This was so much fun! Thank you very much for doing this, and in so detailed fashion! I was so happy to see that you noticed all of the details, especially a lot of the obscure ones, and that you enjoyed the illustration so much. ❤ Serbia: Jelen is a popular beer brand there, so just to have a little more colourful variety in the Balkans, I just filled the country with them. As for Bangladesh: I actually forgot to illustrate it, and I honestly didn't realize it until you pointed it out. Complete brainfart there by me haha. xD

39:50 "Jelen" means deer and there's also a drawing of a deer below but not sure what is the Geoguessr meta significance here.
@aleksandarpavlovski-uz6zf3 ай бұрын
Jelen indeed means deer in Serbian, but it refers to a beer brand which is quite distinctive to a town named Apatin (where the brewery is) but it's the largest beer brand in Serbia so you can see it all around the country. It's also a great tip for the Balkans where you can see different beer brands on bilbords. For example in Serbia beside Jelen there's Zaječarsko, for Croatia there's Ožujsko, Karlovačko, in Montenegro Nikšićko, and North Macedonia Skopsko. I guess it's hard to memorize if you're not from Balkans, but we sure do know all the beers in the region 😂😂

A couple things I noticed: the two Alto signs are actually both in Panama, showing the font change when you're west vs east of the canal. And the US speed limit sign, in addition to being different from Canada's "Maximum", is specifically 80MPH which is a really high speed that you typically only see on a few highways, like the I-15 in Utah. Oh and Ghana tape is correctly front-right (I think you were thinking of Reunion!)

The Canadian Shield is the remnants of a huge mountain range that was decapitated by retreating glaciers. Absolutely beautiful, and makes for incredible outdoor adventures. There's a reason we call it cottage country, it's perfect for camping and other outdoor sports. Personal favourites are canoeing, hiking, and snowshoeing. It's difficult to build infrastructure because all the soft rock was scraped off by the ice sheets and left exposed the hard underlying rock. Driving the highways where they had to blast through the rock is an interesting combination of appreciation and intimidating.

The swiss speed signs do not have the town name on them. It says "Generell" which means "general" it is most often used in towns and cities to mark the 50 kph speed limit. Basically when you are in a Town the speed is 50 in general unless there is for example a 30 kph zone. And because everyone knows that the limit is generally 50 there is no need for a speed restriction sign after every intersection for example.

Personally I wouldn't call most of these things metas. For me metas are things like the the google car, roof rack, camera generation, etc. Something that is entirely the result of how the locations happened to be photographed and has nothing to do with what the place would actually look like if you were physically there. Maybe I'm misremembering but I think a few years ago (when geoguessr streamers started getting moderately popular on twitch) that was the common definition, but it's widened since then.

Okay so I looked this one up, I had a feeling one was an older design and the other was a new design: www.transport.nsw.gov.au/operations/roads-and-waterways/traffic-signs?f%5B0%5D=road_traffic_sign_type%3A2061 The one with the bus inside the yellow circle is old and retired and the B is the newer design, so if you see the old sign in newer coverage, you know you are somewhere that the NSW "government" has neglected due to being poorer or having racial minorities etc. (I definitely remember seeing them in real life just a year or so ago in the western suburbs)
