We have ranch in the Sawtooths Wilderness in Idaho. It has been in the family for five generations. It is now extremely rare to see an elk on our property. We see wolves regularly. I much preferred the elk. There has been no improvement in the balance of the ecosystem. It is now out of balance. No elk. Lots of wolves. A sad state of affairs indeed.
@nategwinn90584 ай бұрын
Yeah, that’s because the elk behave like elk now instead of acting like cattle. Moron.

Cattlemen do "fear" what Wolves can do to their herds, especially when they are giving birth to young! Why couldn't States try to increase Wolves' food supply so they won't hurt the Cattleman's "bottom line"? An increase in small game might, possibly, be an answer. Increase rabbits, squirrels, turkey, pheasants, quail, etc.. These may provide enough food for wolves that cattleherds can remain relatively unharmed! An increase in deer herds might work, but competition for grass pastures will increase!
@georgevan25894 ай бұрын
There are programs for ranchers to get reimbursed for wolf predation of their cattle. I don't know about mountain lion and bear predation. Of course many ranchers try to keep elk and deer numbers high so they can sell more hunting packages.
@dennistate59534 ай бұрын
Supporting small game means habitat enhancement management which hosts myriad benefits for wildlife & humans.
@michaelgomez304414 күн бұрын
That's ridiculous and is not going to happen. The land can only support a certain amount of animals. And wolf reintroduction has proven to benefit the environment. Wolf presence drives the elk into hiding in upper elevations and they don't overgraze the lowlands. Trees are actually starting to come back because of wolves.

Not in the real world. In Minnesota, Wisconsin and Michigan wolves take 4 out of every 10,000 livestock. There have been NO attacks on humans in any 3 states in recorded history and each state loses between 2 and 12 pets out of estimated 80,000+ per state - almost all, of which, could have been avoided by bringing pets in at night or not letting them run off a leash through areas where there are wolves.
