I’m not sure if this is an INFJ trait but calm my anxiety by controlling my physical environment. I love to listen to books and reorganize, declutter, make labels etc. During quarantine I discovered the joy of puttying and sanding the trim on my walls. Conquering the gaps where the two meet while making everything as smooth as possible. I just feel this urge or drive to always change and improve things. It drives my family crazy...I have actually removed kitchen cupboards during anxiety episodes because they attracted clutter.😬

I was doing that too. Puttying, sanding, and painting. 😅 I wasn't working, so I figured I'd just work on increasing the value of my home.

Thanks for sharing your viewpoint. I am an INFJ and I was home for almost 3 months. I was thriving! I was so productive, creative, joyful, hopeful, and finally felt like my best self. I have been back to work for 6 weeks working overtime and back to commuting 3 hours a day and I have physically and mentally broken down. I can’t believe I used to work like this! I need to change my job so I work from home.

The only anxiety I get in this is that I'm not being productive. I can't binge watch because I feel like I'm wasting my time (not to say I won't watch a movie to relax, but it's on my terms once I feel satisfied with what I accomplished). First of course, I need to prep myself mentally to achieve these goals because I'll give it my all, though I have to be careful because I'll get frustrated with myself that I haven't done enough.
@ClayArnall

i feel the same way to be honest. I can't really relax until I've accomplished something for the day. I'm not sure if that's a good thing or a bad thing sometimes.

@@ClayArnall Thank you Clay for this insightful video! I am also guilty of being obsessed with productivity so much so that it took a toll on my health. But, I guess, a wonderful thing about us INFJs is that we cannot stay bogged down by problems for long. We get up and start working towards a solution. On my quest for understanding the meaning of life; I discovered the wisdom of Taoism. In the pages of Taoist master Lao Tsu's The Way of Life, I got an antidote for my restlessness and obsession with productivity. I learnt that in order to experience life in all its fullness, we got to learn to strike a balance between 'Doing' and 'Being'-a state of gratitude with no hankering after any action-physical and mental alike. This wisdom just blew my mind. I must say, I am more peaceful INFJ when I balance my life between 'Doing' and 'Being'. Thanks again, Clay!

I work for a hospital we don’t have the luxury to avoid and live in denial. I also have worked from home for 7 years, not much have changed, except I’m now on a list to be forced to work within the hospital if staff become sick and non clinical help is needed...I organize lectures for physicians, they are all webinars now, so many more can attend, and as an introvert it’s perfect for me, it’s just be, the physician speaker, and the broadcast IT help....this is working for me

I honestly would love to work from home now for the rest of my life. I have worked in a office settings for 5 years and its fine. But I feel I am naturally more focused and less distracted at home. Less people stopping by to chat etc. I have UNLIMITED snacks and coffee at my disposal haha...! So its basically my goal from here on out to make working from home permanently a reality.

Dear Clay, thank you for an amazing video. Your observations was spot on. Really enjoyed the references you made. Yes and being an INFJ, being at home doesn’t feel as if we went into insolation , it’s just more of the same ☺️. However the extroverted people in my life have followed your model so perfectly I couldn’t help but have a bit of an laugh. The sad reality we’re facing is how will people find their place in all of this when we eventually begin from scratch 😢. Have an amazing day as spring starts in Canada.

Thank you for this video. I was thinking about how education and work could easily take place at home a few days ago. So I video called a few people to have a conversation. I could clearly see the categories/types of responses (amplified) you identify in your video. However, prior to watching this I ended up worrying I was overthinking! Then I started thinking about possibly changing my career as it seems the structure of current tradition can now be questioned, which can lead to change. I was happy to hear what you were saying, I really appreciate your videos :)

Fear amplifies emotional reactivity. Excitement/stimulation intensifies swings from positive to negative emotional states. "Control freaks" have triggers. Strangely, there is a person in my life who has historically been a control freak... he is not freaking out. Instead, he is actually a little behind the curve on social distancing and carrying on as per usual while the rest of us bunker and hunker down... human behavior is subject to principles of behavior and boy is it interesting how that manifests in each individual.

I totally agree with you: with online education taking off, there is a huge opportunity for top schools/universities to work closely with tech companies on providing optimized online education programs, making it way more accessible AND affordable for the masses AROUND THE WORLD! As you mentioned, the best professors can lecture thousands (or millions) of people remotely, providing best education there is. Yes, many people will lose traditional jobs but new jobs will arise that will be better aligned with new technologies and innovations. Technology will optimize processes that will allow people to work less hours and spend more time on things they actually enjoy. I think universal income is imminent and would be the right thing to do as humans take advantage of "exploiting" technology for most menial jobs. As more and more people start working from home, all those numerous office buildings will become obsolete and will be turned into affordable housing, public spaces and parks for people to enjoy. In every new residential home construction, home offices will become as essential as bedrooms and bathrooms - ideally one per each person living in the household and will be automatically supplied with internet and computers as a standard appliance. Voting will be done electronically (given there is strong security in place) that will help put an end to voter suppression. So many interesting possibilities! Thanks for your videos. I am a fellow INFJ from NYC.

Heeey, that's my thoughts 😄 Thanks for sharing 🙏 It's a lot calmer now than it was, at least here in Sweden, but still a bit amplified. It's kind of strange for me. I do see the negative aspects, and sadly there is a lot of them. Both the virus, the measures taken and peoples strategies to cope is causing a lot of harm. And I feel a lot for everyone who is suffering. And still, this situation makes me incredible calm. It's like the point of no return is here, and the chance for a bright future is bigger than ever before. I hope we are smart enough to use it wisely 🙌

I have been more aware of people’s coping mechanisms when it comes to losing their social atmospheres, being quarantined, sickness, death, government mandates, and financial difficulties. I’m really taking notice of reactions for some weird reason. I have also noticed a lot of judgmental people on my social media and in my family. There are So many people that aren’t occupied with their “normal” activities, and they are criticizing others for what they are , or are not doing right. Most people aren’t nice about expressing this (in my opinion). As far as business opportunities. I have come up with a few to hopefully sustain me in the next set of unfortunate events. There are definitely different ways to view it all. Thanks for this! It was interesting. Stay safe over there.

I reeeeeaaaallllyyy really really REALLY hope society will realize that a lot can be done from home, especially education, but also certain parts of a lot of jobs. For a while I've actually struggled with this, because with my aspergers and fibromyalgia I get drained (pain increases when I'm mentally exhausted) in no fucking time when having to be around hundreds of people at a school, I've struggled with it since forever.. I've had a few online classes and I could sit all day and study, but at school I can barely show up two days in a row because of how mentally exhausted I get. After way too many years of struggling I finally got to university, but it's not fucking working for me for several reasons, a lot of it having to do with all those people. I then searched and found several online universities in the UK (you can study from anywhere in the world), and I was so damn thrilled. But again, several reasons why I might not be able to apply there.. I can't find a university degree in Denmark, where I live, that is online.. When I talk with people about it EVERYONE throws the "oh but if you study at home, how are you gonna learn to cooperate with a group of people? What about when you get a job, then you're gonna be around people?" and I'm like, seriously...??? I'm (almost) 28 years old, I've been studying normally, in class, for most of my life, if I haven't learned how to work with other people at this point by attending class I'll make the bold assumption that it's a fucking scam lmao. And y'all think I'll reset back into prehistoric caveman socially from studying at home..?? Or what's the logic here? And when I get a job, what's the probability I'm gonna be working in a setting where my coworker situation resembles a classroom in a big ass school..??? Ironically the jobs I've had so far was me alone, no colleagues.. It's possible. But is the problem that it makes me a bad person, or what is it I don't get..?? People act brainwashed when they go off with those arguments, they almost panic and it truly scares me to see their reaction. It's like I just told them I'll start a cult or something lol. And like it's going to hurt them..?? Why? I want to learn. Not waste my time and precious, limited energy around hundreds of people daily because society for some reason think I'll fall apart molecule by molecule if I don't.. I've tried for almost 3 decades. It doesn't work. That's just how it goddamn is. Y'all want me to be useful for society or not? Why am I ruining other people's future by studying in my living room? Am I taking away other people's option of being in a classroom? Also, imagine if I maybe would be able to function better in a future work environment with some human interaction (which obviously I'll still have until then for Christ sake) when I HAVE the knowledge I need, and ain't in a situation where everything I deal with is new knowledge that takes a lot of concentration and brain capacity to learn.. Not all of us need people around us all the time, some of us need a whole lot less people around us to be able to get some sort of close to reach our potential. I hope the social people won't get so traumatized by this quarantine that it'll have the exact opposite effect.. I hope it'll open more possibilities of less human interaction for those who prefer that. Also, maybe especially, regarding kids. A lot of children would benefit greatly from different learning environments than what is currently the norm (smaller classes, different structure, less socializing time for some). This is really something I hope we finally stop ignoring. Okay that was my rant. Over and out.

Although it is now 2 months later, I just wanted to tell you that I really appreciated this video. So reasonable and objective at a time when, like you discussed, everything seemed (and still does in a lot of ways) SO amplified. It's definitely been a time of bringing out all the mini dictators and an uncomfortable time in a lot of ways, but also an interesting experiment (forced experiment, but interesting nonetheless). It definitely opens up new doors and opportunities that I think can ultimately lead to more flexibility. I always enjoy your videos and the sense of calm you portray. I am also an INFJ and used to be told that I have a calming presence. Now with two small kids I'm afraid that has been buried, but you are a good reminder that I still have that within me.

I do agree with your observation of amplification. But I also believe the actual crisis pushes people to these re-actions, because every one of us is confronted with the idea of our own possible death. So people run from it by either blaming others, by constantly distracting themselves through divers modes of addictions or abondanning themselves to psychosis, depression driven by anxiety. And then we have these few (of us.?) who say: Due to the actual situation, because death might be near, because the future shall and should be at best never again, what it was before, we will "treasure" this very moment to search progress, change and simplify the society, sothat it may become more human and function better and to concentrate now on how we might be able to (inter-) act more responsable towards eachother and the planet as such.

Me, watching Netflix for 10 hours every day even though I have papers to write and deadlines to meet: "It's called *the freeze response* bro" // I agree with you regarding education, though! My life as an undiagnosed autistic person would've been *a lot* easier if I could study from home. However, a big part of learning is the *dialectic,* and as much as I hate being forced to show up, the opportunity to have flexible discussions with professors and peers is vital, in my opinion, if we want people to be well-educated in a critical way, where they not only remember, but truly understand both the subjects and the underlying skills. I see this contrast very clearly in people who are "self-taught philosophers" versus people who have studied philosophy in university; the way they think about their subject of study differs. The self-taught philosophers read philosophies, recite philosophies, and perhaps think about what they have read. Philosophy postgrads *DO* philosophy -- it is a skill and an activity, after all, a tool for thinking. As much as I want home-based education, I also want real competence, which includes "live feedback", and I'm not sure if that can be done from home.

Another things I've noticed is that the news is not focused at all on China and how reckless the Chinese government has been with holding back information about COVID and saying that they've contained it when obviously they didn't. Not trying to play the blame game, but it almost seems that the media is favoring China by not debunking or exposing them.

Little (not so little after all) note about the education bit: I agree that there certainly will be some changes or aspects we might reconsider, including the decoppling of socializing and education. But I do think that this might bring some serious losses, as I observe (I am student) that many many people need indicidual help and support,, be it from classmates or teachers. Putting one master brain in front of a camera might be time efficient but probably not quality efficient. Yeah, and besides all the educational part, I think we would loose sooo much (personally, culturally, socially) by putting education exclusively at home. Disclaimer: I know Clay did not say that. Those are just my thoughts of the subject as it came up in the video. I am veey interested in the subhect because I am student myself and maybe plan on becoming a teacher someday. And I am always interested in potential outcomes and stuff like that, especially about people's attitudes towards issues. (Also, english isn't my motherthongue, but I hope I did not do too many mistakes. If I did you're welcome to point them out, as I always try to improve)

Additionally, I think everything also depends on the level of school, like what grade one is. The older the more efficient would it be to use more technology. But for younger kids it might be more efficient if they combine socializing with education, as they don't understand the value if education yet without it being somehow fun and entertaining.
