This was SO good! I think it resonated with me because of the caregiving I did for my precious father for about 14 years. Dad was not always bedridden during the entire time of his illness, but as time went on, he became less & less ambulatory, and sicker & sicker. Fortunately, my parents had the resources to bring in outside nursing support to help me, but that didn't stop the toll it took on me mentally & physically, especially because I was doing all I could for him to get better. I had a hope & an expectation of a better outcome, and that fueled my energy & perseverance for almost the entire 14 years. Eventually, I felt myself burning out. The two of you are simply wonderful. One advantage you all have that I didn't have is your youth factor. Youth was on your side. I was pushing senior citizen age when Daddy became ill, so the toll on me might have been a bit heavier. Nevertheless, I congratulate BOTH of you for the outstanding job you are doing. What you are doing demonstrates real love, and that's encouraging to all of us who just want to see a little more goodness in this world.

I've enjoyed both of your channels for so long. Is it okay to say that I think both of you are angels and just super special people? I don't mean that to be any insult to the men at all but, for instance, I'm the caretaker (in general not for special needs) in my family. If there's an emergency I typically step in and care for my older relatives. My aunt also is the go to family caregiver and I've been burnt out many times but wouldn't change anything. You two are caregivers on turbo and do so gracefully with so much love and your friendship is SO SPECIAL. I love watching the videos where you both are together (of the boys or all of you). Anyway.. thank you for the education.

Thank God for caregivers. I am the disabled one (MS) and my husband is my caregiver. People often ask to help but they have no clue of the extent of caregiving I need. He is having gallbladder issues and I am concerned that I will have to go to the nursing home if he has surgery.

Loved hearing this. I do think one of the hardest things to deal with, politely, is unsolicited advice about my disease. Even doctors & specialist don't know what actually living with it is like & they do learn things from me not found in their books or work-a-day practices. Both of your hubby's are so different in their needs & no one knows them better than you (or them) but you are open for new ideas. Those are best given from folks who actually live with a disAbility. It's hard to not see you as that different from any other couple. Means it works for you & so it works for us as your followers/fans too. I'm off to watch Shane & Hannah's video & even if it is just the same, it's well worth a re-watch! You ladies are awesome humans.
@Dayholly8620 күн бұрын
DisAbility? No, do not give that connotation to the word disability. It's a normal conversational word. Capitalizing the middle makes it stand out more in the sentence, rather than change the emphasis within the word. People who fear the word don't advocate for themselves as effectively. I am protected at work by the Americans with Disabilities Act. Not the differently abled act. Knock it off with euphemisms and trying to dress up disabilities. They are a normal part of life.

Excellent callout about how there are specific callouts on how to lift Shane safely. My bestie (with SMA, very similar to Sean's level of progression) found this portable sling online that is exactly like the sling on her hoyer lift. She was able to go to Disney World and do a ton of rides with her siblings. It was configured with four handles that the others would use to move her. It also helped them transfer her on the plane.

Cole can do more movements. There is a movement that people are not aware of they have. It comes directly from the brain. I call it hydrogen X. We use it for direction only mostly. It just takes a long time to discover, and then it can be used to condition the body. If he makes any kind of movements he uses hydrogen X. He just doesn't know that he uses it. It only works one.
