That’s not well said, this movie is about Jordan Belfort. This scene is not meant to be inspirational. He’s getting these people pumped up so they will scam people on the telephone for him. He’s a criminal. He ran a “pump and dump” scheme, he wanted them to buy that specific stock because he owned a lot of it. Making other people buy it artificially inflated its value, allowing Belfort to sell it and make off with a boat load of cash, leaving the investors high and dry with a worthless stock.

I performed this monologue in my acting class back in college, a few weeks after this movie came out in theaters, and got an A.
@feroxdrifts96932 жыл бұрын
I may choose this monologue for my drama class, any tips? I’m completely new to drama and its my first day but the reason I chose this is because I have watched this movie and I love Leonardo’s performance and I think I can do good while being dramatic than being sad/funny maybe? I don’t know but kinda seem like a big challenge for me but I have got time because my teacher told me we have enough time so do you think I can make it? But I was also kinda shy at first to act it out because all of other students with me are experienced already while I’m the only one who’s new but thankfully I prepared myself to not be shy anymore about anything because honestly its a waste of time and never gonna know my possibilities if I keep acting “shy” all the time. So you got any tips to help and get A on my exam ?

Car salesman are lower than drug dealers. People only talk to you because you sell something they need.
@SuperMusicman7778 жыл бұрын
NaughtyVampireGod My customers always leave extremely happy after I've assisted them. Some of them have become good friends and refer everyone they know to me. I don't get how you're comparing me to a drug dealer. And wouldn't you agree that selling something people need is better than selling BS and negativity on KZbin? It's unfortunate that you might have been taken advantage of in the past but do understand that not all salesmen are like that.

IMO There's a difference between an actor making a movie fun, immersive and exciting, and just being a very good/talented actor. I agree Mcconaughey is very talented, impressive acting! You can tell he's good... but you're not in the movie, you're still appreciating his great acting from outside the movie. Actors like Leonardo put so much soul and energy you feel like you're living the movie.

“There is no nobility in poverty!“ as a single mom in the mortgage industry for 20 years, I used to listen to this to muster up the strength I needed for to make calls and take on the days that hit me like a hammer with bills and pipeline management and hunting new business! And managing my household. This is the greatest motivational speech/scene I’ve ever seen. Oscar worthy, never goes out of style.

so i understand that belfort is not someone to be admired or looked up to, but I will say the "no nobility in poverty" line is absolutely true. we need to start remembering that.

Sad truth is the typical person will shrug this off, not knowing the real message. This same person will go to college, get in debt to get a job--which is basically security. Not one time will he/she think about investing their time into their own venture, but into someone's else dream. I just don't get it at all.

True
@eliybeats9 жыл бұрын
heyitsablackguy It's what society taught them to do. We have to get out of the hold. The only way to attain financial freedom is to pursue your own venture and devise a way and plan to accumulate enough passive income which isn't too hard at all. The time spent in school could be converted into time for making $1000+ The only exception is when you want to learn a skill that only school has.
@marvelcomiks80788 жыл бұрын
heyitsablackguy heck, I don't know what you're talking about...and I don't know what his message is about either. But I think he talks crap. Yeah, I went to college, yeah I was penniless, Yeah I got a job....and yeah I now own a couple of properties and I make well over six figures in my job alone excluding my personal assets....and NO....I don't believe on riding on the back of others and I don't believe in comparing myself with others either. I believe in hardwork and earning my own keep.
@EhCanadianGamer8 жыл бұрын
+heyitsablackguy Yeah that's the one thing you really enjoy about this film. It's watching him building is venture and he made it all himself. What he did to get there was amoral and illegal sure, but you still can't deny what he built required work. And the reason why most people don't think about investing money into their own venture is because they are afraid of failure that's why. I would at the very least gain some experience into what you plan on basing your venture off of before you even think of building your venture. Which is what Jordan did, he spent his time on Wall Street, got experience, and used that experience to make million of dollars.
@EhCanadianGamer8 жыл бұрын
+thegreeenbeast Yes, but at the same time you kinda ride along with him because DiCaprio was very motivational with his character. But also no he's talking about building your own venture, he's not just referring to Jordan's success. You can go along with him building his company cause it's really entertaining to see him working to make his fortune. Everyone should make their own path not follow predetermined ones.

For all of you cynical people out there that think this isn't accurate or that what he is saying isn't true or moral; My dad is the law abiding, top salesman at his company and he played this speech at a salesmen meeting at the company he works at. If you take out the materialism and drugs in this movie, there are actually a lot of valuable lessons on success that REAL PEOPLE implement in business and in life.

this acting is fucking amazing!! how the fuck did he not win an Oscar for this?
@Harvles93 Жыл бұрын
How he didnt win an oscar for this I really have no idea. I genuinely think he captured the intensity, the mentality, the absolute absurdity of the real Jordan Belfort. The lude car crash scene alone was worth an Oscar. Literally had to be trained how to be on drugs as hes that pure of a character, he never took any before. Amazing amazing actor, an absolute PRIVILEGE to get to watch him grow from a young little boy in the Titanic, all the way up to Jordan Belfort or even Mr Candy (that was oscar worthy performance as well)

Jordan Belfort is an amazing motivational person. He can use his skills for good or evil. He filled his company with fast food workers, bellhops, and waiters and taught them the Straight Line system which is still the best sales strategy out there.

"I want you to deal with your problems by becoming RICH!" I like that. My best friend was dumped by his gf because he was not rich. She married a wealthy man twice of her age. Anyway,my friend changed a lot of things in his life,worked hard and 10 years later become more wealthy than his former gf husband. He never went back to her, but he is enjoying his life with his beautiful wife and his three kids.
