These series played on one of the kids channels in the 80s here in the UK. I loved them so much my mum got me several of the VHS tapes, which were shortened down versions of each series, but still I rewatched them all the time back then. So warm and nostalgic watching them again all these years later

Here we are together, searching for a dream. When all the time is right beside, closer than it seems. If the sky gets cloudy, the blue all turns to grey then I'll have to tell myself, life could be a dream. Cause it's fun on the other side, no one look ahead. Can't always run and hide, under the bed. Cause it's fun on the other side, that's what I said, follow me, yeah, follow me Here we are together, searching for a dream. The light of day will wash away, a nighttime full of fear. We'll stick together, to see our troubles through. The black of night will fade away, and the sun will shine on you. Cause it's fun on the other side, no one look ahead. Can't always run and hide, under the bed. Cause it's fun on the other

@@jupiterjav9809I watched this program on This TV as well, growing up in a rural area where I could only receive the local stations. Only years later did I realize that this was actually an anime! It turns out that a Canadian company called Cinar got the rights to dub and release it in English, then years later Cinar became Cookie Jar, and Cookie Jar struck a deal with MGM and Weigel Broadcasting (the owners of This TV), giving This TV the rights of a large portion of Cookie Jar’s content.

The Wonderful Wizard of Oz’s HBO run came to an end in mid-1992, when it was replaced by Saban’s animated The Adventures of Pinocchio (q.v.). Running almost simultaneously with the Cinar version was DIC’s The Wizard of Oz, which premiered in 1990 as part of ABC’s Saturday morning schedule.

I had the four VHSs of this as a kid that amalgamated the stories down into a "movie" format. Years later for some reason this started showing on Channel 4 at, like, 6am on weekdays. I remember being really surprised to find this in episodes and wanted to watch them all. Then annoyingly they just stopped showing them. I hope they do a not-insanely-expensive run of these on DVD. It seems hard to pick it up.

Was this cartoon series loosely based on "Return To Oz"? For example, this cartoon talks about Mombi, Princess Ozma, and the Nome King.

I don't think so since none of them were featured in this cartoon, only the witch from the original Wizard of Oz. Or from at least what I could remember.

Actually yes and no, this series covered all 4 of the Oz books in each of it's 4 seasons (52 episodes total). I remember I owned a VHS movie version of its second season which dealt with Mombi and Princess Ozma that I used to watch a lot as a kid and was how I remember this show.

Yeah the really weird thing about the opening is that they tried to pass the entire show off as a Canadian creation rather than Japanese- all the names you see in the credits are for the cg opening. None of those names actually did any of the animation in the show.
