Hey hey!! OG Argentinian Regnum player here!! From way back into '07-'08! First of all, the three kingdoms offer different starting points and races, although the classes are the same. Reach class can evolve into one of two specializations. Each kingdom has 2 zones: a training, and a quest. Then there's a common middle zone that is a war zone. Any of those strongholds can be captured for points and xp. It used to be an absolute epic war up there. I was one of the very few supports of my kingdom so they protected me more than their lives ('cause I actually could revive, heal and give mana). I have fond memories of that game. Oh, and it wasn't that buggy. And fun fact: one of the guys who worked on that game also worked on the GODOT engine :)

The objective was simple but very interesting. There were 6 gems in total, 2 inside each kingdom. The realms were protected by long, tall walls. Outside the walls, in the War Zone, each realm had 3 strongholds. One realm could only invade another if they managed to capture the 3 rival strongholds at the same time and defend them for 10 minutes. After that, the target realm entered an “unprotected status” and could be invaded to steal their gems. When a realm collected the 6 gems, it would open a door into a dragon lair that granted 1 wish for the entire kingdom. The players inside the lair could vote for the wish: the actual ones are exp boost, gold boost, more loot rate. (The boost lasts 1 week). After that, the gems would reset and the cycle would begin again. It was very fun at that time, one of the best PvP experiences for me. It was evolving really nicely, with graphics and map updates, but it was ruined by bad decisions, lack of updates, and a ton of P2W stuff.

The childlike you felt uncomfortable is a genuine old (and well liked overall) artstyle in many mediums (anime, manga, figurines, etc). It's called Chibi. As someone familiar with Ryzom (it was the first MMO I played, and I made it to the "free trial" level cap of 125), I find the positivity here absolutely hilarious. I played before the extra tutorial was added on top of the existing tutorial, so I'm a bit surprised it didn't even tell you that you have to equip your melee weapon (dagger) to perform at all in melee combat. But moreover, the only lore to be found is in a wiki, and the only quests in the game are in the tutorial area (which you never actually left; it takes several hours to finish the tutorial area). The mainland is just grinding: you can grind storyless missions for money or reputation, and you can grind fights for XP. I think if you actually did a deep dive into it, you'd be disappointed.

I played Regnum online from 2007 through the transition to Champions of Regnum right up to the closure of the last English server. I would say they were accurate in their description at least up till 2010. The original game was like a scaled down DAoC with superior skills and at least on the English speaking server the realm was filled 24/7 so PVP was non stop anytime you wanted to log in. Sadly they lost the original creator around 2010 and the guy who replaced him drove the game into the ground. Starting in 2010 he completely changed the combat system and lost 50% of the playerbase then a couple years later released Champions of Regnum (most referred to as Champions of Rectum) losing around 50% of those remaining and it got even worse. All you had to do to illustrate his incompetence was realize there were 7 or 8 servers around the world when he took over and they quickly dwindled to only 2 then only 1 left in South America. I will always miss that game as I've never found a game with such fun PVP since (the original not the mess it was at the end).

I searched the internet for mmos and non of them worked on my pc or cost a subscription I wasnt willing to pay. All except Regnum which was all the game was called at the time, 'Champions of' came later at some point I dunno, I never stuck around that long. Long intro to a short story; when I first logged onto regnum the whole concept was so new to me that I just sat there ontop of this starting zone icehill trying ot read all the help guide. There was this dude standing there. Another player like me, the first online real person I had ever laid eyes on in an mmorpg. He turns to me and says 'hi. are you lost?' and I said 'Hi. Ya kinda I guess. I've never done this before' So he says 'I'll show you where to go for 1 gold'. I look in my inventory and sure enough the game had started me with 1 gold. I give it to him thinking this must be some normal sort of transaction in these mmorpg things. He takes it and says 'follow me'. I follow him and we run for 25 sec...to the next hill where there was an npc. 'You go here. Good luck' It took me 5 min to get ripped off in my 1st mmorpg ;p

Never heard of Islet, but I'm surprised you didn't mention Trove at all, which leads me to believe you might not be aware of it. It's certainly got various differences than islet, but in terms of a "Minecraft MMO" it's the one I always think of, and unless things have changed since I last looked into it, there's still quite a few people playing. I'll always be happy to bring Trove up because early on you could actually create and submit voxel items/styles and submit them and one of the permanent hairstyles in the game is one I made.

Regnum reminds me of ragnarok online. The clicking to move, to attack enemies, using the rest emote to recover mp faster. Very RO vibes there

I've been looking for a different kind of mmo to sink my teeth in that isn't mainstream (because i don't like them) and i think that Islet Online is just something i might enjoy since it reminds me of Wakfu. Thank you for showcasing it. 🙏

I might try that last one out myself, I been wanting something like that in my life. Graphics could be better but that doesn’t bother me is the game play is good.

At least give the game a shot, its strangely addicting and really hit a lot of those feel good mmo receptors that i didnt assume it would just judging the game by its cover

I played quite a lot of Ryzom when I was younger.

One thing you should know about Ryzom. Majority of its player base are either French or German, that might be why the other player u met at the tutorial area didnt respond. Also Ryzoms largest Guilds/Clans are French and German clans, and they wont allow u to join unless u can speak their language.

You should look into a game called Gods of Zushin, it used to be called Zu Online and there is a single guy running a server and finishing the translation from the Chinese version. The game came out around the expac of Cataclysm for WOW. I use to play this game all the time, but since it disappeared because of translation and marketing issues, I had to find other games to play. I miss the game and I've never met anyone who's known about it before.

Rysum was great back in the day but remember doing alot of online research before you tube to understand what I was doing.

Yeah, I remember it as the good alternate mmo at the time, but it was too much to get into.

Ryzom's a complex game. Almost as complex as EVE online in some respects but after playing both of those MMOs for well over 15 years they seem so simple now haha.

Indeed, I have not.even heard of any of these. Though Islet Online's game play does sound an awful lot like Palia & Stardew Valley.

One of my Favorite MMORPG's, probably 15 years ago now, was Atlantica Online, I LOVED the Turn-Based Combat in it and NEVER found another game that did it like that, sadly it got bought out and the Dev after did not care and made it super P2W.

I still remember playing an MMO that sadly died many years ago called Earth Eternal, which was pretty fun during my brief time with it.

Well, maaaaybe all those mmorpgs, but i am fairly certain most have on their minds Lineage 2 too. It is a popular game too, you know. :)

I'm playing Rogalia on Steam. After these servers died a few years ago the game revived in Free-to-play form. Nothing much to look at but it has some unique mechanics that I like.

Gun of Icarus. It's a very cool and underrated airship 3D combat game. I played it recently and there were like 5 people online, which is a shame.

I play Champions of Regnum. You did a good video, but the problem is that the game require leveling to get to the part of real RvR fighting. You should be at least level 45 to be of some use there. Max level is 60. Also, at level 11 you get 2 more clases. For the mages, there are warlocks and conjurer. The game have times with more or less gamers online.

Ryzom does get much better. I played it about 12 years ago. It was old then. There are dedicated players and if you can get with a group of them you will have fun. You will feel alone a lot until you get to the maps where most players hang out. Also you will find players that run 5 or more accounts at once using macros. I though I was playing with a much larger group in the beginning until I found out 5 of the players where one person. It was impressive to see them all play as if they were different people. I loved the game but moved on to Guild Wars 2.
