Why call it The Wonder Years? Just put an original title and triumph like Everybody hates Chris did.

Yep, I think this was a bad decision. It originally sounded like they were senselessly rehashing the original by replacing them with a black family but now that I’ve actually seen the trailer and heard more about it, the similarities are minimal (as they should be) and I’m excited to see this show. I still don’t get what the point of calling it a “reimagination of The Wonder Years” was when they have little to nothing in common and this concept is good in its own right.

The show looks like a serviceable show… But I gotta ask, why do they have to call it Wonder Years? Wonder Years was about Kevin Arnold and the Arnold family… Why saddle it with unreasonable expectations set by its namesake? Why not give it a fair chance to come up with its own identity? Hardly seems fair to those who hold fond memories of the original nor does it seem fair to the folks behind this new show.
@victorrodriguez66082 жыл бұрын
Because it takes place in the same exact timeframe and it just so happens to have a small connection to the original. They referenced it in the most episode concerning Winnie Cooper’s brother in Vietnam. Aside from that…. it has some of the same creative team that were involved with the original. Most noticeably Fred Savage as the director of this new version. So it’s not a knock off, a remake, or a bastardization of the original show. It’s simply a different take. First of all, imagine Family Matters, Sandford and Son, Jeffersons, Martin, A Different World, Fresh Prince, The Cosby Show, to name a few, got a reboot and made with an all white cast? It would never happen! The outcry of racism and everything else that would come with it, it could never happen. But secondly, and maybe more importantly, the shows that I mentioned were perfect the way they were. I loved them and watched them all, same as the original Wonder Years. If they tried to remake any of those and flipped races I would be just as upset about it. Quit touching classics, come up with original ideas, or don't make shows.

I'm conflicted. A huge nostalgia is playing part in The Wonder Years, but this isn't it. Although that's not a bad thing I just don't understand why ride on the name? I was really excited for this since I grew up with the original. I could only make it through the first 2 minutes of being inundated with the subtly woke theme of race and racial issues before shutting it down. Does everything have to be a "teachable moment" these days or can we have one show that is just good and fun for a change? Sad times we are living in.

i think it's fairly difficult to write a show based from the 60 and 70s without integrating race or gender issues 🤔 at least brush up on it. sadly its history
@caribbeanbound83573 жыл бұрын
@@aka4god I agree. It should be part of the story when it is relevant. Unfortunately, they inundate you from beginning to end with these messages though. Many shows today are not written for the sake of a good story. They are too often written in order to push a viewpoint or agenda. Maybe start by introducing the characters and get into the show first, then the topics come into the storyline.
@adipsous2 жыл бұрын
@@caribbeanbound8357 You make a decent point, but I think you're exaggerating. It isn't inundating from beginning to end. Plus, obviously a lot of people haven't learned to understand the basics of racial history. People actually live in denial - TODAY, 2022 - that anything ugly ever really happened that they should care about, or even know about. I say tell this story until we aren't so ignorant about ourselves and America's history. Some will feel defensive and hate this and go further into their shells and some will be enlightened to the past and themselves. That's the way things work.
@caribbeanbound83572 жыл бұрын
@@adipsous as I said. I only gave it a few minutes before turning it off. I would have given it a longer chance but so many shows today seem to be inundated with the stuff. I really don't think people are unaware of our history in the United States though. But maybe people are less aware of the more recent events up till beyond the mid 1900's. We definitely need education about some things but at the same time everything in life doesn't have to be so heavy either.
