Why call it The Wonder Years? Just put an original title and triumph like Everybody hates Chris did.

Yep, I think this was a bad decision. It originally sounded like they were senselessly rehashing the original by replacing them with a black family but now that I’ve actually seen the trailer and heard more about it, the similarities are minimal (as they should be) and I’m excited to see this show. I still don’t get what the point of calling it a “reimagination of The Wonder Years” was when they have little to nothing in common and this concept is good in its own right.

In one of the first episodes the narrator states that the “wonder years” is a specific time in a child’s life where to they still believe in the wonders of the world. So if we are following a new child through his “wonder years” then I think the title fits.

The show looks like a serviceable show… But I gotta ask, why do they have to call it Wonder Years? Wonder Years was about Kevin Arnold and the Arnold family… Why saddle it with unreasonable expectations set by its namesake? Why not give it a fair chance to come up with its own identity? Hardly seems fair to those who hold fond memories of the original nor does it seem fair to the folks behind this new show.
@victorrodriguez6608
@victorrodriguez6608 2 жыл бұрын
Because it takes place in the same exact timeframe and it just so happens to have a small connection to the original. They referenced it in the most episode concerning Winnie Cooper’s brother in Vietnam. Aside from that…. it has some of the same creative team that were involved with the original. Most noticeably Fred Savage as the director of this new version. So it’s not a knock off, a remake, or a bastardization of the original show. It’s simply a different take. A different take that some of the original series’ team is on board with.

@@MYCHANNEL-on1cp the truth of the matter is there are many new original ideas out there but unlike years past, hollywood isnt interested in taking a "risk" to create something new. Instead they try to go the "easy" route by rehashing an older previously successful franchise while trying to pander to the market. Funny thing is more often than not, these "safe" franchises end up flopping and only pissed off fans of the original and dont gain a sizable following with the new generation of fans.

Are you equally damming of people that review movies, games, books and art for a living, but clearly are not as talented as those they are passing comment on. I would be as critical if someone had taken the Cosby Show and did the same thing. It is lazy writing and production, more so given that Fred Savage has only found fame as '..that kid from the wonder years!'. It seems also that you are trying create an additional race argument where there is none. Am I not allowed to be critical of work that has black actors? Should I only be critical and judgemental if they were white only? Should only certain people play certain parts or should it be a free for all - that depends on the writer, the setting, the period, whether it adds to the art or becomes a distraction because of the zeitgeist. Oddly, it does seem that your focus in your argument is that I mentioned black actors and not the simple fact that it is lazy production and writing to just swap the actors around. It would never happen! The outcry of racism and everything else that would come with it, it could never happen. But secondly, and maybe more importantly, the shows that I mentioned were perfect the way they were. I loved them and watched them all, same as the original Wonder Years. I can just imagine the funny antics of the lead character taking place in the hood! One episode and you would need a whole new cast!

I was just thinking they should do a remake of some old black movie that black people mainly like. I bet they wouldn’t like boys n the hood or menace to society swapped to an all white cast

@@double0nine73 menace to society and boys n the hood surrounded american ghettos in the 90s, replacing the cast with white people wouldn't be accurate. the wonder years surrounded 60s culture as a whole, having a cast with black people would be accurate.

Bull,, I’m sure there were plenty of white urban gangbangers that wore Raiders caps in the late 80s and early 90s,,I want to see it portrayed on film God dammit

I didn’t know they had a black version of this. It gotta be way better with drive-bys, some gangs, twerking and what not

We need a Freaks and Geeks-style 1990s show or a "That 80s Show". This era has already been done to death.

Watch “Pen1s” it has amazing 90s nostalgia for those born in the late 80s!

I’d love a realistic 90s show. Goldbergs and Schooled are way too cheeky. Pen1s is good but its more on the cheeky side as well. Freaks and Geeks was ahead of its time.

Looks like you got your wish. “That 70s Show” is getting a 90s spinoff with the daughter of Eric and Donna staying with Red and Kitty on summer vacation.

That was trash and unfunny. Like I was suppose to laugh at the try hard attempts at comedy. This was actually good. But not exciting enough for audiences. I can't lie. I wasn't watching every week either. It lacked heart.
