The Wolf of Wall Street (2013)
Director: Martin Scorsese
Writers: Terence Winter (screenplay), Jordan Belfort (book)
Stars: Leonardo DiCaprio, Jonah Hill, Margot Robbie, Matthew McConaughey
In this scene, the biggest challenge was the part where Margot was punched in the stomach by Leo. A scene that became one of the actress's favorites. In the book, Jordan kicked Naomi down the stairs - which happened in real life. #MargotRobbie said: "When I saw Jordan at the after-party following the premiere, I asked him how good the scene looked because in the cinema the whole audience gasped. And he said, “I know! Even I couldn’t watch that. I was like, ‘Oh God, I can’t believe he just did that.’ And I said, “What are you talking about, Jordan? You kicked her down the stairs in real life!”
Do you think Margot Robbie gets enough credit for how good she is at acting❓

I’m actually really impressed with Margot in this scene, you can see she remembers each step of the dialogue written and she stays really close to it but makes it sound natural by just altering it ever so slightly especially how often she repeated “Jordan” as that what anybody would be doing when you are trying to reason with someone who can’t be reasoned. Really brilliant performance.

Even the actress playing the Nanny gave it her all. Being both confused and panicked over the situation not knowing what to do as both of them are her employers but at that moment, the child is all that matters as motherly parental instincts clicked in even when the child isn't theirs.

People don't realise that the job of a scriptwriter is to write only what is necessary for a scene. They write it in mind that a lot of creative influence is going to come from other parts of the production, the director, actors, set design, costume design. They don't have to write what colour clothes they're wearing or what kind of inflection of the speech they make. Of course it will be different from the origins script and if it's better thats a good sign the movie will be a success.
@anjelica948
@anjelica948 5 ай бұрын
It really also depends on the director. Some directors stick to the scripts word for word, and will make actors do scenes again and again and again until its exactly what the screenwriter envisioned. Kubrick was known for this. But a lot of directors welcome feedback and input from their actors and other people working on the film.

I like the detail of Jordan going down the spiral staircase. I think it’s a correlation between Dante’s divine comedy and going down into hell. Jordan is going to hell when he’s walking down and by taking his daughter with him, it signifies that he is going too far and losing everything as he tries to hold on to his last things in his life. It also means he is walking to hell every morning by going to Stratton.
@cellolotus8077
@cellolotus8077 7 ай бұрын
Thank you for sharing, and I really resonate with the Dante analogy! While watching the movie, i kept thinking about this concept in Buddhism called the ten worlds, which are life conditions we experience in response to our environment or circumstances. Our life condition impacts how we see things and how we operate in the world. Hell is a life condition of deep suffering and while watching this movie, I kept seeing how Jordan was always living in a life state of intense suffering even when he had all this money, power and success.

The scriptwriting gives you a baseline for the scene, but actors will often loosely stick to it in order to make it sound more natural in the moment. Some directors are stricter and want their actors to say the exact lines and others not. It depends entirely on the creative vision. Scorsese is pretty well known for enjoying working with specific actors and give them freedom, but someone like Tarantino prefers actors to say his lines word for word most of the time.

many people in real life and in movies -- i know this is an exaggeration -- treat their kids like objects, or extensions of themselves, which little regard to what is best for the child. I think that's why sometimes we see news articles about mom drowning kids or daddy killing himself and the whole family. Then there are the subtle things that create personality disorders. This scene had me thinking these thoughts. Great acting and Margot Robbie... super hot in this movie 😂😂she could just stand there and I'd applaud.

That must have been a bit traumatic for the little girl that played Skylar, I know these kids are very well trained to play scenes like these but daaamn, that was intense. 😊

0:17 Margot's fucking face when she says "You're a sick man" followed by Leo screaming "FUCK YOU" genuinely chokes me up every time I see it. Incredible acting here.
