The San people are definitely the most marginalised group in my country. Because their source of food was from the wilderness, their lifestyle was affected when national parks and such were erected causing animals and plants to become protected by law. They can't roam as freely as they used to, but they struggle to adjust to the modern lifestyle too: case in point moving back to the bush despite being given land on which to farm and having been built houses by the state. Anyway, thank you for the video and genuine interest in learning about Africa and her people. God bless you Wode Maya 🙏❤

Coloured refers to people of mixed race. All sorts of South African cultures (Xhosa, Tswana, etc) have hunter-gatherer ancestry. Many Coloureds also don't, while some do. And no it isn't 80%, that's just factually not true. Coloured is not an ethnic group. It's a diverse generally-Afrikaans speaking *culture* that's ethnically and racially different one person/family to the next. e.g. People who are South Asian are in the category, people who are of Caucasian descent mixed with Asian are in the category, Asian with African, and many Afrikaans-speaking Africans who were classified as Coloured with the population registration act. Also khoe-san is in fact a linguistic abstraction not a concrete tribe and, given the above, clearly saying Coloureds are khwe pastoralists is simply ahistorical and borders on appropriation given the broad origin of Coloureds. The scientific genetic profile of Coloureds shows that it's main ethnic components are a Xhosa population, a Dutch East Indies population, a South Asian population and a Caucasian population. There are other components but these are in fact the largest. The Xhosa population is also where the majority of ancient hunter-gatherer ancestral markers come from. (what some people rather erroneously mean when they use the abstraction "khoisan", the other hunter-gatherer component would come from "bushmen", particularly in the Northern Cape, who have also largely been amalgamated into other groups.) Here is the reference to the Coloured genetic profile: DOI: 10.1093-hmg-ddp505

I must confess. I strayed from this channel a bit to experience other African KZbinrs. But now you have raised the bar again with the exploration of little known tribes in remote parts of Africa. I must make special mention of your guide in this video. She is an educated upper class woman but still down to earth without any frills. Please do more work with her.

Most underrated travel/world related channel around. You are bringing African culture to the digital media generation, shattering the outdated image that imperialist media such as Hollywood cinema and Western news outlets seared into the minds of the less educated by showing the rich depth and diversity of the continent all the while being funny, charismatic and engaging. Priceless content. Engaging info, stellar presentation. You need running up to a million subs and beyond bro

Most KhoeKhoe and San (= Khoisan) people have assimilated into the Bantu and Coloured populations of Southern Africa. For example: the Xhosa people and the Tswana are actually mixed Bantu-KhoiSan. Look up Griqua. Coloureds of Western Cape and Northern Cape are predominantly of KhoiSan ancestry, but mixed with Malay, European and Bantu.
@esahm373
@esahm373 3 жыл бұрын
@Mandume Ndemfayo I'm well aware. That doesn't change the fact: most historical Khoisan communities that existed have assimilated into Coloured and Black populations of Southern Africa. When people think of Khoisan, they often think of these very few communities of "pure" Khoisan that remain today, but easily forget that the majority of Khoisan ancestry that exists today has passed into the Coloured and Black population groups. Black people of Southern Africa are genetically a mix of mainly Bantu and a substantial portion of Khoisan ancestry (5 to 30% on average). It's funny that many Southern African Blacks are ignorant about their own partial Khoisan heritage. There is a reason why for example Tswana people and Xhosa people look distinctively more Khoisan than let's say Congolese Bantus. Black people in Southern Africa have to realize that they are actually a Mixed Race of Bantu and Khoisan.

@@naame-owoyeya-malapi2454 I referred to "Southern Africa", which actually includes South Africa. The history of the Khoisan and the Bantu peoples is not only relevant in regards to South Africa, but it has implications for the whole Southern African region. I don't understand your confusion!

@esahm373 3 жыл бұрын
@@naame-owoyeya-malapi2454 Of course it's true for other countries in the Southern African region. Namibia for example has various Coloured and Black groups of partial Khoisan descent. Same is true for the Tswana and Sotho peoples of Botswana, who are Bantu-Khoisan hybrids (which is very obvious when you look at them). They actually assimilated fleeing Khoisan during the Mfecane period. Do you actually have anything to add to the discussion or do you just want to play semantics?
