I have seriously seen people say that school shooting victims deserved it for being a bully. (If you can watch a few interviews with Survivors they will speak about how the shooter was already more of a bully to their peers than the other way around) Boys aren't taught how to cope with their emotions- they are taught to just 'suck it up' this causes a lot of young boys and men to have serious untreated mental illnesses or other emotional disturbances. This is the fault of parents perpetuating a stupid ideology- Counselors not stepping in to change it. Teachers not pushing for emotional learning in early years. Men and boys' mental health is something that is only cared about once they are already dead or in jail. The other problem is the lack of gun control, guns aren't going to go away and that's not what gun control means. Just means that you shouldn't be able to use your student ID to buy a gun. (Yes that is a thing) People who are showing signs of being a danger to themselves or others shouldn't be allowed to obtain military grade weapons or automatic pistols/rifles. Not being able to own guns so close to a school (Brenda Spencer) Point is- saying bullying caused a shooting to happen is Victim blaming and blaming CHILDREN Parents, Law Makers, Doctors, and Teachers are the only ones who can bring a real solution to the table- but that would require them to take responsibility

Just a friendly reminder: No matter how loving and supportive your parents are, you can still develop a lot of homicidal and suicidal tendencies. Absolutely. And while I completely understand the reason behind people who are homicidal never really getting help and being treated as murderers even if they’ve never harmed someone sucks. When I was a late teenager/very early twenties I definitely had issues with homicidal thoughts. I knew it was bad obviously but it’s the same with knowing that suicide is bad. You find ways to justify it to yourself. I just wish that the same degree of help offered to suicidal people is also given to homicidal people because if you haven’t done any crime I don’t think that having urges you can’t control is worthy of being treated as if you did the crime. Even for pedophiles. They’re the worst people alive but pedos that have harmed children and pedos that haven’t should be treated differently. Not good but not as bad as those that have actually hurt people. Idk I just know that I had to spend a lot of time to figure out where the homicidal tendencies were coming from and how to get them to go away. It was quite honestly very difficult and I didn’t handle it in quite the healthiest way considering I just self harmed instead of hurting others. It makes me wish that there were some sort of resources out there for people who don’t want to deal with it but don’t know how to not have those feelings because it’s so much easier to deal with if there are people that know and are there to support you in getting away from that mindset.
@ThatlilrayofSunshine Жыл бұрын
@@alexevans2011 I agree, I believe support should be for everyone no matter the circumstances, and as a teen myself, I think that there's not enough support from people around us, I deal, but not everyone does, and when things go down and there's no one or nothing around to help, things get dark and fast, everyone goes through something, but it shouldn't be gaslightened with "it ain't that bad" because it only worsens things, instead we should help each other and be there for people, acknowledging the way they think, and being there to help.
@underthesea7133 ай бұрын
I disagree, I think that many many people are just not equipped to be parents and even if they seem “perfect” to the child or to others, they can still inflict massive trauma within the child even if they’re not aware of it, possibly their entire lives. Think about how many adults are walking around who claim they never suffered any trauma, when from an outside perspective it’s clear they did. If anyone has ever been suicidal or homicidal, it stems from trauma. Point blank. I think many don’t realize just how subtle it can be, and yet still be deep enough to cause someone to want to take another person’s life. Not enough is understood by the masses about child psychology, but early childhood affects EVERYTHING about a person’s psyche. Healing is always possible, but for someone to get there in the first place is only ever a result of unresolved trauma. I think it’s actually kind of harmful to suggest otherwise. No one is born evil.

As someone who’s caregiver and older sister to a teen with cerebral palsy, I get how frustrating it is to sacrifice your own well-being and mental health to help look after someone with a developmental disability. Compassion fatigue is real, and at a certain point I just learned to stop asking for help. I have ADHD and I probably would’ve developed anxiety and depression even if I didn’t have my sister around, but all of that certainly didn’t help make things easier. WITH THAT BEING SAID my sister is also one of my best friends. The relationship we have is 1000% worth the mental and physical effort. My priority is to make sure she feels safe and comfortable around me, as a sister, friend, and caregiver. It’s messy, but rewarding, and I can’t even fathom lashing out at her the way Claire murdered her sister. Compassion fatigue be damned. People with disabilities, especially those who are non-verbal or have mobility issues, are SO SO much more likely to be targeted for abuse or violence because they can’t fight back or report their attackers, and it’s a lot more prevalent for society and individual actors to treat them as objects. It’s beyond disgusting.

I understand fatigue and the absolute sacrifice of a caregiver. I am a single mother, My daughter is 22 years old and has CP with spastic quadriplegia. Extremely severe. Non verbal, non ambulatory and needs maximum assistance in life over all. But is straight FIRE! lol she is AWESOME, smart, kind and funny. She is in there whether others want to see it or not!! And I commend anyone who has taken on this role. Bc it 24 hrs. It's hard, and taxing. Plus there's work, there's life, there's the caregivers individual wants and needs. Finding balance is a struggle. But...its about perspective. However if you know how to listen properly, people like Helen and like my daughter, will LITERALLY give you the answers of the universe period. I can't help but get a little triggered by this 14 yr old, privileged kid literally piercing her sister's throat with a knife. Her sister who is better than me. Better than her, better than most human beings. People like Helen are just better than most of us. And if you are exposed to them you should understand that...or leave period. It's not for everyone. But flagrantly not paying attention to what in that person is actually in front if you is a CHOICE Its the worlds biggest secret. They look meek, and to be "nonproductive" members of society to most. Yet, they are composed of complete innocence. They will never lie, they love and give kindness and compassion with out ulterior motive. They are literally what more people SHOULD BE. And to know there is a set of people that would glamorize this absolute waste of a kid...who was actually blessed to have a sister like Helen, makes me livid. Yeah... we all understand as caregivers the absolute exhaustion, the physical hardship on our own bodies. The sacrifice. Sure. This is what true entitlement of a privileged youth looks like. I'm sad her parents did not validate her needs the same way. That happens DAILY in many households. It still doesn't make it even a small bit understandable. I think that as caregivers we have to understand ourselves through the special person in our lives. We are just as chosen with the capabilities to do this job. If we ignore that and sell out to our own stuff with out being grateful daily for our abilities, then we are doing ourselves a disservice in realizing our own potential. But this kid, was not a caregiver, at least it's not reported if she was. We are talking, the lifting, the bathing, feeding, gtube operation, feeding, dressing, care after multiple extreme surgeries, packing wounds, incision care, seizures, medication administration, plus having the energy to show that person a good life. This kid was probably not responsible for any of that. She robbed the world of a teacher. Someone truly made and chosen to be pure, and stayed that way even though adversity that could put down a full grown man. And the people that glorify this killers cowardice, applaud this person for anything at all after Murdering a completely defenseless innocent little girl... are perhaps the most ignorant. They should all be replaced...with an army of worriors, like Helen...

I just want to add to what you said about DID or Schizophrenia starting after severe childhood trauma. This is partially true, but mental illness does not discriminate. Plenty of people who had wonderful childhoods still suffer from mental disorders such as schizophrenia or bipolar.
@ibchillin3 жыл бұрын
DID does actually discriminate - it can only be DID if it's caused by childhood trauma, otherwise it's a different dissociative disorder. schizophrenia isn't caused by trauma tho, that wasn't true
@mariahhkate2 жыл бұрын
@@ibchillin correct! Schizophrenia can be caused by many things. I’ve never even heard it being associated with childhood trauma.
@LangkeeLongkee2 жыл бұрын
While that is true, not all disorders are trauma responses. DID is a trauma response that starts in childhood (cannot be diagnosed until adulthood) while Schizophrenia can be hereditary. DID is exactly what it sounds like, you experience so much trauma that you dissociate to protect yourself and in dissociating so much your brain creates a whole nother person to be there and deal with the garbage that you can't.

Man, I watched this video yesterday and I just couldn't stop thinking about Claire Miller. Like, her tiktok handle is a reference to the anime Mob Psycho 100 (the anime is about people with psychic powers, the Psycho there is a reference to it, not to psychopath ok) and the character in her profile picture is sort of a mentor figure to the protagonist of this anime, who is a teenage boy with strong psychic powers. This boy is super insecure about using his powers cuz once he lost control over them and he doesn't want to harm people again. Anyways, there's a scene where this mentor guy tells him something along the lines of "Your psychic powers are like a knife, you can use a knife to stab someone, or you can use it to prepare a delicious meal. You're the one who decides if you're gonna use it for doing good or bad". It's sad to see that even though Claire was a huge fan of this show, she didn't get its message at all. I get it because I was once 14 and I just watched anime all day without putting any thought on what was the message being conveyed, but like, damn girl, the character you like explicitly said about not using knifes to stab people, come on.

24:55 a slight correction, past trauma (i.e. in early childhood) does *not* cause schizophrenia. Now it might coincidentally be that a child would have the trauma and unrelated schizophrenia (which usually only shows up around puberty regardless). The comorbid trauma mixed with unstable living conditions and untreated, undiagnosed schizophrenia is a recipe for disaster. Trauma *can* play into developing bipolar disorder and Schizoid personality disorder. But the real relationship is unknown beyond that. Schizophrenia is a neurological *and* psychological disorder. While bipolar disorder can manifest as depression/mania (neurological and psychological symptoms) bipolar disorder is itself mostly a psychological illness- NOT implying it’s less real because everything I have mentioned in this comment is very very real of course. Schizoid personality disorder is a personality disorder as per its name; personality disorders are a specific subset of psychological disorder- although personality disorders are… umm how do I say, treatment for a personality disorder is from a very different angle. Personality disorders are more often subacute and unlike the other aforementioned mentioned illnesses here just having a personality disorder doesn’t necessarily require treatment.

As a person that watches a lot of anime, I can say there may be a correlation if the people don't understand the correct meaning behind what the story is touching on. Yes a lot of anime touches on topics about violence and murder but its more about why they are wrong and how psychologically its bad. I think the people just chose to idolize the "bad" people's ideals rather than following the deeper meaning of how and why those people go that far.
@Coffeebaby993 жыл бұрын
Imo a lot of anime is about facing and overcoming bad morals, shounen, magical girl, romance even some in the horror genre are heavily based in rising from the underdog. I feel the trend she sees isn’t the violence that gets inspired it is that a lot of these people are stuck in their head and use anime as an escape in a way. I really haven’t seen the trend she’s talking about, I’ve only seen a few where anime was a part of the perpetrators life. There could also be the romanticization of their own lives where they think their actions are cinematic- could be seen in a handful of criminals who leaned on any type of entertainment media before committing their crimes.
@slsthewriter12993 жыл бұрын
There is definitely something to be said about how those who don't feel like they fit in would gravitate towards entertainment from other cultures, regardless of its content. As someone who has a sibling with cerebral palsy I can understand Claire to SOME extent but killing someone who cannot defend themselves just for the attention of your parents who I assure, must have been trying their best to give both their daughters a good life is messed up. Anyhow, I definitely think there’s better punishments than a death penalty which could be better for Claire and less traumatising for the whole family ! Also hopefully this case doesn’t flare up stigma around the anime community cause we already get a lot of hate 😭

Hey please know that "wheelchair ridden" is a bit of an offensive term due to its hurtful connotations. Most of us prefer to be called "wheelchair users". Also, ableism has a big part in that case. Abled folk have turned her into a victim. I'm a disabled 19-year-old who has a good relationship with my younger siblings so this case hits me hard, but I still feel awful for Claire since she obviously had her own issues. That being said, this idea that Helen somehow got what she deserved and is responsible for her own death is disgusting. Claire committed an awful crime and needs to pay.

Hi- great video! A couple of things about schizophrenia: 1. It definitely could be linked to childhood trauma (DID and Borderline PD have some more evidence here though), but schizophrenia also has some genetic components. We actually know relatively little about "why" schizophrenia happens, and lots of people with schizophrenia do have some childhood trauma, but it's definitely not the cause. 2. I think people use the term "with schizophrenia" and "has schizophrenia", but people with schizophrenia might have a different preference. Schizophrenia is generally quite stigmatized unfortunately, despite most people with schizophrenia having greater chances of hurting themselves vs. hurting someone else.

Reminds me of the Victoria Mendoza case who killed and stabbed her girlfriend 46 times in the face, neck, and chest. Her crazy fangirls believed that Victoria “made a mistake” and are even advocating for her to be freed since she “deserves a second chance.” But how is stabbing someone almost 50 times a mistake?? That’s like saying shooting someone 50 times is a mistake. It’s ridiculous. And to make matters worse Victoria is now having her friends and family promote her music and is using the fame from her crime to help build a music career. I don’t understand how her fans believe that she’s a nice person for doing that. They are probably antisocial losers who don’t have a life and are disconnected from reality. They need to go out and touch some grass for real. Even Victoria’s family is victim blaming saying how it was the victims fault for “messing” with Victoria’s head. If Victoria was truly being abused and treated badly and the family knew about it the whole time then why didn’t they tell Victoria to leave the relationship or something or help her leave? Sounds fishy if you ask me. They never held Victoria accountable in anything that she did in her life and they still don’t. That’s why Victoria thought for those several minutes that it was okay to stab someone. Tbh I wouldn’t be surprised if Vicky’s family supports incest.

premeditated means that she had everything planned out, like purposefully setting up a distraction for her stepdad while she attacked her mom/disposing of the body/getting rid of her bloody clothes and escaping etc. the text messages and emails are obviously out of anger and very spontaneous from isabella - they also aren't really indicative that she had any sort of concrete plan because she was cryptic and just said things like "you will pay blah blah blah". even if you think she deserved to be charged for premeditated murder, what isabella did really does not fit the typical circumstances of a premeditated murder.

PLEASE DON'T do a video about "faking mental illness". i'm not gonna sugarcoat it, i don't think it's suitable for the direction this channel is going in. you've generally done well in covering true crime even if there are a few mistakes here and there, and that's great! but delving into the "faking" of mental illness etc is even more difficult and requires a lot of tact. it's a serious matter, and i don't think hailey is particularly immersed in online mental health and disability communities where a lot of discourse takes place, nor does she know enough about the issues as seen by her errors in explaining schizophrenia as well as in using the term "wheelchair-ridden" instead of the preferred more neutral terms like "wheelchair user". i might seem like i'm nitpicking but i'm not undermining her ability to approach video topics with sensitivity and learn new things... i'm simply concerned because she isn't much of an insider regarding the discourse around "faking" illness which can easily morph into the similarly complicated "self dx" conversation so it's even more complex for her to tackle. look up youtubers and people on insta and twitter who are disabled/mentally ill who are already talking about their lived experiences and their opinions on things (e.g. traits of their condition and some ways that they can present, healthy ways to go forward when you think you have this condition, etc) AND support them (!!) instead of running the risk of spreading misinformation and contributing to sensationalism and negativity.

I agree. I especially worry that she would use specific people as example. Personally, I don't like when diagnosises are speculated on. It's something really personal. Like, a whole lot of people were saying Gabbie Hannah doesn't have ADHD. Does she? Does she not? I honestly don't know. Nor do I care. And I don't feel it's my place to question or relevant to whether she's done bad things. While we all agree Trisha doesn't have DID, it's easy to say someone doesnt have a disability. Especially invisible ones. I've seen people again and again accuse disabled people of faking their disabilities when they are ignorant to what the disability actually intails. Like, don't try to speak for people in the first place. Especially when you haven't done an ounce of research.

@@kmarine8852 it's misinformation to equate a very serious neurological disorder (schizophrenia) with a trauma-related disorder. Trauma doesn't cause Schizophrenia. (Also, schizophrenia has environmental and genetic factors, the way I understand the disorder)
@89visionartistry893 жыл бұрын
@@kmarine8852 Schizophrenia takes the perfect storm of both genetic and environmental factors to develop. It’s not solely caused by one or another. There are so many comments on this video saying childhood trauma is not related to Schizophrenia. Hell there’s a comment a little ways up that is vastly incorrect and labels Schizoaffective as a personality disorder and not actual Schizophrenia. Even indicating treatment is not necessary. I can’t even express how incorrect that comment is but it has hundreds of likes. That’s concerning. I personally have talked to hundreds of people maybe more with Schizophrenia in support groups. I’ve read/listened to several books and obviously have lengthy discussions with my psychiatrist. Saying that Schizophrenia is related to childhood and even early adulthood trauma is not misinformation. It’s important research based information. It doesn’t mean it’s the same as DID or anything else. It’s fine to say it’s from a different class of disorders but saying it’s unrelated to trauma is not okay. If you take siblings I’ll use my own family as an example. There are 4 of us all with the same genetics. Neither of our parents and none of our grandparents have Schizophrenia. The sole difference in my upbringing and theirs is the abuse and environment. I’m far younger so was the only young child(6) when we moved into a new house. I was abused by my neighbor from about 6-9. My parents who used to get along well and my other siblings experienced this during childhood now hated each other. My childhood was littered with the constant fighting that was sometimes physical random disappearances of my mother and the abuse until they divorced. I’m the only sibling with Schizophrenia. My oldest niece only a hair younger than me experienced the same things in childhood. She’s the only other member of my family with it. It’s important to understand the correlation between trauma and onset because of the prodrome phase. There is a significant portion of time where someone could potentially receive treatment and avoid initial psychosis completely. This looks a lot like extreme anxiety and depression so it’s overlooked. If we could identify indicators like trauma for instance combined with genetics we might have the opportunity to know when someone is in prodrome. I cannot express how wonderful it would be to avoid psychosis. Many people with psychosis end up with PTSD if they didn’t already have it because it is extremely traumatic and stressful. You can also be genetically pre disposed to Schizophrenia and never actually develop it. Your environment would make the difference. You can even enter Prodrome and not trigger it. There is usually a final trigger which can be traced back to an extremely traumatic or stressful experience someone has before psychosis. I know what this was for myself and with the help of therapy others can identify it too. It’s essential to healing. I’m not trying to discount anyone who develops Schizophrenia but the dozens of comments indicating there isn’t a link between trauma and Schizophrenia are discrediting so many of us. It’s fine to say DID is a separate disorder from a different class but saying there isn’t a link between trauma and Schizophrenia isn’t necessary. There’s a huge environmental component to actually developing it. I can only say that perhaps having Schizophrenia and being constantly blamed for giving yourself Schizophrenia which so many of us are might make you look at the experiences that lead to it differently. I have to explain the different root causes of Schizophrenia to a new person in a support group at least once a week because they are being blamed by family or friends for basically giving themselves Schizophrenia through their own life choices. The only thing worse than the disease for those of us who did get it is the part where everyone you thought you could count on walks out of your life partly because they blame you for doing this to yourself. As they say there are no flowers at the psych ward.

24:53 Hi! I love ur content but wanted to make a quick distinction. Schizophrenia and some other mental disorders can be genetically passed down, trauma doesn’t CAUSE schizophrenia. Please do a little research on disabilities on victims in your stories before posting. Using vague tv references isn't accurate. Cerebral palsy does not impact the person's ability to think. They are typical neurologicaly, they only sometime struggle with expression. Saying that bc she had cp she had no reason to have issues with her sister, sounds super ignorant. I hope this comment doesn't come off as rude, it's just important to give disabilities accurate information. Many people look at someone with a disabilities and see them as unable or less than.

believe me, anime doesn't induce anyone into murder, at least not normally, i think

seriously though. people like to single out anime as if slasher movies or any violent live action movies don’t exist

the killing stalking manga gives me the murdering inducing vibes tho lol good thing i quit reading it because it started making me so miserable

@@ragamire2940 it made you miserable because that's the point of it, "Killing Stalker" is a phycological triller. No peace of media can make you feel like killing someone, if you are a mentally stable person with no problems with mind to begin with.

Hey Hailey! Just a word of friendly advice for next time u mention disabled people who use wheelchairs! The term wheelchair ridden isn't a term that a lot of us like very much! Just wheelchair user is good! Bc the word ridden makes it sound like the wheelchair is a bad thing that we are confined to, but honestly it gives people so much freedom and life back!

I actually really appreciate you saying this! I’ve always just said “wheelchair ridden” or “wheelchair bound”, I had no idea it wasn’t correct! I won’t use that anymore now that I know. Thank you again
