@@RickyMaveety he was deciding if people are witches, true, but he was not selecting the candidates I understood? People who were living around were selecting "suspects" and paid him to decide who needed to be eliminated. A lot of his victims were living alone in secluded places, he would not have even known of their existence if not for locals.

@@RickyMaveety being assassin involves being a murderer so those two are not exclusive. He was paid to murder at his wish whoever was selected for him. And due to ridiculous methods of establishing guilt, most of the selected were eliminated. It was more of a deliberate assassination ordered by locals. Once he was called and paid to deal with someone that one was most certainly sentenced and killed. Because he operated within the law, he was a perfect assassin who could not be tried for his murders.

I lived in Mistley/Manningtree for many years... there are still places connected to him... you can actually stay in his Mistley Thorn... I'd recommend it plus it's a great place to find all the other Matthew Hopkin sites in the nearby area.
