And so the judging begins. Lol. Calling her "selfish" for wanting kids. It's not selfish. Is there a possibility of her kids having the condition? Yes, there is. But just because she can't help what her facial expressions do doesn't make her selfish. That's so ignorant of you people. She's raising two absolutely beautiful children. There's nothing wrong with them at all. They're beautiful with or without the condition. These children have two loving parents and a great home. What's the problem? Nothing. The problem is you guys constantly bashing people like her. Whether someone has a disease, disability, or trait that they can't help, and you people constantly judge and bully and hurt them. Ok, I read through these comments and most of you seem to believe she's selfish for choosing to have children. Do you all feel like people with inherited diseases should opt out/not be allowed to have children? I.e. People who are predisposed to heart disease, diabetes, cancer, etc. This woman's condition doesn't appear to be life threatening, she found a husband and seems to be relatively happy. Though it obviously has made life harder.. Idk. I don't think I've ever seen anyone let the knowledge of breast cancer or hypertension running in their family stop them from having children, nor have I seen anyone telling said people to adopt instead.
@deeyannie233910 жыл бұрын
***** As nice as it would be to live in a world free of any diseases or disorders, wouldn't sterilizing carriers of said mutations be ineffective seeing as most are not fully understood..? The fact remains that there is no cure for autism or cancer, and neither are fully genetic either, so they'd still exist. Trying to eradicate a disease by prohibiting carrires to have children just seems like it would be inhumane and ineffective to me.. Also it'd probably just make it harder for scientists and doctors to find more effective treatments for patients that are already afflicted.
@ErikB60510 жыл бұрын
dee yannie I think it wouldn´t be inhuman to spare a child a life full of suffering ^^. And to your last point: You would really prefer lots of people suffering to be able to find a treatment than excepting it as a rare illness.
@hachikoprichudlyvi569410 жыл бұрын
I agree with you...Also, how do you know for sure if that'll be passed down? My dad has diabetes, he had 4 children (oldest is 28) and not one of us have diabetes~ I guess you just never know...Even though that child may suffer, I don't think they should be banned from having children.
@ErikB60510 жыл бұрын
Partially I think you are right. You shouldn´t take someone the right to get a child because of a slightly increased risk to get cancer. But in Harder cases by which I mean real genetic or viral deseases that have a high risk of inheritance (Trisome 21, HIV). I think there should be laws to prevent them from having kids even if its hard. There is a reason incest is forbidden but why just that ....
@deeyannie233910 жыл бұрын
TheBlaaackSheep I see where you're coming from. However, how can we make decisions for people who are almost always perfectly capable of making decisions for themselves? They're the ones that will have to raise a child knowing that their life will be significantly more challenging than their peers, and will carry the burden of knowing that child is a result of their decision making and risk taking for the rest of their lives. I don't feel like anyone has a right to tell a woman (or man) what they can and cannot do with their reproductive organs unless they are purposefully causing harm to someone while using them. Life is hard, and everyone isn't born with a perfect bill of health, but that doesn't mean those afflicted with certain genetic disorders are deprived of happiness and usefulness to society.. Unless we're in that same position we have no right to judge who has a right to reproduce or be born. Not everyone with these diseases live terrible meaningless lives. Think about where the world would be if Steve Jobs's parents were not allowed to have children. (bad example but I'm too lazy to look up famous/powerful people with genetic disorders)

these comments actually make me sick. all of you people saying she shouldn't have kids, who are you all to decide if she is not allowed to have kids? adoption is not always an option, do you realize how much money and time it takes to adopt a child? and she probably wanted kids of her own, just because her son lives with the same medical condition doesn't mean he won't be happy. don't judge someone's decision until you've been in their shoes.

I feel sorry for her. But despite everything I still think she and mainly her husband is selfish for having not 1 but 2 kids. She has the condition and they knew there was a huge chance of the kids getting it as well. Why bring a child into the world, when you know that the kid may possibly suffer from it for the rest of the his/her life. As parents they have violated the right of the kid to want and have a normal life. If the husband did understand her condition and accept it the way it was, why be selfish to want kids that will suffer for the rest of their lives? sad that the kid never had a choice. just my opinion.
@electricmariposa10 жыл бұрын
I actually agree with you 100%
@terraflyer2310 жыл бұрын
Then it should be concidered selfish for anyone to have a kid. You can feel depressed even without a disorder, and having one doesn't mean that you regret life. This woman may have a hard time pulling a smile off, but she can still feel happiness - and so can her kids. Either way: Forcing new life, abnormal or not, into a world like this where every day could be hell... That's the greatest risk a living being can take, and yet close to everyone does it. They do because, ultimately, each individual has to decide for her/himself if life is worth it. Therefore you can't blame anyone else if you deem it insufficient. (For clarification - yes, this is my opinion and I do not force it upon anyone else. Sharing is caring)

That's kind've like saying anyone who has a genetic disorder of some sort themselves or in their family, should not have kids because their kids may or may not suffer from it. And trust me DNA NEVER copies perfectly from parent to child, so any child has a chance or being born with an abnormality. Should I tell you, or infact, anyone that they shouldn't have kids because of this? Of course not, it's our right as a human being to have children. Some people abuse this right and neglect and harm their children, but nonetheless it still exists. But that's just how I see it, I say that with utmost respect.

As someone with Moebius I really feel for you, and wanted to let you know you are loved. I decided on not having the surgery because, at the time, there was very few people doing the surgery. Now, I am happy with the way my family and friends look at me....like I'm freaking normal lol. And screw anyone else who makes you feel less like a person.

I don't have much to say other than...What's wrong with you? I agree with Sierra Buckingham and Gossip Girl. I would NEVER EVER want to be friends with someone who makes fun of people with rare diseases or even a common disease. I have 2 unimportant ones. I mean yeah they're kinda important because in certain situations they can be life threatening. I have diabetes and celiac disease. I have had them for about 8+ years and I hate it. Although until someone finds a cure, I'm stuck with it the rest of my rest. I just HATE when people make fun of people with diseases. People like that disgust me.

What irritates me the most is not that she can't smile but that she seems to be unable to pronounce bilabial nasal and plosives yet they're still hearable. She's obviously a great person with to much doubt. Her children have a great mother and they will grow up to be respectful persons, I'm sure.

For all the people saying... "well it's so selfish of her for having kids and blahblahblah..." Just remember that if God didn't want her to have kids he wouldn't have gave her a period and made that happen. Plus smiling gives you wrinkles anyway ;P and it must be something that runs in her family her mom probably had it.

***** God works through providence. He's not going to magically, without explanation, make things work the way they do; He designed it. God has created life the way it is and we can observe it; we can't explain it. For example: Please tell me what powers gravity? Where does instinct come from? What encrypted DNA and how can we decrypt it? We think we've explained away God by observing what He does and placing labels on it but that's far from the truth.

How selfish to have children knowing how hard life is with that condition.
@AllThePeppermint11 жыл бұрын
How selfish of you to impose your self-righteous value on her. She and her husband brought beautiful new life into the world! There are worse things in life than not being able to smile, like ruining your own life and relationships with selfishness. She clearly does not feel that her life is worthless and she needs to die, so who are you to say how bad she has it? Your cruel judgmental attitude has no place in this woman's life. It's because of people like you from when she was a child that she sought drastic medical procedures. You have no credentials, nor are you perfect, to be throwing around such hurtful comments.
@kiracatherine796611 жыл бұрын
Candy Kriegel Self-righteous values?? It is selfish to have a child knowing they will probably suffer from a disorder, when there are other options like adoption. It is because of selfish want that there is another child with this disorder in the world. She said so herself how difficult it was growing up like that. No one said the child's life was worthless, so stop imagining things.
@Crilic311 жыл бұрын
***** Live her life before you have the audacity to judge her actions.
@AllThePeppermint11 жыл бұрын
***** Adoption is not for everyone, and even if a person chooses to pursue adoption, there are zero guarantees a family would even be given a child. Moreover, life in and of itself has trials and suffering, but those can help build strong character if a person chooses to face them with courage. Not having a disability does not make those trials go away in the slightest. I've never met a person with a disability that I ever thought should not exist. They have a way of being much mightier in spirit than any "normal" person that doesn't have to face their challenges. I find that people with disabilities, and their families, have such bravery, courage of conviction, and absolute resolve about living life to the fullest! It's quite remarkable. You did say that it was selfish of the mother, knowing how difficult it was to grow up with her disorder, to have any children. Ipso facto, if you don't think a child should exist, you have no value for their life.

Why are people so cold about others misfortunes? It's like you can't even breathe a single breath and suddenly you get bashed on, also you can actually get into serious trouble saying some things, its like suddenly society is just falling apart and are people more cruel, however misfortune comes to them. Yes I do believe in karma, I see it happen all the time. Now I know saying this probably wont change anything, but I just thought I say something about it without being a jerk. And if your going to say something bad, you're just proving my point.
