Knife in English is very reminiscent of the Danish / Swedish "kniv". The pronunciation has changed from the literal, but in the spelling you see the connection. Knife is an older word than fork, which is "fourchette" in French. The English kept the older knife from the Scandinavian but added the word fourchette/fork from French.

rucksack The British / English word rucksack certainly comes from Scandinavian. In Danish "rygsæk" and Swedish "ryggsäck". "ryg" and "rygg" mean back. Sack is the same as in English.

There is other Swedish words, like Ombudsman and Smorgasboard, that slips in to other langues. In anyway, English, kind a Angles and Saxons are north german and south dane tribes, there languge is Anglish, a for runner to English. It mixed up whit old Brittons and make Latin obsolite. It was those Danes that inhabited Normandy and later concured England that fucked everyting up, by introduce french spelling.
