Everyone keeps calling this a prayer, and although it sounded like one at first, it became more like a eulogy than a prayer. A eulogy is honoring someone, especially the deceased, but prayer is speaking to God, or asking the saints to intercede for us. We don't assume that the deceased are already in heaven, that's why we pray for the repose of their souls. He never mentioned Jesus, and saying we kneel only to God is a good proclamation, but it's not a prayer. Also, as Catholics we make the Sign of the Cross before and after our prayers.

Heavenly Father, Our prayers is to guide and protect our President of the USA , with wisdom , fortitude and grace, in good health that he may carry out the duties and obligations in our country. His parents weren't Catholic Christians (his mom was at least raised Presbyterian), Fr. Mann did not know them personally, and the Church never investigated their lives to declare whether or not they're canonized saints (publicly recognized as being in Heaven). Why did he attempt to ask Trump's parents to pray for him? He can just regularly offer up Holy Masses for him. Why did Fr. Mann go out of his way to clean their graves specifically? To elicit an audience/chat with Trump? I find this strange.

The Catholic Church is not limited to the broadcast/example of a single priest/bishop. There are countless examples of other priests & bishops mentioning Jesus Christ & praying the Sign of Cross, be it publicly in mixed religious settings, publicly at Holy Mass or privately. There are tons of public processions throughout the Church calendar, every single year, in which those two are mentioned. There's no reason to make your individual perception of the cowardice of all priests/bishops (what about the deacons?) doubt that it's a true church.

@@isaiah3872 Too bad Bishop Strickland didn't give the prayer and Benediction, he isn't afraid to mention the name of Jesus and make the Sign of the Cross!
@Marcia-fw3wz3 сағат бұрын
This started as a prayer, but it turned into more of a eulogy in honor of President Trump's parents. Father didn't start and end with the Sign of the Cross, or mention the name of Jesus. And in the interview with Raymond he used God's name inappropriately. From the way he talked and the stole he wore, I wondered if he was really a Catholic priest, or from a denomination that tries to imitate Catholicism.
@johnfisher2473 күн бұрын
It was not a prayer to God but as so happens in America an infomercial addressed to hearers. It is normal to address prayers that are short to God. The Our Father would have sufficed. I've lived in the US and found prayer to have degenerated into a list of information meant for the hearers. This hair dyed over confident priest really did blather. I support Trump but find this type of sycophantic address disguised as prayer annoying and trivial.

@isaiah38722 күн бұрын
What does Trump's rebuke of that Episcopal bishop have to do with the Catholic Church and its "weakness"?
@Marcia-fw3wz2 күн бұрын
"Bishop" Marianne's idea of mercy is worldly, not Christian. Admonishing sinners is a true work of mercy, not justifying their sinful behavior. The Catholic Church's primary purpose is the salvation of souls, not escorting them to the fires of eternal perdition.
