Just came across this album, I have the same album I got it in 1971 for my 21st birthday, sad thing I have no record player to play it on. But then there is KZbin, ☘️😉

I just had to search for songs using the melody of Sean South of Garryowen and found it was Roddy McCorley. I have loved Irish music since I saw the Clancy Brothers on a show hosted by David Frost decades ago. They sang The Red-Haired Girl and Will Ye Go Lassie Go. I then listened to the Irish Rovers, the Chieftains, and the Jolly Beggarmen among others. It was not until 2023 that I heard a song sung by the Wolfe Tones. I enjoyed their style and began finding songs sung by the group on KZbin. It was while searching for information on a rebel named Henry Joy McCracken that I came upon the name of a rebel executed in 1798 called Wolfe Tone. I searched to see if the group got their name from him and of course they did. I will never understand why I, an American, have got so moved by the deaths of men like James Connolly, Kevin Barry, Henry McCracken, and Robert Emmet more than patriots in my country, but I am awed by their bravery. The Wolfe Tones' version of James Connolly, lauded as a true soul of Ireland, was a spirited description of his physical condition when killed. May the title of a well-known song, A Nation Once Again, come true.

Wolfetones sang a song called "many young men of 20 said goodbye". That was the song I sang when I was 20 years old heading to America. They also sang a song "Jeanie Mac I'm nearly 40" that's me now :( Love the tones. My favorite song is "For Ireland I'd not tell her name".
