choice between Yennefer and Triss.....hey, maybe I’ll do it all over again. 🤷‍♂️

Felt a kind of solitude after finishing the main game and the expansions, so i decided to take one more journey to discover all the question marks. Went back to White Orchard,Velen, Novigrad, Skellige and Kaer Morhen. On my trip i got interesting encounters but particularly striking was the feeling of a Witcher alone on his path through a World of cruelness but equally revelation of beauty. Thanks to this ride i got a glimpse of the burden a witcher has on his way through dark and light! Thank you Witcher...

"Peaceful, beautiful, enchanting, sad, mournful, lonely, dreamy. Like something you'd play at a funeral for someone who is truly missed. Or perhaps leaving a dream-like home of bountiful happiness knowing that you are striving forward out of your perfect comfort zone and into the dangerous unknown. Or maybe remembering fond and joyful memories of a time and place that you are so far away from." This is what I said about "the Fields of Ard Skellig". This song, "Kaer Morhen" captures how it feels when you return home and find it long abandoned with no one there to greet you. Still just memories that will remain fond in your heart. Fond and so incredibly sorrowful.

It’s just the atmosphere of Kaer Morhen that’s so iconic a Castle fortress hidden in a mountainside valley surrounded by forests and lakes. Plus the music fits it well. Edit: A castle like this is nigh impossible to siege without mages. You wouldn’t be able to bring catapults or rans up by land. Kaer Morhens design and location were well thought out from a tactical perspective.

Geralt says in the quest Skellige's most wanted: "Only Witchers stand between you and humans. We know both worlds, protect both. We kill dangerous monsters so the thinking one's can live in peace." No one knows both worlds better than witchers who live in both worlds themselves, simultaneously. Witchers are seen as vile inhuman monsters while also being their protectors and even their saviors. Mage's understand magical anomalies, and humans - well, humans But no one understands the fine line between a monstrous human and the most humanist monster like a witcher - "You don't need mutations to strip a man of humanity, I've seen plenty of examples." When the witchering trade falls, so will all the wonder and beauty of the continent. Humans will expand even farther than before with the advent of industrialization which mages and machinists will bring in time sooner than expected. And magic, magic will gradually go the way of superstition like in Nilfguaard. Mages will be replaced with technicians and tinkerers, but not before mages once again, like in ages past, bring about a new world, but one built of steel, smoke, and the blood of all that was. This song is a remembrance of times past in it's enchanting form, from an age so distant - yet so close..
